The inclusive production of charged hadrons has been measured in αα and αp collisions at nucleon-nucleon c.m. energies (√s nn )of 31 and 44 GeV, respectively, for transverse momenta p T up to 5 GeV/ c in the central rapidity ( y ) region. at high p T the yields are consistent with being 4 times and 16 times highere than the ones in pp interactions at y =0, for αp and αα interactions, respectively. However, an enhancement over these factors, as expected from an earlier FNAL experiment, cannot be ruled out.

The inclusive production of π ± mesons in e + e − annihilation has been measured at c.m. energies of 14, 22 and 34 GeV for pion momenta between 0.3 ans 10 GeV/ c . The fraction of pions among the charged hadrons is above 90% at 0.4 GeV/ c and decreases to about 50% at high momenta. The scaled cross sections ( s β ) d σ d x at 14, 22 and 34 GeV as well as the 5.2 GeV data from DASP have a rather similar x dependence. After integration over the x range from 0.2 to 0.6 the cross sections indicate a monotonic decrease with increasing centre-of-mass energy.

The ration R = σ (e + e − → hadrons) σ μμ was measured between 12.0 and 36.7 GeV c.m. energy W with a precision of typically ± 5.2%. R is found to be constant with an average R = 4.01 ± 0.03 (stat) ± (syst.) for W ⩾ 14 GeV. Quarks are found to be point-like, the mass parameter describing a possible quark form-factor being larger than 186 GeV. Fits including QCD corrections and a weak neutral-current contribution are presented.

Large transverse energy cross sections of 300 GeV/ c pions and protons on hydrogen have been measured with a segmented calorimeter covering the central rapidity region −0.88 < y < 0.67 and 2 π in azimuth. The selected events show large multiplicities and no jet-like event structure. Processes more complicated than the scattering of two constituents appear to dominate these inelastic collisions.

Production of ϱ 0 , K ∗0 , K ∗0 , and φ have been measured in proton-proton collisions at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings (ISR) at low p T in the central region. The transverse mass spectra are well described by exp (− aμ T ), with a = −6.4±0.2 GeV −1 . The cross sections for d σ/ d y| y=0 are 6.5±0.8±1.2 mb for ϱ 0 , 1.9±0.3±0.3 mb for K ∗) , 1.9±03±03 mb for K ∗0 , and 60.±0.12±0.13 mb for φ , where the first error is statistical and the second is sytematic.

The polarization for the K + n elastic and charge-exchange reactions was measured at the momenta of 1.06, 1.28, 1.39 and 1.49 GeV/ c . The reaction π − p→ π 0 π 0 n has been measured with a 648 channel hodoscope spectrometer for the detection of the four γ's from the π 0 decays. The π 0 π 0 D-wave is fully compatible with the f 0 contribution as it is determined in high-statistics π + π − experiments. The magnitude of the π 0 π 0 S-wave and the cosinus of its phase angle (relative to the known D-wave) are determined from fits to the π 0 π 0 angular distributions. Argand diagrams for the I = 0 amplitude S 0 are given for the range 1000 to 1500 MeV/ c 2 . Two solutions exist. One exceeds the unitarity limit above 1200 MeV/ c 2 . The other remains within the unitarity limit and is nearly elastic up to 1450 MeV/ c 2 . It indicates an S 0 wave resonance around 1300 MeV/ c 2 .

We have measured, at an average centre-of-mass energy of 34.22 GeV a forward-backward charge asymmetry in the reaction e + e − → μ + μ − of value −0.161 ± 0.032. This demonstrates the existence of an axial vector neutral current with coupling strength of g e a g μ a =0.53 ± 0.10. We have also obtained a limit on the vector coupling strength of g e v g μ v <0.12. The Weinberg angle is found to be sin 2 θ W =0.29 +0.09 −0.11 . From the reaction e + e − → τ + τ − we have found g e a g τ a <0.34, g e v g τ v <0.55.

The polarization parameters of the pn elastic scattering were measured at beam momenta between 1.30 and 1.82 GeV/c. The results are discussed in comparison with the partial-wave analysis of Hashimoto and Hoshizaki.
