The prompt production of charmonium $\chi_{c}$ and $J/\psi$ states is studied in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV at the Large Hadron Collider. The $\chi_{c}$ and $J/\psi$ mesons are identified through their decays $\chi_{c}\rightarrow J/\psi \gamma$ and $J/\psi\rightarrow \mu^+\mu^-$ using 36 pb$^{-1}$ of data collected by the LHCb detector in 2010. The ratio of the prompt production cross-sections for $\chi_{c}$ and $J/\psi$, $\sigma (\chi_{c}\rightarrow J/\psi \gamma)/ \sigma (J/\psi)$, is determined as a function of the $J/\psi$ transverse momentum in the range $2 < p_{\mathrm T}^{J/\psi} < 15$ GeV/$c$. The results are in excellent agreement with next-to-leading order non-relativistic expectations and show a significant discrepancy compared with the colour singlet model prediction at leading order, especially in the low $p_{\mathrm T}^{J/\psi}$ region.

The prompt production of the charmonium $\chi_{c1}$ and $\chi_{c2}$ mesons has been studied in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV. The $\chi_c$ mesons are identified through their decays $\chi_c\to J/\psi\,\gamma$ with $J/\psi \to \mu^+ \mu^-$ using 36 $\mathrm{pb^{-1}}$ of data collected by the LHCb detector in 2010. The ratio of the prompt production cross-sections for the two $\chi_c$ spin states, $\sigma(\chi_{c2})/\sigma(\chi_{c1})$, has been determined as a function of the $J/\psi$ transverse momentum, $p_{\mathrm{T}}^{J/\psi}$, in the range from 2 to 15 GeV/$c$. The results are in agreement with the next-to-leading order non-relativistic QCD model at high $p_{\mathrm{T}}^{J/\psi}$ and lie consistently above the pure leading-order colour singlet prediction.

Production of $\Upsilon$ mesons in proton-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5 \mathrm{TeV}$ is studied with the LHCb detector. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $1.6 \mathrm{nb}^{-1}$. The $\Upsilon$ mesons of transverse momenta up to $15 \mathrm{GeV}/c$ are reconstructed in the dimuon decay mode. The rapidity coverage in the centre-of-mass system is $1.5 < y < 4.0$ (forward region) and $-5.0 < y < -2.5$ (backward region). The forward-backward production ratio and the nuclear modification factor for $\Upsilon(1S)$ mesons are determined. The data are compatible with the predictions for a suppression of $\Upsilon(1S)$ production with respect to proton-proton collisions in the forward region, and an enhancement in the backward region. The suppression is found to be smaller than in the case of prompt $J/\psi$ mesons.

The cross-section for prompt antiproton production in collisions of protons with an energy of $6.5$ TeV incident on helium nuclei at rest is measured with the LHCb experiment from a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $0.5\,nb^{-1}$. The target is provided by injecting helium gas into the LHC beam line at the LHCb interaction point. The reported results, covering antiproton momenta between $12$ and $110\,\mathrm{GeV/}c$, represent the first direct determination of the antiproton production cross-section in ${\rm p He}$ collisions, and impact the interpretation of recent results on antiproton cosmic rays from space-borne experiments.

1 data table

Double-differential cross-section in antiproton momentum and transverse momentum for antiproton production in collisions of 6.5 TeV protons on He nuclei at rest. The antiproton momentum is defined in the laboratory frame. Results are averaged over the given kinematic range of each bin. The uncertainty is split into an uncertainty delta_uncorr, uncorrelated among the kinematic bins, and an uncertainty delta_corr, fully correlated among the kinematic bins. For both uncertainties, the systematic uncertainty, dominant for most bins, and the statistical uncertainty, are added in quadrature. The average value within each bin is also reported for the antiproton momentum, the transverse momentum, and x-Feynman xF=2 p_Z*/SQRT(S), where p_Z* is the longitudinal antiproton momentum in the center-of-mass system and SQRT(S) the nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy. These average values are obtained from simulation (based on EPOS LHC), to avoid biases from reconstruction effects and given the good agreement with data observed for the simulated kinematic spectra.

Promptly produced D$_{s}^{±}$ mesons are used, which decay as D$_{s}^{±}$  → ϕπ$^{±}$, with ϕ → K$^{+}$K$^{−}$. The measurement is performed in bins of transverse momentum, p$_{T}$, and rapidity, y, covering the range 2.5 < p$_{T}$ < 25.0 GeV/c and 2.0 < y < 4.5. No kinematic dependence is observed. Evidence of nonzero D$_{s}^{±}$ production asymmetry is found with a significance of 3.3 standard deviations.

ASYM is defined as ASYM = ((SIG(D/S+)-SIG(D/S-))/(SIG(D/S+)+SIG(D/S+)).

Differential production cross-sections with respect to transverse momentum, dsigma / dp_T, of Lambda_c+ baryons or their charge conjugates in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass (CM) energy sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. Measured in bins of hadron transverse momentum (p_T) and rapidity (y) with respect to the beam axis, where p_T and y are measured in the CM frame. Contributions of charm hadrons from the decays of b-hadrons have been removed.

The energy flow created in pp collisions at is studied within the pseudorapidity range 1.9<η<4.9 with data collected by the LHCb experiment. The measurements are performed for inclusive minimum-bias interactions, hard scattering processes and events with an enhanced or suppressed diffractive contribution. The results are compared to predictions given by Pythia-based and cosmic-ray event generators, which provide different models of soft hadronic interactions.

Inspire Record 919315 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.58143

The cross-section for inclusive phi meson production in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 7 TeV has been measured with the LHCb detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The differential cross-section is measured as a function of the phi transverse momentum p_T and rapidity y in the region 0.6 < p_T < 5.0 GeV/c and 2.44 < y < 4.06. The cross-section for inclusive phi production in this kinematic range is sigma(pp -> phi X) = 1758 pm 19(stat) ^{+43}_{-14}(syst) pm 182(scale) microbarn, where the first systematic uncertainty depends on the p_T and y region and the second is related to the overall scale. Predictions based on the Pythia 6.4 generator underestimate the cross-section.

The production of $J/\psi$ pairs in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV has been observed using an integrated luminosity of $37.5 pb^{-1}$ collected with the LHCb detector. The production cross-section for pairs with both \jpsi in the rapidity range $2<y^{J/\psi}<4.5$ and transverse momentum $p_{T}^{J/\psi}<10 GeV/c$ is $$ \sigma^{J/\psi J/\psi} = 5.1\pm1.0\pm1.1 nb,$$ where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.
