We report on an experiment to obtain differential cross sections for K+p elastic scattering in the vicinity of the possible exotic baryon, the Z1*(1900). The differential cross sections are based on typically 70 000 selected events in the angular region −0.9≤cosθc.m.≤0.9 at each of 22 momenta from 0.865 to 2.125 GeV/c. The data are intended for use in partial-wave analysis to search for the Z1*.

We present direct measurements of the total cross section for neutrons on protons and deuterons in the momentum range 0.7 to 3.6 GeVc. Using these and other nucleon-nucleon total cross sections, we evaluate total cross sections in the pure isospin states.

COMPUTED USING SIG(I=0) = 2*SIG(NP) - SIG(PP) FROM SIG(NP) AND INTERPOLATED PREVIOUSLY MEASURED PROTON-PROTON CROSS SECTIONS.
We have measured the polarization parameter in neuton-proton charge-exchange scattering for incident neutron momenta of 2-12 GeVc and 0.01<~|t|<~1.0 (GeVc)2. Results based on 300 000 events show a negative polarization whose magnitude increases monotonically with |t| approaching 60% for |t|∼0.6 and which has little energy dependence.

The elastic scattering of positive pions by deuterium has been studied using a scintillating target to detect the recoil deuteron. In addition to the angular distribution measured for 256 MeV incident energy, the energy variation of the fixed angle cross section ( θ lab =160°) has been determined between 141 MeV and 256 MeV. The former is in qualitative agreement with a simple multiple-scattering calculation, but the energy dependence is poorly reproduced.

Invariant single-particle cross sections for pion and proton production in π ± p interactions at 8 and 16 GeV/ c are presented in terms of integrated distributions as functions of x , reduced rapidity ζ and p ⊥ 2 , and also in terms of double differential cross sections E d 2 σ /(d x d p ⊥ 2 ) and d ζ d p ⊥ 2 ). A comparison of π ± and π − induced reactions is made and the energy dependence is discussed. It is shown that the single-particle structure function cannot be factorized in its dependece on transverse and longitudinal momentum. For the beam-unlike pion, there is an indication for factorizability in terms of rapidity and transverse momentum in a small central region.

Asymmetries in charged-pion photoproduction from hydrogen and deuterium have been measured with 16-GeV linearly polarized photons. Considerable energy dependence is seen in the natural-parity contribution to the π−π+ ratio from deuterium, and in the unnatural-parity part of the cross section for γn→π−p. The energy dependence of this latter cross section is consistent with the expected from a conventional pion Regge trajectory.

The asymmetry of the reaction γ d π − p ( p S ) with linearly polarized photons has been measured at 3.4 GeV and momentum transfers √− t between 0.2 and 0.8 GeV/ c . The asymmetry A = (σ + −σ − ) (σ + +σ − ) of the reaction γ p↑↓ → π 0 p was measured at the Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron DESY, Hamburg at a mean photon energy of 4.0 GeV in the four-momentum transfer range 0.2 (GeV/ c ) 2 ⩽ −t ⩽ 1.1 (GeV/ c ) 2 in steps of approximately 0.08 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The π 0 -meson and the proton were detected in coincidence. The differential cross section for the charge exchange p p → n n has been measured with high statistics at 7.76 GeV/ c and at 5.0 GeV/ c . The 7.76 GeV/ c data show a very narrow [ Δt ⪅ 0.01 (GeV/ c ) 2 ] forward peak superposed on a slow exponential fall-off.
