A preliminary study of single pion production with no annihilation and multiple pion annihilation in antiproton-proton interactions at 7 GeV/c indicates that the single pion production cross-section is 5.6±1.2mb, and the multipion annihilation cross-section is ∼24mb. Although there is strong evidence for resonance production in the one pion production channels, these states do not appear to be dominated by any single resonance. Resonance production in the annihilation channels is small compared to rates observed at lower energies.

The high antiproton-proton luminosity obtained by using a target system consisting of a hydrogen gas-jet crossing a coasting beam of cooled antiproton circulating in one of the rings of CERN's ISR provides the possibility to measure low cross section reactions with very high precision. We present measurements of the antiproton-proton elastic cross section at 90° CM at incident momenta between 3.5 GeV/ c and 5.7 GeV/ c . The precision of these measurements is much higher than previously reported results. The data show that the cross section of this reaction decreases faster than s −12 over this momentum range.

The differential cross sections of p¯p elastic scattering have been measured at incident beam momenta of 390, 490, 590, 690, and 780 MeV/c. The results are compared with the predictions of various N¯N potential models. None of these models completely explains the present results.

Simple inclusive cross sections for p p interactions at 12 GeV/ c are given. The data cover prong cross sections, V 0 production and resonances. Separation has been made into annihilation and non-annihilation modes. Some implications of the data are discussed. It is pointed out that the ratios of cross sections for ϱ 0 π − production are independent of incident antiproton momentum in p p annihilation processes, and that data at the highest available pp energies (ISR) tend to the same value.

The differential cross sections for K − p and p p elastic scattering have been measured over the range of four-momentum transfer squared 0.18<− t <3.3 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The K − p data decrease smoothly as a function of − t , whereas, the p p data shows a break at − t = 0.6 (GeV/ c ) 2 followed by a fast drop to − t ≅ 1.6 (GeV/ c ) 2 where the differential cross section levels off and stays constant out to − t = 3 (GeV/ c ) 2 .

A bubble-chamber experiment based on 304 000 events of p¯p interactions at 2.32 GeV/c is described. The film was automatically scanned and measured by the POLLY II system. Details of the data-analysis methods are given. We report results on cross sections for constrained final states, tests of C invariance, and inclusive pion and ρ0 multiplicity parameters for annihilation final states.

Differential cross sections have been measured in the region of small forward angles (between 0 and ∼40 mrad) for the elastic scattering reactions pp → pp at 4.2, 7.0 and 10.0 GeV /c and p p → p p at 4.2, 6.0, 8.0 and 10.0 GeV /c . The maximum momentum transfer is ∼0.025 GeV 2 at the lowest and ∼0.10 GeV/c at the highest incident momentum. Values of the slope and the real part of the forward scattering amplitude of the above reactions have been derived; the values obtained are in good agreement with dispersion relations.

Antiproton-proton elastic scattering data at 6.2 GeV/ c in the range 0.3 (GeV/ c ) 2 ⩽ − t ⩽ 10.0 (GeV/ c ) 2 is presented. The experiment, using spark chambers and proportional chambers, was performed at the CERN Proton Synchroton.

The differential cross sections of the elastic p p reaction have been measured at 1.2, 1.4, 1.8 and 2.6 GeV/ c incident p momentum. The measurements have been performed at the CERN PS using a system of multiwire proportional chambers. The angular region covers scattering angles from 0 to ∼200 mrad. Interference effects between the Coulomb and the nuclear amplitudes are used to derive the ratio of the real to imaginary part of the forward nuclear amplitude. These ratios are compared with theoretical predictions.
