Production of pions, kaons, protons and antiprotons has been studied in e + e − annihilations at 12 and 30 GeV centre of mass energy using time of flight techniques. The fractional yield of charged kaons and baryons appears to rise with outgoing particle momentum. At our highest energy at least 40% of e + e − annihilations into hadrons are estimated to contain baryons.

Total Width and Leptonic Branching Ratio of the $\Upsilon$ (9.46)

Phys.Rev.Lett. 46 (1981) 92, 1981.
Inspire Record 153813 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20644

With use of the LENA detector at the DORIS e+e− storage ring, the hadronic cross section and the μ-pair decay branching ratio of the ϒ(9.46) resonance have been measured. Γee=1.23±0.10 (±0.14) keV, Bμμ=[3.5±1.4 (±0.4)]%, and Γtot=35−10+25 ({+9}{−7}) keV have been obtained. The first set of errors gives the statistical uncertainty. The numbers in parentheses represent systematic errors arising from the uncertainty in the total hadronic cross section.

Observation of the Upsilon''' at CESR

During an energy scan at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, with use of the Columbia University-Stony Brook NaI detector, an enhancement in σ(e+e−→hadrons) is observed at center-of-mass energy ∼10.55 GeV. The mass and leptonic width of this state (ϒ′′′) suggest that it is the 4S13 bound state of the b quark and its antiquark. After applying to the data a cut in a (pseudo) thrust variable, the natural width is measured to be Γ=12.6±6.0 MeV, indicating that the ϒ′′′ is above the threshold for BB¯ production.

In this Letter, a measurement of inclusive muon production (pμ>2 GeV/c) in e+e− annihilation into hadrons at center-of-mass energies from s=12 to 31.6 GeV is reported. The results agree with the expected semileptonic decays from charmed and bottom mesons.

Direct Photon Production at the $\psi$

We present results of a detailed analysis of inclusive direct photon production at the ψ(3095). The direct-photon momentum distribution for x>0.4 is presented and compared with the leading-order quantum-chromodynamic prediction. The total production rate is found to be consistent with theoretical expectations, but the observed momentum distribution is considerably softer. Results of an analysis of some inclusive properties of the hadronic system recoiling against the direct photon are presented. The mean charged-particle and Ks multiplicities are presented as functions of the invariant mass of the hadronic system. These data agree well with the corresponding mean multiplicities measured in e+e− annihilations at center-of-mass energies comparable to the invariant mass of the hadronic system.

Measurements of the Total $\pi$ He and $p$ He Cross-sections and the Slopes of the Forward Diffraction Peak at Energies From 50-{GeV} to 300-{GeV}

Inspire Record 154079 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.34264

Differential cross sections for elastic scattering of pions and protons on helium have been measured at incident momenta ranging from 50 to 300 GeV/ c in the t -range 0.008 < | < | < 0.05 (GeV/ c ) 2 . Both recoil α-particles and forward particles were detected in this experiment. The experimental method provided an absolute normalization of the cross sections with an estimated precision of 1%. From the analysis of the data, the diffraction slope parameters and total cross sections have been obtained. The results are compared with Glauber model calculations.

Forward $K^*$+ (892) Production in $K^+ p \to \pi^+ K^0_S p$ at 12.7-{GeV}/$c$

We have measured 618 K + p → π + K S 0 p events at 12.7 GeV/ c incident lab momentum, mass range 790 ⩽ m π + K s 0 ⩽ 990 MeV and t range 0.01 ⩽ − t ⩽ 0.60 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The π + K S 0 mass spectrum is dominated by the K ∗+ (892) resonance and a Breit-Wigner fit yields a mass m = 893.5 ± 1.1 MeV and a width Γ = 33.2 ± 4.1 MeV which is much narrower than measured hitherto. The t distribution of K ∗+ (892) events shows a dip in the forward direction and an exponential fall off thereafter, consistent with dominance of helicity flip amplitudes. The spin density matrix is almost saturated by ρ 11 and ρ 1−1 which are very close to their maximum allowed value of 1 2 throughout the measured t range except in the very forward direction where ρ 00 and Re ρ 10 deviate from zero. Natural parity exchanges, therefore, dominate with unnatural parity exchanges being restricted to a small region in the forward direction. A Regge pole analysis of the differential cross sections of the present measurement in conjunction with previously measured total cross sections supports the f-coupled-pomeron hypothesis.

Backward $K^{*0}$ Production in $\pi^- p \to \Lambda^0 K^+ \pi^-$ Reaction at 9-{GeV}/$c$ and 12-{GeV}/$c$

We have analysed about 85 000 fast Λ 0 events, obtained in a fast proton triggered experiment performed at the CERN-Ω spectrometer at 9 and 12 GeV/ c incident π − beam. Nearly 2500 Λ 0 K + π − events have been isolated. We find strong production of quasi-two-body processes Λ 0 K ∗0 and ∑ ∗− K + consistent with u -channel hyperon exchange. Results on Λ 0 polarization, K ∗0 decay parameters and differential cross sections are given for Λ 0 K ∗0 (892) and Λ 0 K ∗0 (1430) final states. A comparison is made with the associated backward Λ 0 (1520) K ∗0 production seen in the four-prong reaction π − p→pK − K + π − obtained in the same experiment.

The reactionsπ−p→K0∑0(1385) andπ−p→K+∑−(1385) are studied at an incident momentum of 3.95 GeV/c using data from a high statistics bubble chamber experiment corresponding to approximately 90 events/μb. The total and differential cross sections and the density matrix elements of the Σ(1385) are presented. The results are compared with those obtained for the related processesπpp→K+∑+(1385) and\(K^ -p \to \pi ^ \mp\sum ^ \pm(1385)\) in this energy range. Evidence is presented for the existence of production mechanisms with exotic exchanges in thet channel.

The reactions π−p→K0Λ,K0Σ0 are studied at an incident momentum of 3.95 GeV/c using data from a high statistics bubble chamber experiment corresponding to ∼90 events/μb. The differential cross sections and hyperon polarizations are presented and compared with existing data from earlier electronic experiments.
