DIFFERENTIAL DISTRIBUTIONS OF NEUTRONS IN INELASTIC pi- p INTERACTIONS AT 374-MeV, 417-MeV and 454-MeV

THE FOLLOWING COMMENTS ARE TAKEN FROM THE PI N COMPILATION OF R.L. KELLY. THEY ARE THAT COMPILATION& apos;S COMPLETE SET OF COMMENTS FOR PAPERS RELATED TO THE SAME EXPERIMENT (DESIGNATED KURZ62) AS THE CURRENT PAPER. (THE IDENTIFIER PRECEDING THE REFERENCE AND COMMENT FOR EACH PAPER IS FOR CROSS-REFERENCING WITHIN THESE COMMENTS ONLY AND DOES NOT NECESSARILY AGREE WITH THE SHORT CODE USED ELSEWHERE IN THE PRESENT COMPILATION.) /// KURZ62 [R. J. KURZ,UCB THESIS,UCRL-10564,1962.] -- DATA READ FROM GRAPH. MAINLY CONCERNED WITH SINGLE PION PRODUCTION BUT ALSO CONTAINS CEX DCS DATA AT 494 AND 539 MEV/C. DONE AT LBL 184 IN. CYCLOTRON WITH NEUTRON DETECTORS. ELASTIC AND INELASTIC NEUTRONS WERE SEPARATED BY TIME OF FLIGHT, AND THE DISCRIMINATION WAS POOR FOR NEUTRONS AT LAB ANGLES OF LESS THAN 40 DEGREES WITH THE BEAM. THE ESTIMATED UNCERTAINTY IN THE NEUTRON DETECTION EFFICIENCY WAS +/-10 PCT. SOME OF THE 494 MEV/C DATA WAS USED BY LIND65 (OF WHICH KURZ WAS AN AUTHOR) AND WE HAVE RECORDED THEIR VERSION OF THE 494 MEV/C DATA. THE 539 MEV/C DATA RECORDED HERE WAS READ FROM A GRAPH IN KURZ62, THE EFFICIENCY UNCERTAINTY WAS FOLDED INTO EACH ERROR, AND ONLY DATA IN THE FORWARD HEMISPHERE (CM) RETAINED. APPLICATION OF THIS PROCEDURE TO THE 494 MEV/C DATA ON THE GRAPH GIVES RESULTS AGREEING WITH THE LIND65 VERSION OF THAT DATA. /// LIND65 [D. L. LIND,PR 138,B1509(1965).] -- /// BARISH64 [B. C. BARISH,PR 135,B416(1964).] -- REPORTS INELASTIC DATA OF KURZ62 AND TWO OTHER SINGLE PION PRODUCTION EXPERIMENTS IN THE SAME ENERGY RANGE. /// COMMENTS ON MODIFICATIONS TO LOVELACE71 COMPILATION BY KELLY -- THE LOVELACE71 VERSION OF THE 539 MEV/C DATA WAS READ FROM A GRAPH BY C. H. JOHNSON,PRIV. COMM. WE FOUND ONE MAJOR DISCREPANCY.
