The Spin dependent structure function g(1) (x) of the proton from polarized deep inelastic muon scattering

Abstract (data abstract)
CERN-SPS. Measurement of the virtual photon asymmetry A1 in deep inelastic scattering of polarised muons on polarised protons. The data come from the 1996 running period and compliment previous SMC data taken in 1993 which used a butanol target. The present experiment uses a solid ammonia target. The data cover the kinematic range of x from 0.0008 to 0.7 and Q**2 from 0.2 to 100 GeV**2. The spin dependent structure function is determined as a function of Q**2 and also evolved to Q**2 = 10 GeV**2.
