The backward elastic scattering reaction π − p → p π − at momenta 25 and 38 GeV/ c have been measured using a magnetic spectrometer with hybrid chambers. The experimental data on the dependence of the cross section d σ /d u on the momentum transfer u as well as the energy dependence d σ /d u at u = 0 are given.

The annihilation\(\bar pn\) → π−π0 has been studied in a D2 bubble chamber at several beam momenta between 1.0 and 1.6 GeV/c. The cross-section has been measured to be (110±15) μb at an average beam momentum of 1.3 GeV/c. The study of the angular distribution shows the presence of anL = 3 wave.

DIP AT -U = 0.4 TO 0.6 (REFLECTING DIP NEAR COS(THETA) = -0.8).
The two coherent reactions π+d → dπ+π+π− and π+d → → dπ+π+π+π0 are studied in the 2 m DBC at the incoming momentum of 11.7 GeV/c. The production cross-sections are measured:σ=(0.37±±0.06) mb andσ=(0.24±0.05) mb respectively. The two reactions are analysed in the different LPS configurations. The dσ/dt′ distribution for the two reactions displays the same exp[−At′] shape withA⋍37 (GeV/c)−2 in both cases, thus indicating that the differential cross-sections are dominated by the deuteron form factor. The coherent inclastic interaction contains the channel π+d → θ0π+d with a cross-sectionσ==(20±5) µb and a signal for the B+-meson of about 12 µb. The four-pion masses display structures below 2 GeV/c.

The results of a study of the reaction π-p→π-π-π+p at2 147 GeV/c carried out at the Fermilab Proportional Wire 30″ Bubble Chamber Hybrid Spectrometer are reported. More than 92% of the cross-section ((670±41) μb) for this reaction is contained in those for proton and pion diffraction dissociation. The cross-sections for pion diffraction events with three-pion invariant mass in given regions are in agreement with values obtained by extrapolation of fits to data at lower incidentpion momenta. ρ0π- events make an important contribution in the A1 and A2 mass regions, and the data are consistent with contributions from f0π- in the A3 mass region. The cross-section for proton diffraction events is in agreement with a smooth extrapolation of the data at lower momentum.

Results are presented concerning topological cross-sections and multiplicity distribution for a π−p experiment at 11.2 GeV/c. The statistics used are one-half of the total ones (106 bubble chamber pictures). Comparison with data at different energies and theoretical predictions are made, and satisfactory agreement is obtained.

Measurements have been made of the differential cross section for p p elastic scattering over a c.m. angular range −0.95 ⩽ cos θ ∗ ⩽ 0.93 at 21 incident antiproton momenta between 0.69 GeV/ c and 2.43 GeV/ c (c.m. energy 1.96–2.58 GeV). About 10 5 events were obtained at each momentum. The results are discussed primarily in terms of the formation of s -channel resonances in the T and U mass regions, and within the context of the optical model of Frahn and Venter.

The inclusive production of π and η mesons at 90° from proton-proton collisions has been measured at the CERN ISR at centre-of-mass energies between 23.5 and 62.4 GeV. The momentum correlation of charged particles emitted together with a large transverse momentum pion has also been studied, using two magnetic spectrometers each centred at 90°.

The reaction K + p→ Δ ++ (1236)+ anything is studied at beam momenta 8.2 and 16 GeV/ c and compared with other Δ ++ producing reactions. We find that the low-mass Δ ++ π − enhancement affects the shapes of Δ ++ inclusive distributions. The triple-Regge formula is found to be consistent with the data. Dual properties of this formula are successfully tested.

We report measurements of the invariant cross section in the forward hemisphere for inclusive photoproduction of π±, K±, p, and p¯ from hydrogen and deuterium with an incident photon energy of 18 GeV. A small amount of data was also taken at incident energies of 9 and 13 GeV. The measurements were made using the SLAC 20-GeV/c spectrometer, and a bremsstrahlung-subtraction technique was used to obtain the cross sections at the specified incident energy. The data are compared with those from lower-energy experiments and interpreted within the context of the Mueller-Regge model and the constituent-interchange model.

Transverse momentum distributions of λ o , λ o , and K o , produced in pp collisions at x = 0, have obtained at the CERN ISR. The K o yield is in agreement with published K + , K − results, obtained at this centre-of-mass energy (√ s ≈44 GeV). The results on λ o and λ o production obtained in this experiment are compared with results obtained at lower centre-of-mass energies.
