The OMEGA Photon collaboration Apsimon, R.J. ; Atkinson, M. ; Baake, M. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 43 (1989) 63, 1989.
Inspire Record 276890 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.15435

Single charged-particle inclusive cross sections for photon, pion and kaon beams on hydrogen at the CERN-SPS are presented as functions ofpT andxF. Data cover the range 0.0<pT<5.0 GeV/c and 0.0<xF<1.0 at incident momenta from 70 to 170 GeV/c. The comparison between photon- and hadron-induced data indicates a relative excess of particles withpT>1.6 GeV/c for the photon-induced data. Using the hadron-induced data to estimate the hadronic behaviour of the photon, the difference distributions and ratios of cross sections are a measure of the contribution of the point-like photon interactions. The data are compared with QCD calculations and show broadly similar features.

Central Collisions of 800-{GeV} Protons With Ag / Br Nuclei in Nuclear Emulsion

The BATON ROUGE-KRAKOW-MOSCOW-TASHKENT collaboration Abduzhamilov, A. ; Barbier, L.M. ; Chernova, L.P. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 39 (1989) 86-91, 1989.
Inspire Record 280844 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.3813

Central collisions of 800-GeV protons with the heavy components of nuclear emulsion, Ag107 and Br80, have been investigated to determine the characteristics of small-impact-parameter collisions and, by comparison with the analysis of inclusive proton-emulsion inelastic interactions and inelastic proton-nucleon collisions, to study the dependence of the interaction process on the mean number of intranuclear collisions 〈ν〉. The data are also compared with the results obtained in proton-emulsion collisions, both central and inclusive, at 200 GeV. The variations in the secondary-particle multiplicities and the normalized pseudorapidity density correlate with 〈ν〉 and demonstrate that proton-nucleus interactions, both central and inclusive, can be described adequately by the incoherent superposition of proton-nucleon collisions.

Inspire Record 276661 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.12557

We present results on a high statistics study of the proton structure functions F 2 ( x , Q 2 ) and R = σ L / σ T measured in deep inelastic scattering of muons on a hydrogen target. The analysis is based on 1.8 × 10 6 events after all cuts, recorded at beam energies of 100, 120, 200 and 280 GeV and covering a kinematic range 0.06 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.80 and 7 GeV 2 ⩽ Q 2 ⩽260 GeV 2 . At small x , we find R to be different from zero in agreement with predictions of perturbative QCD.

MEASUREMENT OF ANALYZING POWER IN FORWARD ANGLE FOR ELASTIC p d SCATTERING AT 3.5-GeV

Ohmori, C. ; Horikawa, N. ; Ishida, Y. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 230 (1989) 27-30, 1989.
Inspire Record 277083 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29770

The analyzing power for elastic pd scattering at 3.5 GeV has been measured in the region 0.1⩽−t⩽1.5 (GeV/ c ) 2 , using the polarized proton beam at KEK. The angular distribution shows a behavior similar to that in the lower energy region. It is reproduced fairly well by the predictions of a multiple scattering model based on the Glauber theory.

Phys.Lett.B 221 (1989) 221-226, 1989.
Inspire Record 276743 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29825

The reaction pp→p f (K + K − K + K − )p s in which the K + K − K + K − system is centrally produced has been studied at 300 GeV/ c . φφ production has been observed and the ratio σ (φK + K − )/ σ ( φφ ) is 1.0±0.3. The cross section for central production of φφ is found to be the same at 300 GeV/ c and 85 GeV/ c . An angular analysis of the φφ system favours J P =2 + over 0 − .

One-dimensional and Two-dimensional Analysis of the Factorial Moments in 200-{GeV}/nucleon $P$, $^{16}$O and $^{32}$S Interactions With Ag / Br Nuclei

Phys.Rev.C 40 (1989) R2449-R2453, 1989.
Inspire Record 285668 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.26218

Scaled factorial moments, corrected for the shape of the single-particle pseudorapidity distribution, are analyzed in pseudorapidity and in two-dimensional (pseudorapidity and azimuth angle) space. An intermittent, power-law growth of the moments with decreasing bin size is found, with two-dimensional analysis revealing a much stronger effect than for one-dimensional for nucleus-nucleus data. The intermittent patterns are more evident for proton-nucleus than for nucleus-nucleus collisions, with the heaviest nucleus, S32, showing the weakest effect.

Phys.Rev.C 40 (1989) 1081-1084, 1989.
Inspire Record 287802 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.26182

Charged pion production induced by 201 MeV protons on Ni58 and Ni64 has been studied. The double differential cross sections have been measured over a wide angular range. Different behavior of the angular distribution is observed for low and high energy pions. The yield of positive pions shows a pronounced forward peaked component. The deduced total production yields are about the same for (p,π+) on both isotopes whereas that for (p64,π−) is twice as large as for (p58,π−).

Measurements of the $u$ Valence Quark Distribution Function in the Proton and $u$ Quark Fragmentation Functions

The European Muon collaboration Arneodo, M. ; Arvidson, A. ; Aubert, J.J. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 321 (1989) 541-560, 1989.
Inspire Record 276746 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33218

A new determination of the u valence quark distribution function in the proton is obtained from the analysis of identified charged pions, kaons, protons and antiprotons produced in muon-proton and muon-deuteron scattering. The comparison with results obtained in inclusive deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering provides a further test of the quark-parton model. The u quark fragmentation functions into positive and negative pions, kaons, protons and antiprotons are also measured.

Measurement of the Spin Correlation Parameters A(00kk) and A(00sk) in $P P$ Elastic Scattering From 0.88-{GeV} to 2.4-{GeV}

Fontaine, J.M. ; Perrot, F. ; Bystricky, J. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 321 (1989) 299-310, 1989.
Inspire Record 284692 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33222

The spin correlation parameters A 00 kk and A 00 sk were measured at 0.874, 0.934, 1.095, 1.295, 1.596, 1.796, 2.096, and 2.396 GeV, using the SATURNE II polarized proton beam and tha Saclay frozen spin polarized target. The present results for beam-target spin correlations obtained during measurements of three-spin index observables confirm, in particular, relatively large positive values of A 00 sk at certain energies and angles, as was shown in previously published data from a dedicated experiment.

Measurement of the Parameters $N$(0skn), $D$(0n0n) and $K$(0sk0) in $P P$ Elastic Scattering Between 0.84-{GeV} and 2.1-{GeV}

Lac, C.D. ; Ball, J. ; Bystricky, J. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 321 (1989) 269-283, 1989.
Inspire Record 284690 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33254

The spin-dependent observables N 0 s ″ kn , D 0 n 0 n and K 0 s ″ k 0 in pp elastic scattering were measured at nine energies between 0.84 and 2.1 GeV using the SATURNE II polarized proton beam and the Saclay frozen spin polarized target. The beam polarization was oriented longitudinally and the target polarization was oriented vertically. Precession of the recoil particle spin in the target holding field introduces a small contribution from other parameters. The present results for K 0 s ″ k 0 and D 0 n 0 n agree with our previous measurements of the same observables carried out in different beam and target spin configurations as well as with previously existing measurements. The observable N 0 s ″ kn had not been measured previously above 0.58 GeV. Below 1.3 GeV our data are compared with the predictions of the Saclay-Geneva phase shift analysis. The new results will considerably affect the phase shift analysis solutions and will contribute to their extension towards higher energies.
