Low mass muon pair production at high P T and low X F studied in pU, OU and SU 200 GeV per nucleon react ions. When energy density or projectile mass are increased, φ production is enhanced as compared with the yield of muon pairs in the mass continuum (1.7< M μμ < 2.4 GeV/ c 2 ), whereas the production of ω and ϱ, experimentally unresolved, remains approximately constant. This φ enhancement is in agreement with predictions based on quark-gluon plasma formation and, together with the previously reported J/Ψ suppression, puts severe constraints on a purely hadronic description of nucleus-nucleus collisions.

Multi-strange baryon and antibaryon production in sulphur tungsten and proton tungsten interactions at 200-GeV/c per nucleon.

Production of multi-strange baryons and antibaryons is expected to be a useful indicator in the search for Quark-Gluon Plasma formation. Production of Ξ − and Ξ − has been observed for the first time in ultra-relativistic heavy ion interactions by the WA85 Experiment. We describe the procedure used to select these cascade candidates and show that Ξ − and Ξ − decays can be identified. Preliminary ratios of Ξ/Ξ production in sulphur-tungsten and proton-tungsten interactions are also presented.

Transverse momentum of dimuons production in p U, O U and S U collisions at 200-GeV/nucleon.

Nucl.Phys.A 525 (1991) 469C-472C, 1991.
Inspire Record 328922 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.36783

Dimuon production m p-U, O-U and S-U collisions has been studied at 200 GeV/N. It is observed that 〈 p T 〉 and 〈 p 2 T 〉 of the J / Ψ transverse momentum distributions increase with the transverse energy of the ion induced reactions. Such a marked behaviour is not seen for muon pairs of the continuum.

Strangeness production in anti-proton annihilation at rest on He-3, He-4 and Ne-20

Balestra, F. ; Batusov, Yu.A. ; Bendiscioli, G. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.A 526 (1991) 415-452, 1991.
Inspire Record 320088 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.36782

New data are reported on antiproton annihilations at rest with production of Λ and K s 0 , using a streamer chamber with 3 He, 4 He and 20 Ne as gas targets. The data include Λ, K s 0 , ΛK s 0 and K s 0 K S 0 production rates and momentum distributions, π − momentum spectra, mean numbers of charged particles generally and of negatively charged particles separately for different reaction channels. The yields are compared to simple combinatorial calculations based on the extreme assumptions of Λ production via B = 1 or via B = 0 ( K ̄ rescattering) annihilations. Λ and K s 0 momentum spectra are compared to simple model calculations where B = 0 and B = 1 annihilations with and without final-state interactions are considered. A review of existing data on Λ and K s 0 production is presented, showing the dependence on the p ̄ momentum and on the mass number of the target.

Search for multi - baryonic resonances in the anti-p + d ---> pi- + X reaction

Aslanides, E. ; Benabdelouahed, D. ; Bergdolt, A.M. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.A 528 (1991) 608-620, 1991.
Inspire Record 323124 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.36714

The reaction p + d → π − + X has been studied at Saturne at 1.45, 2.10 and 2.70 GeV, using the spectrometer SPES III. The analysing power and the differential cross sections show no evidence for narrow structures which could be interpreted as a resonance in the three baryon system. At the lowest incident energy, the shapes of the experimental cross sections are well reproduced by phase-space distributions.

We report the multiplicity and angular distributions of the low energy target-associated particles from 32S and 16O induced reactions at 200 GeV/nucleon and 16O induced reactions at 60 GeV/nucleon in emulsion. The results are compared with the Monte-Carlo Code VENUS.

An Improved determination of the electroweak mixing angle from muon-neutrino electron scattering

The CHARM-II collaboration Geiregat, D. ; Vilain, P. ; Wilquet, G. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 259 (1991) 499-507, 1991.
Inspire Record 314000 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.18515

We are reporting an improved determination of the electroweak mixing angle sin 2 Θ w from the ratio of ν μ e to ν μ e scattering cross sections. The CHARM II detector was exposed to neutrino and antineutrino wide band beams at the 450 GeV CERN SPS. Including new data collected in 1989 we have obtained 1316 ± 56 ν μ e and 1453 ± 62 ν μ e events. From the ratio of the visible cross sections we determined sin 2 Θ 0 =0.239 ± 0.009(stat) ± 0.007(syst) without radiative corrections and g V e g A e =0.047 ± 0.046 . Combining this last result with recent results on g A e at LEP we obtain g V e = −0.023 ± 0.023.

Polarization of $\Xi^-$ Hyperons Produced by 800-GeV Protons

Phys.Rev.Lett. 67 (1991) 1193-1196, 1991.
Inspire Record 322767 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19903

The polarization PΞ− of Ξ− hyperons produced by 800-GeV protons has been measured for xF from 0.3 to 0.7 and pT from 0.5 to 1.5 GeV/c. PΞ− has a pT dependence similar to that of the Λ but has a different xF behavior. Also, an energy dependence of PΞ− has been observed.

Spin transfer measurements of the pi d (polarized) ---> p p (polarized) reaction spanning the Delta resonance

Feltham, A. ; Trelle, R.P. ; Jones, G. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 66 (1991) 2573-2576, 1991.
Inspire Record 315151 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19906

The first spin-transfer observables for the πd→pp reaction have been measured at a number of energies spanning the Δ resonance in this system. These parameters correspond to KSL and KSS of the pp→dπ reaction for incident proton energies ranging from 600 to 800 MeV. Such data can provide an important constraint on the determination of the partial-wave amplitudes describing this fundamental reaction. The discrepancies between our data, theoretical predictions, and values calculated from published partial-wave amplitudes demonstrate the need for further work in this area.
