Studying the Underlying Event in Drell-Yan and High Transverse Momentum Jet Production at the Tevatron

Abstract (data abstract)
Fermilab-Tevatron. Study of the underlying event in PBAR-P collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 1960 GeV. Data are presented on the behaviour of charged particles produced in association with a Drell-Yan lepton pair in the Z0 region and also with a large transverse momentum jet. The total integrated luminosity of the Drell-Yan data is 2.7 fb-1 and of the jet data 2.2 fb-1. The direcion of the lepton pair or of the leading jet is used to define regions of ETARAP-PHI space which is sensitive to the modeling of the underlying event. Data are corrected to the particle level. Data are divided into the toward, transverse and away regions defined by 60 degree angles of the azimuthal angle between the charged particle and the lepton pair (or jet) angle.
