Inclusive production of Δ ++ (1232) with >| t p, Δ ++>|<0.6 (GeV/ c ) 2 is studied in 32 GeV/ c K + p interactions. A systematic comparison with the reaction K + p→pX for >| t p,p>| < 0.6 (GeV/ c ) 2 is made. The production properties of the Δ ++ (1232), of associated π + , π − and K 0 production and of the recoiling system X 0 are investigated in detail. The polarization of the Δ ++ and the energy dependence of the total K + π − cross sections, determined by a Chew-Low extrapolation, are presented and discussed.

The inclusive production ofK*±(890), ρρ(770), ω0(780) andf0(1,270) mesons is studied in\(\bar pp\) experiment at 32GeV/c in the MIRABELLE bubble chamber by the analysis of (K0π±) and (π+π−) invariant mass distributions. The inclusive cross sections are σ(K*±)=2.45±0.30 mb, σ(ρ0)=8.8 ±0.9 mb, σ(ω+)≃6.2 mb, and σ(f0)=2.2±0.7 mb. The C.M. longitudinal distribution of theK*±(890) is slightly shifted to the primary particles fragmentation regions; the ρ0 is produced more centrally. The studied mesons alone are responsible for 40% of final state poins. The production features of various resonances are compared with quark models predictions.

Results are presented on the inclusive production of π± mesons and protons in\(\bar p\)p interactions at an incident antiproton momentum of 32 GeV/c in the MIRABELLE bubble chamber, based on a sample of 55,000 inelastic events. The spectra of π+(π−) andp(\(\bar p\)) are separated in the whole kinematically admitted region of phase space by a statistical method. The semi-inclusive and inclusive cross sections and the main average characteristics of π andp production are calculated. The invariant differential cross sections are studied as functions of the Fevnman scaling variablex, the rapidity and the transverse momentum. Thex distribution of π± mesons in the proton fragmentation region does not show any significant contribution from quark exchange or annihilation processes. A possible contribution of hard quark scattering on mesons or baryons is observed for large transverse momenta.

New data on the inclusive production of the non-strange resonances ϱ0(770), ω(783), ϕ(1020) andf(1270) inK− p interactions at 32 GeV/c are presented. The inclusive production cross sections are equal to (4.32±0.72) mb, (3.7±1.4) mb, (0.65±0.10) mb and (0.91±0.35) mb respectively. Estimates of the topological cross sections are also obtained. The invariant and non-invariantx-distributions for the vector mesons ϱ0 and ϕ indicate the prevalence of forward resonance production in the c.m. system. For the tensorf-meson the rapidity andx-distributions are presented. Thet′-distributions for ϱ0, ϕ, andf have exponential slopes of 0.6±0.1 GeV−2, 1.2±0.2 GeV−2, and 0.8±0.5 GeV−2 respectively. The exponential slope ofpT2-distribution of thef-meson is equal to (2.3±0.5) GeV−2.

We present final results on the inclusive production of the\(\bar K^{*0} (890)\),K*−(890),K*0(890),K*−(890),K*−(1420), and\(\bar K^{*0} (1420)\) resonances inK−p interactions at 32 GeV/c. Total cross sections and invariantx-distributions are determined. Inclusive cross sections of\(\bar K^{*\underset{\raise0.3em\hbox{$\smash{\scriptscriptstyle-}$}}{o} } (890)\) amount to ≃4 mb each, of\(\bar K^{*\underset{\raise0.3em\hbox{$\smash{\scriptscriptstyle-}$}}{o} } (1420)\) to ≃1 mb and ofK*0(890) to ≃0.8 mb. These values are in agreement with additive quark model predictions. All strangenessS=−1 resonances are predominantly produced in the forward hemisphere, the tensor mesons being more peripherally produced than the vector ones. The\(\bar K^{*\underset{\raise0.3em\hbox{$\smash{\scriptscriptstyle-}$}}{o} } (890)\) density matrix elements andt-distributions are obtained. The unnatural spin-parity exchange contribution to inclusive\(\bar K^{*\underset{\raise0.3em\hbox{$\smash{\scriptscriptstyle-}$}}{o} } (890)\) production amounts to ≳60% at |t|<0.4 GeV2 and decreases with increasing |t|. Final data on topological cross sections are presented. Inclusive single particle distributions for the reactionsK+p→ π±X at 32 GeV/c are discussed and compared with data at lower energies. Early scaling in the fragmentation regions is confirmed, while cross sections in th central region continue to rise with energy even faster than inpp interactions. Thex-andpT-dependence of the π+/π− ratio inK+p interactions is discussed and a comparison of reactionsK+p→ π±X andK−p→ π±X at 32 GeV/c is made in the context of constituent models. Antilambda production is studied inK−p interactions at 32 GeV/c. Both total and differential cross sections are presented. The inclusive\(\bar \Lambda \) production cross section amounts to 109±7 μb. A remarkable energy dependence is observed, σ(\(\bar \Lambda \)) increasing by a factor of four between 14.3 and 32 GeV/c. Thep⊥2 distribution exhibits an exponential fall-off with a slope of 3.3±0.2 (GeV/c)−2. Most of the\(\bar \Lambda \)'s are emitted in the forward hemisphere. In a K − p experiment at 32 GeV/ c with a sensitivity of 6 ev/≈b the inclusive reaction K − p → p + X was studied in the kinematical region x < −0.3. Most of the protons in this region were identified by ionization. Correcting for losses of the very slow as well as of the fast protons in this region we obtained σ p ( x < −0.3) = 5.9 ± 0.2 mb. The double invariant differential cross sections of protons were analysed in terms of the variables x , p T 2 , and M 2 / s , t , and the contributions from separate peripheral mechanisms were analysed. A triple-Regge analysis was performed on the inclusive proton d 2 σ /d t d( M 2 / s ) distribution with | t | < 1.1 GeV 2 . The fit with an RRP term resulted in an effective trajectory for the exchanged reggeon lying somewhat lower than that for the leading meson trajectory. Inclusion in the fit of an additional ππp term showed that pion exchange is important in the triple-Regge region at small | t |.

Results are presented on two-particle inclusive production inK+p interactions at 32 GeV/c. We study thex1,2=x1+x2 dependence of invariant structure functions of (ππ)-pairs and compare them to single particle inclusive distributions in the fragmentation regions. Distributions of particles observed at Feynmanx2 in association with various “trigger” particles or systems atx1 in the same hemisphere are dicussed in terms of the reduced variable\(\tilde x_2= x_2 /(1 - |x_1 |)\). We further present absolute production rates and production ratios of π+'s and π−'s associated with π±,Ks0, Λ,\(\bar \Lambda \),K*+ (890), (Ks0π+), and (π+ π−)-triggers, and compare them with qualitative predictions of the quark recombination model. Forwardbackward correlations between (Ks0π±), (Ks0,p), (Λ, π−),\((\bar \Lambda \pi ^ \pm)\), and (p, π−) pairs are also discussed.

We present a systematic investigation of channel cross sections in K − p interactions at 32 GeV/ c . The energy dependence of these cross sections is discussed. We also investigate a few non-diffractive two-body reactions. The total cross sections of the two reactions K − p → K ∗− (890) p and K − p → K ∗− (1420) p have a markedly different energy behaviour. There is clear evidence for the reaction K − p → K ∗0 (890) N 0 (1688) ; its differnttial cross section exhibits a sharp forward slope of 24 ± 3 GeV −2 .

The inclusive production of protons with laboratory momentum less than 1.2 GeV/ c is studied in the reacion K + p → pX at 32 GeV/ c . A comparison with the 16 GeV/ c data shows ahat the total cross section remains practically constant while the structure function shows a clear energy dependence. The data are compatible with a tripls-Regge expansion and with factorization. About 40% of the events include a K 0 in the final state. The analysis of the K 0 pX sample indicates a sizeable contribution of beam fragmentation and abundant K 890 ∗ and Δ ++ production.

The production of neutral kaons in the reaction K + p → K n + X is studied at the incident momentum of 32 GeV/ c . Inclusive cross sections and single-particle distributions are presented and compared with the data at lower energies. The total inclusive cross section amounts to 7.9 ± 0.3 mb at 32 GeV/ c and is significantly higher than at lower energies due to the rapid rise of multikaon production. The fraction of K n 's coming from the decay of the K ∗ resonances stays roughly constant with energy between 8.2 and 32 GeV/ c . In the central and beam fragmentation regions the single-particle distributions reveal no energy dependence between the 16 and 32 GeV/ c data in contrast with the behaviour at lower energies, while in the proton fragmentation region the data are compatible with the trend observed at lower energies and with theoretical expectations.

A study of the inclusive and semi-inclusive Λ and Λ production in K + p interactions at 32 GeV/ c is presented. The inclusive cross sections for Λ and Λ amount to 0.78 ± 0.05 and 0.42 ± 0.04 mb thus showing a remarkable growth between 16 and 32 GeV/ c with a factor of 1.7 for Λ and 2.8 for Λ . Target and beam fragmentation processes are found to be dominant for Λ and Λ production respectively with the following lower limits for the corresponding cross sections: σ(p → K + ʌ) > 0.5 mb and σ(K + → p ʌ ) > 0.3 mb . Although the early scaling conditions are fulfilled for the Λ production in the target fragmentation region, and Λ production in the beam fragmentation region, scaling is not observed between 16 and 32 GeV/ c in the x and p T 2 Feynman variables. The Λ production is found to be very similar in the K + p inclusive reaction at 32 GeV/ c and in the semi-inclusive reaction K − p → Λ K K X at the same energy. The Λ Λ pair production cross section increases significantly in K + p interactions from 16 to 32 GeV/ c where it reaches the value σ Λ Λ = 47 ± 11 μ b . The cross sections for Λ or Λ produced in association with an identified proton are also given and discussed.

The invariant longitudinal distributions have been calculated both for π + and π − in the backward c.m. hemisphere and extrapolated in the forward hemisphere under some physical assumptions. The inclusive cross sections for π + and π − amount to 32.9 ± 1.5 mb and 35.0 ± 0.7 mb respectively.
