We report measurements of the invariant cross section in the forward hemisphere for inclusive photoproduction of π±, K±, p, and p¯ from hydrogen and deuterium with an incident photon energy of 18 GeV. A small amount of data was also taken at incident energies of 9 and 13 GeV. The measurements were made using the SLAC 20-GeV/c spectrometer, and a bremsstrahlung-subtraction technique was used to obtain the cross sections at the specified incident energy. The data are compared with those from lower-energy experiments and interpreted within the context of the Mueller-Regge model and the constituent-interchange model.

In view of the possible production of heavy leptons or charmed states in e+e− collisions, we searched for anomalous muons with momenta pμ≳1 GeV/c. The inclusive cross section for nch>~3 has an upper limit of 96 pb (assuming isotropy). For nch=2 and noncoplanarity > 20°, an excess of muonic events is observed, corresponding to (dσdΩ)|90°=23−9+12 pb/sr; the probability that known processes produce the observed events is 2×10−4.

We have measured the spin-spin correlation parameter CNN at 2, 3, 4, and 6 GeV/c over the |t| range of 0.1 to 2.0 (GeV/c)2 and have observed a striking energy and |t| dependence in CNN. Polarization data were simultaneously collected and are compared to previous results.
CNN PARAMETER MEASURED.
A 7.5 GeV linearly polarized photon beam was used to study ϱ 0 production on d, n and p in the SLAC 82 inch bubble chamber. The production of ϱ 0 is found to proceed mainly via t -channel natural parity exchange and to conserve s -channel c.m.s. helicity for small t . The I = 1 contribution to the γ N → ϱ 0 t -channel amplitude is found to be small at 7.5 GeV.

DIPION EVENTS IN THE RHO0 MASS REGION (600 TO 880 MEV).
Data on correlations between momentum analysed protons, pions or K mesons, and charged particles produced in pp collisions at the CERN ISR are presented. The charged particles were detected in a ∼4 π scintillation counter hodoscope. The pseudo-rapidity distributions are well described by production within the limits of cylindrical phase space, with negative kaons and antiprotons yielding narrower distributions than protons, pions and positive kaons. The azimuthal distributions show symmetry around the t -channel axis in the rest frame of the recoiling mass M x in pp → aX (a = detected proton, pion, positive kaon).

The fragmentation of the neutron into p π − induced by incident K + of 8.25 GeV/ c is studied using data from the CERN 2 m deuterium bubble chamber and compared with data at 4.6 and 12 GeV/ c . The p π − low-mass enhancement below 1.85 GeV is analyzed and the major part exhibits the properties expected for diffraction dissociation. The presence of resonances is discussed. The data are fairly well represented by a double Regge exchange model involving pion and pomeron exchanges. The violation of the s -channel and t -channel helicity conservation is observed and compared to the s -channel description of Humble.
INTERCEPT AND SLOPE OF DIFFERENTIAL CROSS SECTION FOR -TP < 0.24 (0.48 FOR N1700) GEV**2.
An analysis has been made of 64 600 events of the type K−p→K−p and 22 800 events of the type K−p→K¯0n in the Berkeley 25-in. hydrogen bubble chamber. Differential cross sections have been measured in intervals of 10 MeV/c over the momentum range 220 to 470 MeV/c. Legendre-polynomial fits to the distributions have been made, and the coefficients show structure from the resonant D-wave [Λ(1520)] and background S and P waves. No new structure is observed. The total K−p cross section determined from measurements of all final states seen in this exposure is also presented.

We present the first evidence for K ∗ (1780) production in a non-exchange channel. This comes from a study of the reaction K − p → K° π − p at 14.3 GeV/ c . We also present evidence for K ∗ ° (1780) production in the charge exchange channel K − p → K − π + n. No significant K ππ , K ω and K η decay modes are found. The decay angular distribution, the spin-parity assignments and the production mechanism are discussed. With plausible assumptions on the production mechanism, the J P = 3 − spin-parity is favoured.

We have studied photoproduction using a 1 m streamer chamber at DESY and a tagged photon beam with an energy range of 1.6 GeV < E γ < 6.3 GeV. We analysed approximately 30 000 events and report topological, channel and resonance production cross sections for a large number of reactions with three and five outgoing charged particles.
