The polarization of 103 211 Ω− hyperons produced in 800 GeV proton-beryllium inclusive reactions has been measured. Between 0.3<xF<0.7 and 0.5<pt<1.3 GeV/c, the Ω− polarization is found to be consistent with zero, with a mean value of -0.01±0.01 at 〈xF〉=0.5 and 〈pt〉=0.95 GeV/c. This behavior is similar to that of Λ¯0, which also does not have any quarks in common with the incident proton, but is different from Ξ¯+, which is significantly polarized in the same kinematic region.

Inclusive J / psi, psi (2S) and b quark production in anti-p p collisions at s**(1/2) = 1.8-TeV

The CDF collaboration Abe, F. ; Amidei, Dante E. ; Anway, Carol E. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 69 (1992) 3704-3708, 1992.
Inspire Record 340126 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19780

Inclusive J/ψ and ψ(2S) production has been studied in p¯p collisions at √s =1.8 TeV using 2.6±0.2 pb−1 of data taken with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The products of production cross section times branching fraction were measured as functions of PT for J/ψ→μ+μ− and ψ(2S)→μ+μ−. In the kinematic range PT>6 GeV/c and ‖η‖≤0.5 we get σ(p¯p→J/ψ X)B(J/ψ→μ+μ−) =6.88±0.23(stat)−1.08+0.93(syst) nb, and σ(p¯p→ψ(2S)X)B(ψ(2S)→μ+μ−) =0.232±0.051(stat)−0.032+0.029(syst)nb. From these values we calculate the inclusive b-quark production cross section.

Proton and deuteron f2 structure functions in deep inelastic muon scattering

The New Muon collaboration Amaudruz, P. ; Arneodo, M. ; Arvidson, A. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 295 (1992) 159-168, 1992.
Inspire Record 338074 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29003

The structure functions F p 2 and F d 2 measured by deep inelastic muon scattering at incident energies of 90 and 280 GeV are presented. These measurements cover a large kinematic range, 0.006⩽ x ⩽0.6 and 0.5⩽ Q 2 ⩽55GeV 2 , and include the first precise data at small x , where large scaling violations are observed. The data agree with earlier results from SLAC and BCDMS but exhibit differences with respect to those of EMC-NA2. Extrapolations to small x of recent phenomenological parton distributions are shown to disagree with the present results.

Kaon production in 200-GeV/nucleon nucleus-nucleus collisions

The HELIOS collaboration Akesson, T. ; Almehed, S. ; Angelis, A.L.S. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 296 (1992) 273-278, 1992.
Inspire Record 338072 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28995

Results from the HELIOS External Spectrometer on kaon production in 200 GeV/ A S + W and p + W collisions are presented. The K π ratios are compared with results from a lower beam energy and are found to be remarkably similar. Evidence for secondary production of K + by meson-baryon rescattering is reviewed. Our results at y = 1.0–1.5 are compared with neutral strange particle results at midrapidity.

Measurement of the e+ e- --> b anti-b and e+ e- --> c anti-c forward backward asymmetries at the Z0 resonance

The L3 collaboration Adriani, O. ; Aguilar-Benitez, M. ; Ahlen, S. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 292 (1992) 454-462, 1992.
Inspire Record 339089 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29017

We have measured the forward-backward asymmetry in e + e − → b b and e + e − → c c processes using hadronic events containing muons or electrons. The data sample corresponds to 4100000 hadronic decays of the Z 0 . From a fit to the single lepton and dilepton p and p T spectra, we determine A b b =0.086±0.015±0.007 and A c c =0.083±0.038±0.027 at the effective center-of-mass energy √ s =91.24 GeV. These measurements yield a value of the electroweak mixing angle sin 2 θ w =0.2336±0.0029 .

Cross-sections and charge asymmetries for e+ e- ---> mu+ mu- and e+ e- ---> tau+ tau- reactions at s**(1/2) = 52-GeV - 61.4-GeV

The TOPAZ collaboration Howell, B. ; Koltick, D.S. ; Tauchi, T. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 291 (1992) 206-212, 1992.
Inspire Record 336076 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29061

The process e + e − → μ + μ − and e + e − have been studied in the energy range s =52−61.4 GeV , using the TOPAZ detector at TRISTAN. From an integrated luminosity of L = 74.0 pb −1 , lowest-order cross sections and forward-backward asymmetries are measured to be 〈σ μμ 〈 = 25.4±0.9±1.2 pb , 〈A μμ 〉 = (−32.2±3.1±1.1)%, 〈σ ττ 〉 = 27.1±1.1±1.2 pb , 〈A ττ 〉 = (−33.9±4.9±1.0)% , at an average energy of s 〉=57.87 GeV . From the measured assymetry we derive axial vector couplings of a c a μ =0.96±0.09±0.01,and a c a τ =1.01±0.14±0.01±. These results are consistent with standard model expectations. Lower limits in the range 2–5 TeV (95%CL)are placed on compositeness scale parameters for leptons.

The Dijet angular distribution in p anti-p collisions at s**(1/2) = 1.8-TeV

The CDF collaboration Abe, F. ; Amidei, Dante E. ; Anway, Carol E. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 69 (1992) 2896-2900, 1992.
Inspire Record 336778 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19809

The dijet angular distribution is measured in the Collider Detector at Fermilab. This measurement covers higher mass ranges and larger scattering angles than previously possible. Good agreement is observed between the data and both leading-order [O(αs2)] and next-to-leading order [O(αs3)] QCD calculations. A limit on quark compositeness of Λc>1.0 TeV is obtained.

Phys.Rev.Lett. 69 (1992) 2337-2340, 1992.
Inspire Record 338054 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.42562

We have performed a search for the 1P1 state of charmonium resonantly formed in p¯p annihilations, close to the center of gravity of the 3PJ states. We report results from the study of the J/ψ+π0 and J/ψ+2π final states. We have observed a statistically significant enhancement in the p¯+p→J/ψ+π0 cross section at √s ≃3526.2 MeV. This enhancement has the characteristics of a narrow resonance of mass, total width, and production cross section consistent with what is expected for the 1P1 state. In our search we have found no candidates for the reactions p¯+p→J/ψ+π0+π0 and p¯+p→J/ψ+π++π−.

A Measurement of jet shapes in p anti-p collisions at s**(1/2) = 1.8-TeV

The CDF collaboration Abe, F. ; Amidei, Dante E. ; Anway, Carol E. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 70 (1993) 713-717, 1993.
Inspire Record 340125 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19744

We present a measurement of jet shapes in p¯p collisions at √s =1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron using the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). Qualitative agreement is seen with the predictions of recent next-to-leading [O(αs3)] calculations and with leading logarithm QCD based Monte Carlo simulations. The dependence of the jet shape on transverse energy is studied.
