Based on a sample of 22 four-prong D 0 / D 0 decays produced in hydrogen by 360 GeV/ c π − , we present the following new results: mean lifetime τ = (3.5 −0.9 +1.4 ) x 10 −13 s ; production cross section for x F > 0.0, σ = (10.3 ± 3.5) ωb ; the D → K ± π ± π + π − branching ratio = (7.1 ± 2.5)%.

Quark and Diquark Fragmentation Into Neutral Strange Particles as Observed in Muon - Proton Interactions at 280-{GeV}

Phys.Lett.B 145 (1984) 156-162, 1984.
Inspire Record 202660 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30512

The production of K 0 s, Λs and Λ s has been studied in a 280 GeV muon-proton scattering experiment with almost complete coverage of all kinematic regions. A study is made of the dependence of the multiplicities on the hadronic centre of mass energy, W , and of the Feynman x distributions. It is found that K 0 and Λ production is mostly central and increases strongly with W , whereas Λ production comes mainly from the remnant target system and is only weakly W dependent.

Search for New Heavy Quarks in $e^+ e^-$ Collisions Up to 46.78-{GeV} Center-of-mass Energy

The CELLO collaboration Behrend, H.J. ; Burger, J. ; Criegee, L. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 144 (1984) 297-301, 1984.
Inspire Record 202783 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30514

The total e + e − annihilation onto hadron has been measured at CM energies between 33.00 and 36.72 GeV and between 38.66 and 46.78 GeV in steps of 20 and 30 MeV respectively. The average of the ratio R = σ ( e + e − → hadrons )/ σ is 〈 R 〉=3.85±0.12 and 〈 R 〉=4.04±0.10 for the two energy ranges. The systematic error on 〈 R 〉 is 0.31. Both values are consistent with the expectation for the known coloured quarks u, d, s, c and b. No evidence was found for the production of new quarks. If the largest fluctuation in R is interpreted as a narrow resonance, it corresponds to a product of the electronic width and the hadronic branching ratio Γ ee B had >2.9 keV at the 95% confidence level, well below the value expected for the toponium vector ground state with charge 2 3 e . The observed number of aplanar final states rules out the continuum production of a a new heavy flavour with pointlike cross section up to a CM energy of 45.4 GeV for a quarck charge of 1 3 e . and up to 46.6 GeV for 2 3 e at the 95% confidence level.

Measurement of Jet Production Properties at the CERN anti-p p Collider

Phys.Lett.B 144 (1984) 283-290, 1984.
Inspire Record 202658 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30516

Jet production properties at s = 540 GeV have been measured in the UA2 detector at the CERN p p Collider. Results on the total transverse momentum of the jet system, on the parton density in the nucleon (structure function) and on the two-jet angular distributions are reported. The data are compared with QCD predictions and extrapolations from lower energy experiments.

Study of the $\rho^\prime$ (1600) Mass Region Using $\gamma p \to \pi^+ \pi^- p$ at 20-{GeV}

We have observed the π+π− decay of the ρ′(1600) in the production reaction γp→ρ′p at 20 GeV. Using a calculation which takes into account the interference of the ρ′ with the ρ(770) and a Drell background, we find good evidence that this resonance is a radial excitation of the ρ(770). The background interference strongly distorts the angular distributions predicted by a purely s-channel helicity-conserving production mechanism. We measure m0=(1.55±0.07) GeV/c2 and Γ0=(0.28−0.08+0.03) GeV/c2.

Measurements of Energy Correlations in $e^+ e^- \to$ Hadrons

Z.Phys.C 25 (1984) 231, 1984.
Inspire Record 202784 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.1998

Energy-energy-correlations (EEC) have been measured with the JADE detector at c.m. energies of 14 GeV, 22 GeV and in the region 29 GeV<Ecm<36 GeV. Corrected results are presented of EEC and their asymmetry, which can be directly compared to theoretical predictions. At 〈Ecm〉=34 GeV a comparison with second order QCD predictions yields good agreement for the string model fragmentation resulting in a value of the strong coupling constant αs=0.165±0.01 (stat.). The independent fragmentation models, which yield values of αs between 0.10 and 0.15 depending on the treatment of energy and momentum conservation and of the gluon splitting, do not provide a satisfactory description of the data over the full angular range.

Partial Wave Analysis of Coherent 3 $\pi$ Production on Nuclei at 200-{GeV}

We have carried out a partial-wave analysis (PWA) of three-pion systems produced in the coherent dissociation of π+ mesons on nuclear targets. The data have been analyzed for copper and lead targets at an incident π+ energy of 202.5 GeV. This PWA provides further evidence for resonant contributions to JP=1+ and 0− waves at 3π masses below 1.5 GeV, which can be plausibly identified with A1 and π′ mesons. The contribution from electromagnetic production of the A2 has also been extracted, and an estimate for Coulomb production and radiative width of the A1 has been obtained.
