Total and differential cross sections for photoproduction of η mesons from 12 C, 40 Ca, 93 Nb, and nat Pb have been obtained up to 790 MeV incident photon energy at the Mainz Microtron (MAMI) with the TAPS spectrometer. The absorption cross section σ ηN abs = (30 ± 2.5 ± 6)mb of η mesons in nuclear matter and the absorption length λ η = (2.0 ± 0.2 ± 0.4) fm are extracted. No significant depletion of the S 11 (1535) strength in the η photoproduction on nuclei is observed.

Precision measurements of anti-proton proton forward elastic scattering parameters in the 3.7-GeV/c to 6.2-GeV/c region

The E760 collaboration Armstrong, T.A. ; Bettoni, D. ; Bharadwaj, V. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 385 (1996) 479-486, 1996.
Inspire Record 431921 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28348

Differential cross sections for p p elastic scattering have been measured for very small momentum transfers at six different incident antiproton momenta in the range 3.7 to 6.2 GeV/c by the detection of recoil protons at scattering angles close to 90°. Forward scattering parameters σ T , b , and ϱ have been determined. For the ϱ-parameter, up to an order of magnitude higher level of precision has been achieved compared to that in earlier experiments. It is found that existing dispersion theory predictions are in disagreement with our results for the ϱ-parameter.

The p p ---> p p eta reaction near the kinematical threshold

Calén, H. ; Carius, S. ; Fransson, K. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 366 (1996) 39-43, 1996.
Inspire Record 427397 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28423

The pp → ppη reaction has been measured at six energies close to threshold, from 1258 MeV to 1352 MeV, using an internal cluster gas jet target in the CELSIUS storage ring. The η is detected through its decay photons, in an array of CsI detectors, and the forward-going protons are detected in a plastic scintillator spectrometer. A complete event reconstruction is obtained at the higher energies in the measured interval. The new data, together with earlier data, give an accurate determination of the energy dependence close to threshold. The influence of the η-proton FSI is seen in the total cross section data as well as in a Dalitz plot of the η-p invariant mass distributions.

Muon pair and vector meson cross-sections in p W and S U collisions at 200-GeV/nucleon

The NA38 collaboration Abreu, M.C. ; Baglin, C. ; Baldisseri, A. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 368 (1996) 230-238, 1996.
Inspire Record 428066 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28422

Muon pair production is studied in p - W and S  U collisions at 200 GeV per nucleon, as a function of transverse momentum P Tμμ . The inclusive ϱ + ω and Φ differential cross-sections dσ dP T are measured in the dimuon decay channel, for P T ≥ 0.6 GeV/c, in the central rapidity region, 3.0≤ y ≤ 4.0. Assuming the power law A-dependence σ = σ 0 ( A beam · A target ) α , the study of the integrated cross-sections for p - W and S  U collisions leads to α ϱ + ω = 1.00±0.02±0.07 and α Φ = 1.23±0.03±0.05, showing clear evidence of Φ enhancement in S  U interactions as compared to p - W collisions.

Neutral pion photoproduction from the proton near threshold

Fuchs, M ; Ahrens, J ; Anton, G ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 368 (1996) 20-25, 1996.
Inspire Record 428389 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28430

Differential and total cross sections for the photoproduction of neutral pions from the proton have been measured for incident photon energies from 140–270 MeV, using the photon spectrometer TAPS at the tagged photon beam of the 855 MeV Mainz Microtron. The energy dependence of the s- and p-wave multipoles close to threshold was deduced from a multipole fit and a multipole analysis. The extracted s-wave amplitude E 0+ at threshold is found to be significantly smaller than the prediction of the classical low energy theorems, but is in reasonable agreement with the chiral perturbation theory.

Anti-baryon production in sulphur nucleus collisions at 200-GeV per nucleon

The NA35 collaboration Alber, T. ; Appelshäuser, H. ; Bächler, J. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 366 (1996) 56-62, 1996.
Inspire Record 427399 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28428

Antiproton production near midrapidity has been studied in central collisions of 32 S with sulphur, silver and gold nuclei at 200 GeV per nucleon. The measured transverse mass distributions can be described by an exponential with inverse slope parameters of about 200 MeV, similar to those obtained from Λ spectra. The rapidity density increases weakly with the target mass, ranging from 0.4 to 0.7. The ratio Λ p near midrapidity is approximately 1.4 on average, significantly larger than the corresponding ratio observed in proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions.

Z.Phys.C 71 (1996) 65-74, 1996.
Inspire Record 416847 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.12108

Results of the total cross section differenceΔσL in anp transmission experiment at 1.19, 2.49 and 3.65 GeV incident neutron beam kinetic energies are presented. Measurements were performed at the Synchrophasotron of the Laboratory of High Energies of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna. Results were obtained with a polarized beam of free quasi-monochromatic neutrons passing through the new Dubna frozen spin proton target. The beam and target polarizations were oriented longitudinally. The present results were obtained at the highest energies of free polarized neutrons that can be reached at present. They extend the energy range of existing results from PSI, LAMPF and Saclay measured between 0.066 and 1.10 GeV. The new results are compared withΔσL(pn) data determined as a difference betweenΔσL(pd) andΔσL(pp) ANL-ZGS measurements. The values ofΔσL for the isospin stateI=0 were deduced using knownpp data.

Projectile stopping in nucleus nucleus and hadron nucleus collisions at 4.2-GeV/c and 10-GeV/c per nucleon

Z.Phys.C 72 (1996) 613-617, 1996.
Inspire Record 432851 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.14315

The collisions ofp,2H,4He and C with carbon and tantalum nuclei at 4.2 GeV/c per nucleon as well as the collisionsp-C andp-Ta at 10 GeV/c from 2-m propane bubble chamber have been studied. New results on nuclear stopping have been obtained from the examination of proton rapidity distributions and average rapidity of leading protons for collisions of various degree of centrality: our study points out that a proton projectile is fully stopped in the centralp-Ta collisions at 4.2 GeV/c but only partly stopped at 10 Gev/c. The proton multiplicity in the centralp-Ta collisions at 10 GeV/c can be described by the binomial distribution,P(n), which expresses the probability that the projectile meetsn protons among the nucleons being along the diameter of a target nucleus.

An experiment performed at Fermilab used double-arm calorimeter triggers to study di-jet production by 400 GeV protons and 200 GeVπ− mesons incident on liquid hydrogen. The observed ratio of positive to negative leading particles in the jets was compared forpp andπp production using a tree level parton scattering model. The results are moderately sensitive to the form of the pion gluon distribution function and yieldx g(x)⋍(1−x)2.75±0.40±0.75.

Total and differential cross-sections of p + p ---> pi+ + d reactions down to 275-keV above threshold

The GEM collaboration Drochner, M. ; Ernst, J. ; Fortsch, S ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 77 (1996) 454-457, 1996.
Inspire Record 431032 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19580

The p+p→π++d reaction is studied at excess energies between 0.275 and 3.86 MeV. Differential and total cross section were measured employing a magnetic spectrometer with nearly 4π acceptance in the center of mass system. The measured anisotropies between 0.008 and 0.29 indicate that the p wave is not negligible even so close to threshold. The data are compared to other data offering no evidence for charge symmetry breaking or time reversal violation. The s-wave and p-wave contributions at threshold are deduced.
