PT(P=3,NAME=OUT)**2 - MEAN SQUARE OF THE PROJECTION OF THE ASSOCIATED PARTICLE TRANSVERSE MOMENTUM ONTO THE NORMAL TO THE TRIGGER PARTICLE PRODUCTION PLANE.
360 GeV/c proton interactions with aluminium (Al) and gold (Au) targets are studied using the European Hybrid Spectrometer (EHS) equipped with the Rapid Cycling Bubble Chamber (RCBC). Multiplicities, rapidity distributions and correlations between leading and other produced particles are presented and compared with Monte Carlo calculations based on the multi-chain and Lund models.

Using a quark-diquark fragmentation model, in which either the Field-Feynman or the Lund model is coupled with a quark-diquark distribution function, we study transverse momentum distributions,pT, for the inclusive reactionspp→hadron +anything at 360 GeV/c. We find that a primordial mean transverse momentum 〈kT〉≃0.4 GeV/c can well reproduce thepT2 distributions of charged hadrons, π0,Ks0, Λ0,K* and Σ* and the Feynmanx−pT correlations. We confirm that a diquark in a proton plays an important rôle in reproducing thex−pT correlation of Λ0.

Measurements ofKs0, Λ and\(\bar \Lambda \) production in π− nucleus (C, Cu, Pb) interactions are presented. The experiment was carried out with the streamer chamber spectrometer RISK using a π− beam of ∼40 GeV/c and a trigger requiring a secondary charged particle with transverse momentum above 1.1 GeV/c. Production cross sections, relative production rates and distributions of Feynmanx and transverse momentum squared as well as correlations between theV0 and the trigger particle are presented. The results are compared and found to be in agreement withKs0, Λ and\(\bar \Lambda \) data from untriggered π−p and π−C interactions, except for the relative production rate of antilambdas which is about to times larger in high-pt collisions. Our results can be well interpreted within the dual topological unitarization model.

Interactions of 40 GeV/c πp-,K− and\(\bar p\) on Li, C, S, Cu, CsI and Pb were studied with the RISK-streamer chamber spectrometer. We present multiplicities of negatively charged particles, as well as of protons, and the correlations between them. The normalized mean multiplicity of negative particles,R−, depends on\(\bar v\), the average number of inelastic collisions as\(R^ -= (0.73 \pm 0.04) + (0.34 \pm 0.02)\bar v\). The dependence of the normalized dispersion of negative particles,D−/<N−>, on the number of protons favours independent collision models and contradicts the coherent tube picture. The excess of fast positive particles behaves asA0.4 and shows, for the heavier nuclei, a clear correlation with identified protons.
