Abstract (data abstract)
CERN-LHC. This data presents the result of a search for charged Higgs bosons decaying via $H^{\pm}\to\tau^{\pm}\nu_{\tau}$ in 36 fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collision data recorded at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV recorded with the ATLAS experiment. No evidence of a charged Higgs boson is found. For the mass range of $m_{H^{\pm}}$ = 90-2000 GeV, upper limits at the 95% confidence level are set on the production cross-section of the charged Higgs boson times the branching fraction $\mathrm{\cal{B}}(H^{\pm} \to \tau^{\pm}\nu_{\tau})$ in a range of 4.2-0.0025 pb. In the mass range 90-160 GeV, assuming the Standard Model cross-section for $t\bar{t}$ production, this corresponds to upper limits between 0.25% and 0.031% for the branching fraction $\mathrm{\cal{B}}(t\to bH^{\pm}) \times \mathrm{\cal{B}}(H^{\pm} \to \tau^{\pm}\nu_{\tau})$. The $\tau$+jets channel fiducial region is defined as: - At least one hadronic tau decay ($\tau_{\rm had-vis}$) - Choose $\tau_{\rm had-vis}$ with highest $p_{\rm T}$ satisfying Medium ID cut - $p_{\rm T}$($\tau_{\rm had-vis}$) > 40 GeV, |$\eta$($\tau_{\rm had-vis}$)| < 1.37 or 1.52 < |$\eta$($\tau_{\rm had-vis}$)| < 2.3 - No electrons or muons - At least three jets with $p_{\rm T}$ > 25 GeV, of which at least one is $b$-tagged - $E_{\rm T}^{\rm miss}$ > 150 GeV - $m_{\rm T}$($\tau_{\rm had-vis}$, $E_{\rm T}^{\rm miss}$) > 50 GeV The $\tau$+lepton channel fiducial region is defined as: - At least one hadronic tau decay ($\tau_{\rm had-vis}$) - Choose $\tau_{\rm had-vis}$ with highest $p_{\rm T}$ satisfying Medium ID cut - $p_{\rm T}$($\tau_{\rm had-vis}$) > 30 GeV, |$\eta$($\tau_{\rm had-vis}$)| < 1.37 or 1.52 < |$\eta$($\tau_{\rm had-vis}$)| < 2.3 - Exactly one light lepton (electron or muon) satisfying Tight ID cut - $p_{\rm T}$(e) > 30 GeV, |$\eta$(e)| < 1.37 or 1.52 < |$\eta$(e)| < 2.47 - $p_{\rm T}$($\mu$) > 30 GeV, |$\eta$($\mu$)| < 2.5 - At least one is $b$-tagged with $p_{\rm T}$ > 25 GeV - $E_{\rm T}^{\rm miss}$ > 50 GeV
