A search is performed for pair-produced spin-3/2 excited top quarks ($t^*\\bar{t}^*$), each decaying to a top quark and a gluon. The search uses data collected with the CMS detector from pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of $\\sqrt{s}$=8 TeV, selecting events that have a single isolated muon or electron, an imbalance in transverse momentum, and at least six jets, of which one must be compatible with originating from the fragmentation of a b quark. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 inverse femtobarns, show no significant excess over standard model predictions, and provide a lower limit of 803 GeV at 95% confidence on the mass of the spin-3/2 t* quark in an extension of the Randall-Sundrum model, assuming a 100% branching fraction of its decay into a top quark and a gluon. This is the first search for a spin-3/2 excited top quark performed at the LHC.","hasPart":[{"@id":"https://doi.org/10.17182/hepdata.66136.v1/t1","@type":"Dataset","description":"Kinematic distributions of single l + > 5-jet events in data (points), compared to MC simulation normalized to the number...","name":"Table 1"},{"@id":"https://doi.org/10.17182/hepdata.66136.v1/t2","@type":"Dataset","description":"Kinematic distributions of single l + > 5-jet events in data (points), compared to MC simulation normalized to the number...","name":"Table 2"},{"@id":"https://doi.org/10.17182/hepdata.66136.v1/t3","@type":"Dataset","description":"Kinematic distributions of single l + > 5-jet events in data (points), compared to MC simulation normalized to the number...","name":"Table 3"},{"@id":"https://doi.org/10.17182/hepdata.66136.v1/t4","@type":"Dataset","description":"Kinematic distributions of single l + > 5-jet events in data (points), compared to MC simulation normalized to the number...","name":"Table 4"},{"@id":"https://doi.org/10.17182/hepdata.66136.v1/t5","@type":"Dataset","description":"Kinematic distributions of single l + > 5-jet events in data (points), compared to MC simulation normalized to the number...","name":"Table 5"},{"@id":"https://doi.org/10.17182/hepdata.66136.v1/t6","@type":"Dataset","description":"Kinematic distributions of single l + > 5-jet events in data (points), compared to MC simulation normalized to the number...","name":"Table 6"},{"@id":"https://doi.org/10.17182/hepdata.66136.v1/t7","@type":"Dataset","description":"Reconstructed mass spectrum for the $tg$ system in data (points), along with a fit of the background $f(m)$ to the...","name":"Table 7"},{"@id":"https://doi.org/10.17182/hepdata.66136.v1/t8","@type":"Dataset","description":"Reconstructed mass spectrum for the $tg$ system in data (points), along with a fit of the background $f(m)$ to the...","name":"Table 8"},{"@id":"https://doi.org/10.17182/hepdata.66136.v1/t9","@type":"Dataset","description":"The observed (solid line) and expected (dashed line) 95%CL upper limits for the product of the inclusive $t^{*}\\bar{t}^{*}$ production cross...","name":"Table 9"}],"identifier":[{"@type":"PropertyValue","propertyID":"HEPDataRecord","value":"https://www.hepdata.net/record/ins1265512?version=1"},{"@type":"PropertyValue","propertyID":"HEPDataRecordAlt","value":"https://www.hepdata.net/record/66136"}],"inLanguage":"en","name":"Search for pair production of excited top quarks in the lepton+jets final state","provider":{"@type":"Organization","name":"HEPData"},"publisher":{"@type":"Organization","name":"HEPData"},"url":"https://www.hepdata.net/record/ins1265512?version=1","version":1}
