A Measurement of Strong Coupling Constant $\alpha_s$ to Second Order for 14-{GeV} $\le \sqrt{s} \le$ 46.78-{GeV}

Phys.Rev.Lett. 54 (1985) 1750, 1985.
Inspire Record 208007 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20386

Using the Mark-J detector at the high-energy e+e− collider PETRA, we compare the data from hadron production with the complete second-order QCD calculation over the energy region 22 to 46.78 GeV. We determine the QCD parameter Λ=100±30−45+60 MeV which yields the strong-coupling constant αs=0.12±0.02 for s=44 GeV.

The $K^0 / \pi^-$ Ratio and Strangeness Suppression in Neutrino $p$ and Anti-neutrino $p$ Charged Current Interactions

Neutral kaon to negative pion production ratios fromvp and\(\bar vp\) charged current interactions in BEBC are presented and compared with LUND fragmentation model predictions. Good agreement is obtained with a strangeness suppression factor λ=0.203±0.014(stat)±0.010(sys). No evidence is seen for an energy dependence of λ in our kinematic region.

We have measured the differential cross section for pp and p̄p elastic scattering at √ s = 31, 53 and 62 GeV in the interval 0.05 < | t | < 0.85 GeV 2 at the CERN ISR using the Split Field Magnet detector. At 53 and 62 GeV, for 0.17 < | t | < 0.85 GeV 2 both pp and p̄p data show simple exponential behaviour in t ; at √ s = 31 GeV the data for 0.05 < | t | < 0.85 GeV 2 are consistent with a change in slope near | t | = 0.15 GeV 2 .

Study of Transverse Momenta of Charged Hadrons Produced in Neutrino $p$ and Anti-neutrino $p$ Charged Current Interactions

The Birmingham-CERN-London-Munich-Oxford collaboration Jones, G.T. ; Kennedy, B.W. ; Middleton, R.P. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 25 (1984) 121, 1984.
Inspire Record 201590 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.16211

Data from a neutrino and antineutrino hydrogen experiment with BEBC are used to investigate transverse properties of the produced charged hadrons. Measurements are presented on average transverse momenta of charged pions as functions of Feynman-x and the hadronic mass, on the transverse momentum flow within an event and on jet-related quantities. The main features of the data are well described by the LUND model. The data favour a version of the model in which soft gluon effects are included and the primordial transverse momentum of the quarks in the proton is small. Effects from 1st order QCD (hard gluon emission) are negligible.

Light ion collisions with carbon target at 4.2 GeV/c/N are studied. Pion multiplicity distributions, momentum and angular spectra are analysed. These data are described in terms of models assuming independent interactions of nucleons from the projectile nucleus with the target.

Search for New Particles in $e^+ e^-$ Annihilation From 39.79-{GeV} to 45.52-{GeV}

Phys.Rev.Lett. 53 (1984) 134, 1984.
Inspire Record 199819 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20429

We have searched for resonances in the reaction e+e−→hadrons, γγ, μμ, and ee, in the energy range 39.79<s<45.52 GeV, using the Mark J detector at PETRA. We obtain stringent upper limits on the production of toponium and particles postulated to explain Z0→leptonpair+γ events observed at the CERN p―p collider. We also set limits on the mass and coupling constant of excited electrons.
