Absolute cross sections for Compton scattering from protons have been determined at 180° for the backscattered photon at incident laboratory photon energies of 98 and 132 MeV. For the difference between the electric and the magnetic polarizability of the proton a value of (7.03 − 2.37 +2.49 − 2.05 +2.14 ) × 10 −4 fm 3 has been derived using the predictions from calculations based on relativistic dispersion relations.

Systematics of inclusive pion double charge exchange in the Delta resonance region

Wood, S.A. ; Matthews, J.L. ; Kinney, E.R. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.C 46 (1992) 1903-1921, 1992.
Inspire Record 348117 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.26043

A systematic study of inclusive pion double charge exchange is reported for nuclei between A=16 and A=208. The doubly differential cross sections for the A(π+,π−) and A(π−,π+) reactions in O16, Ca40, Rh103, and Pb208 were measured at incident energies between 120 and 270 MeV at three to five outgoing pion angles. Pion spectra were measured over the energy range from 10 MeV to the kinematic limit for double charge exchange. Integrating these spectra over outgoing pion energy generated angular distributions, and subsequently integrating these angular distributions generated total reaction cross sections. The shapes of the measured spectra are compared with those determined by the distribution of events in four-body phase space and with those predicted by a model in which the pion undergoes two sequential single charge exchanges on nucleons in a Fermi gas. The cross sections are compared with predictions of cascade calculations in which more than two interactions, including pion absorption and scattering without charge exchange, may occur.

n p elastic spin transfer measurements at 485-MeV and 635-MeV

Phys.Rev.C 46 (1992) 47-51, 1992.
Inspire Record 342389 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.26097

We have measured the spin-transfer parameters KLL, KSL, KLS, and KSS at 635 MeV from 50° to 178° c.m. and at 485 MeV from 74° to 176° c.m. These new data have a significant impact on the phase-shift analyses. There are now sufficient data near these energies to overdetermine the elastic nucleon-nucleon amplitudes.

A Measurement of the K+ K- / pi+ pi- ratio from anti-p annihilation in deuterium and hydrogen gas

We have measured the K + K - /π + π - ratio R from p annihilations in gaseous D 2 and H 2 at atmospheric pressure. The measurement was performed with the OBELIX spectrometer. From the measured value in gaseous D 2 (0.27±0.02) we infer a P wave contribution to p −p annihilation in D 2 of (18±7)%.

Polarization transfer in H-1 d (polarized), p (polarized) X at 2.1-GeV

Cheung, E. ; Perdrisat, C.F. ; Beard, K. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 284 (1992) 210-214, 1992.
Inspire Record 339765 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29176

The polarization of the proton from the inclusive breakup reaction 1 H( d , p )X at 2.1 GeV was measured at 0°. The results are expressed as the ratio of the proton polarization, P p , to the deuteron beam polarization, P d , κ 0 = P p / P d . The measured values of κ 0 range from +0.983 to -0.305 and are in general agreement with the expected behavior arising from the D state in the deuteron wave function.

Enhanced strange particle production, nonstatistical multiplicity fluctuations and two-pion Bose-Einstein correlations were measured in O, S-nucleus reactions at 60 and 200 GeV/nucleon. The results indicate significant collective effects in high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions.

Product of charged kaons in central S + S and O + Au collisions at 200 GeV/nucleon has been studied in the NA 35 Streamer Chamber experiment. Mean multiplicities and transverse mass distributions were obtained. They were compared with nucleon-nucleon data and with model predictions.

Fragmentation cross-sections of O-16 between 0.9-GeV/nucleon and 200-GeV/nucleon

Phys.Rev.C 46 (1992) 1487-1494, 1992.
Inspire Record 345208 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.38512

Inclusive cross sections for high energy interactions at 0.9, 2.3, 3.6, and 13.5 GeV/nucleon of O16 with C, CR-39 (C12H18O7), CH2, Al, Cu, Ag, and Pb targets were measured. The total charge-changing cross sections and partial charge-changing cross sections for the production of fragments with charge Z=6 and Z=7 are compared to previous experiments at 60 and 200 GeV/nucleon. The contributions of Coulomb dissociation to the total cross sections are calculated. Using factorization rules the partial electromagnetic cross sections are separated from the nuclear components. Energy dependence of both components are investigated and discussed.

Nucl.Phys.A 536 (1992) 637-647, 1992.
Inspire Record 337176 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.36704

The inclusive cross sections of backward proton production in π − ( K − , p ) -Be, Al, Cu, Pb interactions at 40 GeV/ c are presented. Protons have been detected in the angular range 150°–165° and kinetic energy region 0.1–0.3 GeV. The invariant cross-section ratios for various beam particles are independent of the values of kinetic energy and of the nuclear target type: 〈ƒ K − /ƒ π − 〉= 0.87 ± 0.03 stat ± 0.03 syst , 〈ƒ p /ƒ π − 〉 = 1.82 ± 0.10 stat ± 0.05 syst . The A -dependence of the cross-section slope parameter for A ⩾27 is less than ∼2%.
