We have measured the reaction ee → μμ and ee → ττ at center of mass energies from 9.4 to 31.6 GeV. The production cross sections are in agreement with the predictions of quantum electrodynamics, resulting in cutoff parameter limits of 70–100 GeV at 95% c.l. The branching ratio for τ → μν ν has been determined as [1.78 ± 2.0 (statist.) ± 1.8(syst.)]% The existence of a new sequential heavy lepton with a mass <14.5 GeV is excluded at 95% c.l.

Performing a PWA of the π − π − π + system over the −t p/p range 0.2 to 0.4 GeV 2 we find evidence for a J P = 0 − , J G =1 − meson of mass 1342 ± 20 MeV and width 220 ±70 MeV decaying into ϵπ. This state is produced by natural parity exchange with a slope similar to that of elastic scattering. It can be interpreted as a radial excitation of the π meson (π′).

We have measured the differential cross-section for the process π-+p → π- + Δ+ in thet interval (1.74/3.5) (GeV/c)2 at 5 GeV/c. At the largestt-values, the cross-sections have the same magnitude as the π-p elastic cross-sections.

INCLUSIVE SIGMA+- (1385) PRODUCTION IN anti-p p INTERACTIONS AT 12-GeV/c

Z.Phys.C 10 (1981) 189-195, 1981.
Inspire Record 164260 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.16474

Inclusive production of∑±(1385) resonances is studied in\(\bar pp\) interactions at 12 GeV/c. The cross sections for∑+(1385)+cc and∑− are determined to be 251±38 μb and 123±30 μb, respectively. The inclusive spectra are presented as a function of Feynman x, c.m. rapidity and the squared transverse momentumpT2. Significant differences with the correspondingpp data are found in the longitudinal momentum distributions. The qualitative features of the production can be explained by simple quark ideas.

QUASIELASTIC OMEGA PHOTOPRODUCTION AT 50-GEV - 130-GEV

Phys.Rev.Lett. 47 (1981) 1782-1785, 1981.
Inspire Record 173081 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20625

A study of quasielastic ω photoproduction where the ω was detected in its π0γ decay mode is reported. The recoil proton's angle was detected with a nonmagnetic spectrometer allowing a full reconstruction of the final state. Differential cross sections for 0.1<|t|<1.2 GeV2 are presented, providing a test of the vector-meson dominance model over an extensive energy and momentum transfer range. The shape of the differential cross section agrees with that seen in both elastic γp and πp scattering as expected from this model.

Elastic Photon Proton Scattering in the 50-{GeV} - 130-{GeV} Range

Phys.Rev.Lett. 47 (1981) 1778-1781, 1981.
Inspire Record 173082 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20627

In the tagged-photon beam at Fermilab, differential cross sections were measured for the elastic scattering of photons on a liquid-hydrogen target. The diffractive forward peak was measured for photon energies between 50 and 130 GeV and |t| values between 0.07 and 1.20 (GeV/c)2. The shape of the diffraction peak is similar to that seen in π−p scattering. The magnitude is that predicted by the optical theorem.

SMALL MOMENTUM TRANSFER K- p CHARGE EXCHANGE SCATTERING AT 30-GeV/c

Nuovo Cim.A 64 (1981) 89-100, 1981.

The\(K^ -p \to \bar K^0 n\) charge exchange differential cross-section has been measured at 30 GeV/c with high statistical accuracy and high angular resolution. The experiment was made at the IHEP 70 GeV accelerator, by using a hodoscope hadron calorimeter to detect KL0. The cross-section shows a dip at small |t|, which indicates a dominance of spin-flip amplitudes in ρ and A2 exchanges in thet-channel.

The Effective Energy Dependence of the Charged Particle's Multiplicity in $P / \pi^+ / K^+$ Interactions on Protons at 147 GeV/c

Phys.Lett.B 103 (1981) 241-246, 1981.
Inspire Record 170358 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.6707

The energy dependence of the average of the charged multiplicity and its dispersion in π + /K + /p interaction on protons at 147 GeV/ c is found to be the same as in e + e − annihilations if an “effective energy” variable is used instead of the total energy. The effective energy S eff is defined as the invariant mass of all secondaries left after the two leading particles have been removed. Fitting the expression aS eff b to the average charge multiplicity 〈 n ch 〉, we find the power b to be in good agreement with the value of 0.25 predicted by Fermi's statistical model and by Landau's hydrodynamical model.

Diffractive Production of 3 $\pi$ States at 63-{GeV} and 94-{GeV}

The ACCMOR collaboration Daum, C. ; Hertzberger, L. ; Hoogland, W. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 182 (1981) 269-336, 1981.
Inspire Record 156369 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.34314

Diffractive production of the 3 π system has been studied at 63 and 94 GeV using a two magnet spectrometer with high, uniform acceptance. The total number of events used in the analysis is ∼600 000. The A 2 meson is shown to be diffractively produced. The existence of a resonant component in both the 1 + and 2 − enhancements is established and resonance parameters for the corresponding A 1 and A 3 mesons are given. There are several indications in the data of states which would correspond to radial excitations in the quark model.

Experimental Study of Neutral Current and Charged Current Neutrino Cross-Sections

The CHARM collaboration Jonker, M. ; Panman, J. ; Udo, F. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 99 (1981) 265, 1981.
Inspire Record 156267 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27136

Samples of 9200 muon-neutrino and 3800 muon-antineutrino interactions on nuclei were obtained with the fine-grain calorimeter of the CHARM Collaboration at the CERN 200 GeV narrow-band neutrino beam. The interactions were classified as either neutral-current or charged-current processes on an event-by-event basis. Neutral-current and charged-current cross sections in neutrino and antineutrino interactions are presented. From these results we deduce a statistically significant contribution of right-handed coupling to the neutral hadronic current, and a value of the electroweak mixing angle corresponding to sin 2 θ = 0.220 ± 0.014.
