Inclusive Ξ − production is studied in K − p interactions at 8.25 GeV/ c using about 8000 events. An analysis based on the triple-Regge model shows that the Λ α − Λ γ and Σ β − Σ δ exchanges explain the forward Ξ − production. Ξ(1530) properties are also studied and are found to be similar to those of Ξ − 's. Finally, a study of the production of Ω − based on 67 events shows that Ω's are also produced by hyperon exchange.

The differential cross sections of the reactions e + e − → e + e − and e + e − → λλ are measured at energies between 33.0 and 36.7 GeV. The results agree with the predictions of quantum electrodynamics. A comparison with the standard model of electroweak interaction yields sin 2 θ W = 0.25 ± 0.13.

Total neutrino and antineutrino cross sections in the energy range 15 to 150 GeV, and the nucleon structure functions, F 2 ( x , Q 2 ) and xF 3 ( x , Q 2 ) in the Q 2 range 0.5 to 50 (GeV/ c ) 2 have been measured using a data sample of 3000 neutrino and 3800 antineutrino events. The structure functions show a weak Q 2 dependence at different x values.

A new measurement of the ratio R = σ L / σ T of longitudinal and transverse structure functions in neutrino interactions on iron between 30 and 190 GeV neutrino energy is reported. The result is given as a function of the scale parameter x and the inelasticity ν of the interaction. The average value is R = 0.10 ± 0.07 around ν ≈ 50 GeV and is in accordance with a prediction from the QCD theory.

We have measured the inclusive cross section for η production in e+e− interactions near charm threshold using the Crystal Ball detector. No pronounced structure in the energy dependence is observed. By comparing cross sections above and below charm threshold we obtain the limits (90% confidence limit): R(e+e−→FF¯X)RB(F→ηx)<0.15−0.32 (for Ec.m. from 4.0 to 4.5 GeV), RB(D→ηx)<0.13. Our results are inconsistent with a previous report of a large energy dependence of the η cross section ascribed to the crossing of the FF* and F*F* production thresholds.

The inclusive charged-hadron momentum spectra from the ψ and ψ′ decays produced in e+e− collisions at SPEAR are presented. The data were obtained with a small solid-angle, single-arm magnetic spectrometer with good particle-identification abilities centered at 90 degrees with respect to the beams. The particle-separated invariant cross sections are compared with data from e+e− collisions at s=4.8 and 7.3 GeV, obtained with the same spectrometer, in order to observe the difference between hadron production at the resonances and in the continuum.

The reaction γ p → K + K − p has been investigated with tagged photons in the energy range of 20 < E γ < 70 GeV. A structure in the 1.7 GeV mass region is observed and interpreted in terms of a recurrence of the ø.

The reaction π − p → φφ n has been isolated at 16 GeV/ c and its cross section determined to be 40 ± 10 nb. The φφ mass spectrum shows a threshold enhancement between 2.1 and 2.5 GeV. A successful description of the angular content of the φφ system requires two interferingss J P = 2 + states.

SLOPE OF DIFFERENTIAL TP(P=3,P=2) DISTRIBUTION.
New experimental results are presented on inclusive production properties of\(\bar \Sigma ^{ *+ } \)(1385) and\(\bar \Sigma ^{ *+ } \)(1385) inK+p interactions at 32 GeV/c. The analysis is based on significantly larger statistics than previously available. A comparison is also made of invariantx-distributions ofK0/\(\bar K^0 \),\(\bar \Lambda \) and\(\bar \Xi ^ +\) and of\(\bar \Sigma ^{ *\pm } \)(1385) andK*+(892). These spectra exhibit regularities expected from the quark-recombination picture when it is assumed that the strange mesons and antibaryons are produced off the strange\(\bar s\)-valence-quark in the incidentK+ meson. Transverse momentum distributions are also presented forK*+(892) and\(\bar \Sigma ^{ *\pm } \)(1385) and found to be very similar. The results on strange antibaryon average multiplicities disagree strongly with a recent version of the additive quark model.

Results on inclusive K s 0 production in e + e − annihilation at mean center-of-mass energies of 9.4, 12.0 and 30 GeV are presented. The ratio R (K 0 ) = 2 σ (K s 0 )/ σ μμ rises from 3.10 ± 0.75 at √ s = 9.4 GeV to 5.6 ± 1.2 at √ s = 30 GeV, corresponding to an approximately constant K 0 /charged-particle ratio of 0.12 ± 0.02. A similar ratio for K 0 / charged particle is observed for direct hadronic decays of the ϒ.
