The ratios of the $B_{c}^{+}(2S)$ to $B_{c}^{+}$, $B_{c}^{+*}(2S)$ to $B_{c}^{+}$ and $B_{c}^{+*}(2S)$ to $B_{c}^{+}(2S)$ production cross section are measured in proton-proton collisions at $\\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV, using a data sample collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $143$ fb$^{-1}$. The three measurements are made in the $B_{c}^{+}$ meson phase space region defined by transverse momentum pT>15 GeV and absolute rapidity $|y|<$2.4, with the excited $B_{c}^{(*)+}(2S)$ states reconstructed through the $B_{c}^{(*)+}\\pi^{+}\\pi^{-}$, followed by the $B_{c}^{+} \\to J/\\psi\\pi^{+}$ and $J/\\psi \\to \\mu^{+}\\mu^{-} decays$. The $B_{c}^{+}(2S)$ to $B_{c}^{+}$, $B_{c}^{+*}(2S)$ to $B_{c}^{+}$, and $B_{c}^{+*}(2S)$ to $B_{c}^{+}(2S)$ cross section ratios, including the unknown $B_{c}^{(*)+}(2S) \\to B_{c}^{+}\\pi^{+}\\pi^{-}$ branching fractions, are $(3.47 \\pm 0.63(stat) \\pm 0.33(syst))$%, $(4.69 \\pm 0.71(stat) \\pm 0.56 (syst))$%, and $1.35 \\pm 0.32(stat) \\pm 0.09(syst)$, respectively. None of these ratios shows a significant dependence on the pT or $|y|$ of the $B_{c}^{+}$ meson. The normalized dipion invariant mass distributions from the decays $B_{c}^{(*)+}(2S) \\to B_{c}^{(*)+}\\pi^{+}\\pi^{-}$ are also reported.","hasPart":[{"@id":"https://doi.org/10.17182/hepdata.94835.v1/t1","@type":"Dataset","description":"Relative cross sections of the Bc(2S) and Bc(2S)* states with respect to the Bc.","name":"Table 1"},{"@id":"https://doi.org/10.17182/hepdata.94835.v1/t2","@type":"Dataset","description":"Invariant mass distribution of the dipion system.","name":"Table 2"},{"@id":"https://doi.org/10.17182/hepdata.94835.v1/t3","@type":"Dataset","description":"Invariant mass distribution of the dipion system.","name":"Table 3"},{"@id":"https://doi.org/10.17182/hepdata.94835.v1/t4","@type":"Dataset","description":"Cross section ratios as functions of the Bc pT.","name":"Table 4"},{"@id":"https://doi.org/10.17182/hepdata.94835.v1/t5","@type":"Dataset","description":"Cross section ratios as functions of the Bc |y|.","name":"Table 5"}],"identifier":[{"@type":"PropertyValue","propertyID":"HEPDataRecord","value":"https://www.hepdata.net/record/ins1797810?version=1"},{"@type":"PropertyValue","propertyID":"HEPDataRecordAlt","value":"https://www.hepdata.net/record/94835"}],"inLanguage":"en","name":"Relative cross sections of the ${B_c^+(2S)}$ and ${B_c^{*+}(2S)}$ states with respect to the ${B_c^+}$ state in proton-proton collisions at $\\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV","provider":{"@type":"Organization","name":"HEPData"},"publisher":{"@type":"Organization","name":"HEPData"},"url":"https://www.hepdata.net/record/ins1797810?version=1","version":1}
