We have measured inclusive electron production in multiprong events produced by e+e− annihilation in the center-of-mass energy range 3.9-7.4 GeV. We find the electron momentum spectra are consistent with the electrons coming mainly from decays of charmed particles, with a smaller contribution from decays of the τ lepton. From our data we calculate the average branching ratio for charmed particles to decay into an electron plus additional particles to be (8.2±1.9)%.

Proton-proton and proton-deuteron elastic scattering has been measured for incident laboratory energy from 50 to 400 GeV; minimum |t| values were, for p−p, 0.0005 (GeV/c)2, and for p−d, 0.0008 (GeV/c)2. From the differential cross sections we have determined the ratios of the real to imaginary parts of the forward scattering amplitude, ρpp and ρpd, for p−p and p−d scattering. Using a Glauber approach and a sum-of-exponentials form factor we obtain ρpn for p−n scattering.

FROM GLAUBER ANALYSIS. THE SYSTEMATIC ERRORS DUE TO THE UNCERTAINTY IN THE DEUTERON FORM FACTOR ARE COMPARABLE WITH THE STATISTICAL ERRORS.
The total cross section for e + e − annihilation into hadronic final states between 3.6 and 5.2 GeV was measured by the nonmagnetic inner detector of DASP, which has similar trigger and detection efficiencies for photons and charged particles. The measured difference in R = σ had / σμμ between 3.6 GeV and 5.2 GeV is ΔR = 2.1 ± 0.3. We observe three peaks at cm energies of 4.04, 4.16 and 4.417 GeV, the parameters of which, when interpreted as resonances, are given.

We have analyzed backward meson production in the reaction π − p → p f π + π − π − at 9 GeV/ c and 12 GeV/ c incident π − momenta, from an experiment performed at the CERN Ω Spectrometer using a fast proton (p f ) trigger device. We find strong production of quasi-two-body processes N ∗ ϱ and N ∗ f with a production mechanism consistent with u -channel nucleon exchange. At a lower level, we observe N ∗ π processes with a 3-body baryon decay through Δ(1232)π. In the (3π) − system, we find evidence for A 1 − and clear A 2 − backward production with similar cross sections (≈0.5 μb).

We present the results and the analysis of a high-statistics experiment to study A 2 and g production in the reaction π − p→K − K S 0 p at 10 GeV/ c . In each resonance region we perform a moment analysis of the data, and from the moments we determine the production amplitudes as a function of t . We find A 2 production proceeds dominantly by natural-parity (pomeron and f) exchange. We compare A 2 and diffractive K ∗ (1420) production. We find g production proceeds by π and ω exchanges; we determine the g → K K branching ratio.

We present measured hadron energy distributions for the reactions ν(ν¯)+N→ν(ν¯)+hadrons at high energy, as well as for the similar charged-current interactions. Insofar as possible, the determination of these distributions avoids any a priori assumptions about either the neutral-current or the charged-current interactions. We further analyze the neutral-current distributions within the framework of specific models, particularly the scaling model, to obtain a positive-helicity component P=0.36±0.10, which lies between pure V−A and pure V or A, and a coupling strength of g0=0.31±0.03 relative to the charged-current interaction. These coupling parameters agree well with the predictions of the Weinberg-Salam model with sin2θW=0.33±0.07.

Results on backward (3 π ) - system produced in π - p→p f π + π - π - reaction at 9 and 12 GeV/ c are given. The ϱ 0 π - mass spectra show two clear signals at 1050 MeV (A 1 region) and 1303 MeV (A - 2 ). The width of the enhancement in the A 1 region (195±32 MeV) is narrower than found in diffractive experiments. Total backward cross sections for those signals are of the same order of magnitude (∼0.5 μb).

We perform an amplitude analysis of 10 GeV/ c π − p → K − K S 0 p data as a function of K − K 0 mass from threshold up to 2 GeV. We find that the A 2 and g resonances are produced dominantly by natural and unnatural parity exchange, respectively, and we determine their resonance parameters. We present further evidence for the I = 1, 4 + state A 2 ∗ (1900), in particular by isolating interference effects. The structure of S-wave K − K 0 production suggests an I = 1, 0 + state just below 1300 MeV of width about 250 MeV.
