Elastic Scattering of 240-330 MeV π- Mesons by Hydrogen

Sov.Phys.JETP 11 (1960) 794, 1960.

Abstract (data abstract)
THE FOLLOWING COMMENTS ARE TAKEN FROM THE PI N COMPILATION OF R.L. KELLY. THEY ARE THAT COMPILATION'S COMPLETE SET OF COMMENTS FOR PAPERS RELATED TO THE SAME EXPERIMENT (DESIGNATED ZINOV58) AS THE CURRENT PAPER. (THE IDENTIFIER PRECEDING THE REFERENCE AND COMMENT FOR EACH PAPER IS FOR CROSS-REFERENCING WITHIN THESE COMMENTS ONLY AND DOES NOT NECESSARILY AGREE WITH THE SHORT CODE USED ELSEWHERE IN THE PRESENT COMPILATION.) /// ZINOV60A [V. G. ZINOV,SOVIET PHYSICS JETP 11,794(1960)] -- PI- P DCS AT 353,385,424,AND 451 MEV/C. DONE AT JINR WITH SCINTILLATION COUNTER TELESCOPE DETECTOR. PART OF THE INDIVIDUAL ERRORS AT EACH ENERGY CORRESPONDS TO AN OVERALL NE ESTIMATED AT 3.5 PCT AND HAS BEEN FOLDED OUT. THE ME'S FOR THE 2 HIGHER MOMENTA ARE GIVEN IN ZINOV58A AND ZINOV58B,AND WERE ASSUMED THE SAME FOR THE 2 LOWER MOMENTA. /// ZINOV60B [V. G. ZINOV,SOVIET PHYSICS JETP 11,1010(1960)] -- PI- P CEX DCS DATA AT 353,385,424,AND 451 MEV/C TAKEN AT JINR WITH APPARATUS VERY SIMILAR TO ZINOV60A. SINGLE GAMMA PRODUCTION CROSS SECTIONS (GDCS) AND CEX DCS LEGENDRE COEFFICIENTS (LC) WITH DIAGONAL ERRORS ONLY ARE GIVEN. THE FRACTIONAL ERRORS OF THE GDCS ARE ROUGHLY CONSTANT IN ANGLE,AND THE ANGULAR SHAPES OF THE GDCS AND RECONSTRUCTED CEX DCS AT EACH MOMENTUM ARE SIMILAR,BUT WITH A PEAK TO VALLEY RATIO ABOUT TWICE AS LARGE FOR THE CEX DCS AS FOR THE GDCS. BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF AN ERROR MATRIX WE HAVE NOT USED THE LC ERRORS TO ESTIMATE THE ERRORS OF THE RECONSTRUCTED CEX DCS DATA. INSTEAD,WE RECONSTRUCT AT THE SAME ANGLES AS THE GDCS DATA AND RECORD A FRACTIONAL ERROR EQUAL TO 1.6*(THE FRACTIONAL ERROR OF THE CORRESPONDING GDCS POINT). THE FACTOR 1.6 IS CHOSEN TO GIVE A NET STATISTICAL WEIGHT AT EACH ENERGY ABOUT HALF AS LARGE AS THAT OF THE LC (CONSIDERED AS INDEPENDENT DATA) AND ABOUT 1/3 AS LARGE AS THAT OF THE GDCS. THE LC WERE NORMALIZED TO OTHER DATA SO WE HAVE AN INFINITE NE. THE ME'S ARE TAKEN TO BE THE SAME AS IN ZINOV60A. /// ZINOV60C [V. G. ZINOV,SOVIET PHYSICS JETP 11,1016(1960)] -- PARTIAL WAVE ANALYSIS USING DATA FROM ZINOV60A AND 60B. /// ZINOV60D [V. G. ZINOV,SOVIET PHYSICS JETP 11,1233(1960)] -- PI- P TCS AT 39 MOMENTA BETWEEN 263 AND 481 MEV/C. SCINTILLATION COUNTER TRANSMISSION EXPERIMENT DONE AT JINR. ME IS +/- 1 PCT OVERALL,+/- 0.1 PCT POINT-TO-POINT. /// ZINOV58A [V. G. ZINOV,SOVIET PHYSICS JETP 6,260(1958)] -- PRELIMINARY PI- P DCS RESULTS AT 424 MEV/C. /// ZINOV58B [V. G. ZINOV,SOVIET PHYSICS JETP 6,1006(1958)] -- PRELIMINARY PI- P AND CEX DCS RESULTS AT 451 MEV/C. /// ZINOV58C [V. G. ZINOV,SOVIET PHYSICS JETP 6,1007(1958)] -- PRELIMINARY CEX DCS RESULTS AT 424 MEV/C. /// ZINOV58D [V. G. ZINOV,SOVIET PHYSICS JETP 7,210(1958)] -- SINGLE PION PRODUCTION DATA TAKEN AT JINR WITH APPARATUS SIMILAR TO THAT OF ZINOV60A AND 60B. DETAILED DISCUSSION OF APPARATUS. /// ZINOV59 [V. G. ZINOV,SOVIET PHYSICS JETP 9,429(1959)] -- PRELIMINARY PI- P AND CEX DCS RESULTS AT 353 AND 385 MEV/C. /// COMMENTS ON MODIFICATIONS TO LOVELACE71 COMPILATION BY KELLY -- LOVELACE71 RECORDS THE LC AND THEIR DIAGONAL ERRORS ONLY FOR THE CEX DCS DATA OF ZINOV60B.
