The search uses proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of $13~\\mathrm{TeV}$ collected by the CMS detector at LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $138~\\mathrm{fb^{\u22121}}$. Signal hypotheses with a light intermediate boson may result in highly collimated decay products. Boosted electron pairs reconstructed into a single merged object ($e_{\\mathrm{ME}}$) are distinguished using a novel electron identification technique. A collimated muon pair may fail to reconstruct one of the tracks, resulting in a merged muon object ($\\mu_{\\mathrm{MM}}$). In this case, the missing muon momentum is obtained from the missing transverse energy ($p_{\\mathrm{T}}^{\\mathrm{miss}}$). No significant excess is observed. Model-independent upper limits on the product of cross section and branching fraction to four-leptons are set with $\\mathrm{X}\\rightarrow\\mathrm{YY}\\rightarrow\\!4\\ell$ and $\\mathrm{X}\\rightarrow\\mathrm{ZY}\\rightarrow\\!4\\ell$ channels for $M_X$ from $250~\\mathrm{GeV}$ to $2~\\mathrm{TeV}$ and $M_Y$ greater than $0.4~\\mathrm{GeV}$ at 95% confidence level.\nThere are total 9 signal regions---three resolved channels ($4\\mathrm{e}$, $2\\mathrm{e}2\\mu$, $4\\mu$), three merged channels without $\\mu_{\\mathrm{MM}}$ ($2\\mathrm{e}\\mathrm{e}_{\\mathrm{ME}}$, $2\\mu\\mathrm{e}_{\\mathrm{ME}}$, $2\\mathrm{e}_{\\mathrm{ME}}$), and three merged channels with $\\mu_{\\mathrm{MM}}$ ($2\\mathrm{e}\\mu\\mu_{\\mathrm{MM}}$, $3\\mu\\mu_{\\mathrm{MM}}$, $e_{\\mathrm{ME}}\\mu\\mu_{\\mathrm{MM}}$). 7 signal regions (all except $2\\mathrm{e}\\mathrm{e}_{\\mathrm{ME}}$ and $2\\mathrm{e}\\mu\\mu_{\\mathrm{MM}}$) probe $\\mathrm{X}\\rightarrow\\mathrm{YY}\\rightarrow\\!4\\ell$ hypothesis. The other 7 signal regions (all except $2\\mathrm{e}_{\\mathrm{ME}}$ and $e_{\\mathrm{ME}}\\mu\\mu_{\\mathrm{MM}}$) probe $\\mathrm{X}\\rightarrow\\mathrm{ZY}\\rightarrow\\!4\\ell$ hypothesis.
