The CMS Collaboration presents the first measurement of the differential cross section of jets from charm quarks produced in proton–lead (pPb) collisions at a nucleon–nucleon center-of-mass energy of sNN=5.02TeV , as well as results from charm quark jets in proton–proton (pp) collisions at s=2.76 and 5.02 TeV . By comparing the yields of the pPb and pp collision systems at the same energy, a nuclear modification factor for charm jets from 55 to 400  GeV/c in pPb collisions at sNN=5.02TeV of RpA=0.92±0.07(stat)±0.11(syst) is obtained. This is consistent with an absence of final-state energy loss for charm quarks in pPb collisions. In addition, the fraction of jets coming from charm quarks is found to be consistent with that predicted by pythia 6 for pp collisions at s=2.76 and 5.02 TeV , and is independent of the jet transverse momentum from 55 to 400  GeV/c .

Inspire Record 1499475 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.79948

The dynamics of isolated-photon plus one-, two- and three-jet production in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV are studied with the ATLAS detector at the LHC using a data set with an integrated luminosity of 20.2 fb−1 . Measurements of isolated-photon plus jets cross sections are presented as functions of the photon and jet transverse momenta. The cross sections as functions of the azimuthal angle between the photon and the jets, the azimuthal angle between the jets, the photon–jet invariant mass and the scattering angle in the photon–jet centre-of-mass system are presented. The pattern of QCD radiation around the photon and the leading jet is investigated by measuring jet production in an annular region centred on each object; enhancements are observed around the leading jet with respect to the photon in the directions towards the beams. The experimental measurements are compared to several different theoretical calculations, and overall a good description of the data is found.

No Journal Information, 2017.
Inspire Record 1616207 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.79053

The transverse momentum (pt) spectrum of prompt D0 mesons and their antiparticles has been measured via the hadronic decay channels D0 to K- pi+ and D0-bar to K+ pi- in pp and PbPb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair with the CMS detector at the LHC. The measurement is performed in the D0 meson pt range of 2-100 GeV and in the rapidity range of abs(y)<1. The pp (PbPb) dataset used for this analysis corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 27.4 inverse picobarns (530 inverse microbarns). The measured D0 meson pt spectrum in pp collisions is well described by perturbative QCD calculations. The nuclear modification factor, comparing D0 meson yields in PbPb and pp collisions, was extracted for both minimum-bias and the 10% most central PbPb interactions. For central events, the D0 meson yield in the PbPb collisions is suppressed by a factor of 5-6 compared to the pp reference in the pt range of 6-10 GeV. For D0 mesons in the high-pt range of 60-100 GeV, a significantly smaller suppression is observed. The results are also compared to theoretical calculations.

The production of J/ψ mesons in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $ \sqrt{s}=13 $ TeV is studied with the LHCb detector. Cross-section measurements are performed as a function of the transverse momentum p$_{T}$ and the rapidity y of the J/ψ meson in the region p$_{T}$ < 14 GeV/c and 2.0 < y < 4.5, for both prompt J/ψ mesons and J/ψ mesons from b-hadron decays. The production cross-sections integrated over the kinematic coverage are 15.30 ± 0.03 ± 0.86 μb for prompt J/ψ and 2.34 ± 0.01 ± 0.13 μb for J/ψ from b-hadron decays, assuming zero polarization of the J/ψ meson. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The cross-section reported for J/ψ mesons from b-hadron decays is used to extrapolate to a total $ b\overline{b} $ cross-section. The ratios of the cross-sections with respect to $ \sqrt{s}=8 $ TeV are also determined.

Inspire Record 1471281 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.77221

The transverse momentum spectra of weak vector bosons are measured in the CMS experiment at the LHC. The measurement uses a sample of proton-proton collisions at $ \sqrt{s}=8 $ TeV, collected during a special low-luminosity running that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 18.4 ± 0.5 pb$^{−1}$. The production of W bosons is studied in both electron and muon decay modes, while the production of Z bosons is studied using only the dimuon decay channel. The ratios of W$^{−}$ to W$^{+}$ and Z to W differential cross sections are also measured. The measured differential cross sections and ratios are compared with theoretical predictions up to next-to-next leading order in QCD.

$\phi$-meson production at forward rapidity in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV and in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 2.76 TeV

Inspire Record 1380453 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.77057

The first measurement of $\phi$-meson production in p-Pb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV has been performed with the ALICE apparatus at the LHC. The $\phi$-mesons have been identified in the dimuon decay channel in the transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) range $1 < p_{\rm T} < 7$ GeV/$c$, both in the p-going ($2.03 < y < 3.53$) and the Pb-going ($-4.46 < y < -2.96$) directions, where $y$ stands for the rapidity in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass. Differential cross sections as a function of transverse momentum and rapidity are presented. The forward-backward asymmetry for $\phi$-meson production is measured for $2.96<|y|<3.53$, resulting in a factor $\sim 0.5$ with no significant $p_{\rm T}$ dependence within the uncertainties. The $p_{\rm T}$ dependence of the $\phi$ nuclear modification factor $R_{\rm pPb}$ exhibits an enhancement up to a factor 1.6 at $p_{\rm T}$ = 3-4 GeV/$c$ in the Pb-going direction. The $p_{\rm T}$ dependence of the $\phi$-meson cross section in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 2.76 TeV, which is used to determine a reference for the p-Pb results, is also presented here for $1 < p_{\rm T} < 5$ GeV/$c$ and $2.5 <y < 4$.

The production of D⁎± , D± and Ds± charmed mesons has been measured with the ATLAS detector in pp collisions at s=7 TeV at the LHC, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 280 nb−1 . The charmed mesons have been reconstructed in the range of transverse momentum 3.5<pT(D)<100 GeV and pseudorapidity |η(D)|<2.1 . The differential cross sections as a function of transverse momentum and pseudorapidity were measured for D⁎± and D± production. The next-to-leading-order QCD predictions are consistent with the data in the visible kinematic region within the large theoretical uncertainties. Using the visible D cross sections and an extrapolation to the full kinematic phase space, the strangeness-suppression factor in charm fragmentation, the fraction of charged non-strange D mesons produced in a vector state, and the total cross section of charm production at s=7 TeV were derived.

Phys.Rev. D94 (2016) 092003, 2016.
Inspire Record 1477814 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.75323

Measurements of normalized differential cross sections of top quark pair (tt¯) production are presented as a function of the mass, the transverse momentum and the rapidity of the tt¯ system in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of s=7 and 8 TeV. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.6  fb-1 at 7 TeV and 20.2  fb-1 at 8 TeV, recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events with top quark pair signatures are selected in the dilepton final state, requiring exactly two charged leptons and at least two jets with at least one of the jets identified as likely to contain a b hadron. The measured distributions are corrected for detector effects and selection efficiency to cross sections at the parton level. The differential cross sections are compared with different Monte Carlo generators and theoretical calculations of tt¯ production. The results are consistent with the majority of predictions in a wide kinematic range.

Inspire Record 1478355 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.75316

The dijet production cross section for jets containing a $b$-hadron ($b$-jets) has been measured in proton-proton collisions with a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV, using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The data used correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.2 fb$^{-1}$. The cross section is measured for events with two identified $b$-jets with a transverse momentum $p_T > 20$ GeV and a minimum separation in the $\eta$-$\phi$ plane of $\Delta R = 0.4$. At least one of the jets in the event is required to have $p_T > 270$ GeV. The cross section is measured differentially as a function of dijet invariant mass, dijet transverse momentum, boost of the dijet system, and the rapidity difference, azimuthal angle and angular distance between the $b$-jets. The results are compared to different predictions of leading order and next-to-leading order perturbative quantum chromodynamics matrix elements supplemented with models for parton-showers and hadronization.

The production of the $\eta _c (1S)$ state in proton-proton collisions is probed via its decay to the $p\overline{p}$ final state with the LHCb detector, in the rapidity range $2.0 < y < 4.5$ and in the meson transverse-momentum range $p_\mathrm{T} > 6.5 \mathrm{{\,GeV/}{ c}} $ . The cross-section for prompt production of $\eta _c (1S)$ mesons relative to the prompt ${{ J}}/{\psi } $ cross-section is measured, for the first time, to be $\sigma _{\eta _c (1S)}/\sigma _{{{{ J}}/{\psi }}} = 1.74\, \pm \,0.29\, \pm \, 0.28\, \pm \,0.18 _{{\mathcal{B}}}$ at a centre-of-mass energy ${\sqrt{s}} = 7 {~\mathrm{TeV}}$ using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.7 fb$^{-1}$ , and $\sigma _{\eta _c (1S)}/\sigma _{{{{ J}}/{\psi }}} = 1.60 \pm 0.29 \pm 0.25 \pm 0.17 _{{\mathcal{B}}}$ at ${\sqrt{s}} = 8 {~\mathrm{TeV}}$ using 2.0 fb$^{-1}$ . The uncertainties quoted are, in order, statistical, systematic, and that on the ratio of branching fractions of the $\eta _c (1S)$ and ${{ J}}/{\psi } $ decays to the $p\overline{p}$ final state. In addition, the inclusive branching fraction of ${b} $ -hadron decays into $\eta _c (1S)$ mesons is measured, for the first time, to be ${\mathcal{B}}( b {\rightarrow } \eta _c X ) = (4.88\, \pm \,0.64\, \pm \,0.29\, \pm \, 0.67 _{{\mathcal{B}}}) \times 10^{-3}$ , where the third uncertainty includes also the uncertainty on the ${{ J}}/{\psi } $ inclusive branching fraction from ${b} $ -hadron decays. The difference between the ${{ J}}/{\psi } $ and $\eta _c (1S)$ meson masses is determined to be $114.7 \pm 1.5 \pm 0.1 {\mathrm {\,MeV\!/}c^2} $ .

D-meson production in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02$ TeV and in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV

Inspire Record 1465513 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.73941

The production cross sections of the prompt charmed mesons D$^0$, D$^+$, D$^{*+}$ and D$_s$ were measured at mid-rapidity in p-Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02$ TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. D mesons were reconstructed from their decays D$^0\rightarrow{\rm K}^-\pi^+$, D$^+\rightarrow{\rm K}^-\pi^+\pi^+$, D$^{*+}\rightarrow D^0\pi^+$, D$_s^+\rightarrow\phi\pi^+\rightarrow{\rm K}^-{\rm K}^+\pi^+$, and their charge conjugates. The $p_{\rm T}$-differential production cross sections were measured at mid-rapidity in the interval $1<p_{\rm T}<24$ GeV/$c$ for D$^0$, D$^+$ and D$^{*+}$ mesons and in $2<p_{\rm T}<12$ GeV/$c$ for D$_s$ mesons, using an analysis method based on the selection of decay topologies displaced from the interaction vertex. The production cross sections of the D$^0$, D$^+$ and D$^{*+}$ mesons were also measured in three $p_{\rm T}$ intervals as a function of the rapidity $y_{\rm cms}$ in the centre-of-mass system in $-1.26<y_{\rm cms}<0.34$. In addition, the prompt D$^0$ cross section was measured in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV and p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02$ TeV down to $p_{\rm T}=0$ using an analysis technique that is based on the estimation and subtraction of the combinatorial background, without reconstruction of the D$^0$ decay vertex. The nuclear modification factor $R_{\rm pPb}(p_{\rm T})$, defined as the ratio of the $p_{\rm T}$-differential D-meson cross section in p-Pb collisions and that in pp collisions scaled by the mass number of the Pb nucleus, was calculated for the four D-meson species and found to be compatible with unity within experimental uncertainties. The results are compared to theoretical calculations that include cold-nuclear-matter effects and to transport model calculations incorporating the interactions of charm quarks with an expanding deconfined medium.

H1 and ZEUS have published single-differential cross sections for inclusive D$^{∗±}$-meson production in deep-inelastic ep scattering at HERA from their respective final data sets. These cross sections are combined in the common visible phase-space region of photon virtuality Q$^{2}$ > 5 GeV$^{2}$, electron inelasticity 0.02 < y < 0.7 and the D$^{∗±}$ meson’s transverse momentum p$_{T}$(D$^{∗}$) > 1.5 GeV and pseudorapidity |η(D$^{∗}$)| < 1.5. The combination procedure takes into account all correlations, yielding significantly reduced experimental uncertainties. Double-differential cross sections d$^{2}$ σ/dQ$^{2}$dy are combined with earlier D$^{∗±}$ data, extending the kinematic range down to Q$^{2}$ > 1.5 GeV$^{2}$. Perturbative next-to-leading-order QCD predictions are compared to the results.

Multi - Hadronic Events at E(c.m.) = 29-GeV and Predictions of QCD Models from E(c.m.) = 29-GeV to E(c.m.) = 93-GeV

Multihadronic e+e− annihilation events at a center-of-mass energy of 29 GeV have been studied with both the original (PEP 5) Mark II and the upgraded Mark II detectors. Detector-corrected distributions from global shape analyses such as aplanarity, Q2-Q1, sphericity, thrust, minor value, oblateness, and jet masses, and inclusive charged-particle distributions including x, rapidity, p⊥, and particle flow are presented. These distributions are compared with predictions from various multihadron event models which use leading-logarithmic shower evolution or QCD matrix elements at the parton level and string or cluster fragmentation for hadronization. The new generation of parton-shower models gives, on the average, a better description of the data than the previous parton-shower models. The energy behavior of these models is compared to existing e+e− data. The predictions of the models at a center-of-mass energy of 93 GeV, roughly the expected mass of the Z0, are also presented.

We present a measurement of the cross sections for the associated production of a $W$ boson with at least one heavy quark jet, $b$ or $c$, in proton-antiproton collisions. Data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.7 fb$^{-1}$ recorded with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron \ppbar Collider at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV are used to measure the cross sections differentially as a function of the jet transverse momenta in the range 20 to 150 GeV. These results are compared to calculations of perturbative QCD theory as well as predictions from Monte Carlo generators.

A measurement is presented of single- and double-differential dijet cross sections in diffractive deep-inelastic $ep$ scattering at HERA using data collected by the H1 experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 290 pb^{-1}. The investigated phase space is spanned by the photon virtuality in the range of 4<Q^{2}<100 GeV^{2} and by the fractional proton longitudinal momentum loss x_pom<0.03. The resulting cross sections are compared with next-to-leading order QCD predictions based on diffractive parton distribution functions and the value of the strong coupling constant is extracted.

Inspire Record 1372730 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.72989

A comparison of the differential cross sections for the processes Z/γ$^{*}$ + jets and photon (γ)+jets is presented. The measurements are based on data collected with the CMS detector at $ \sqrt{s}=8 $ TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb$^{−1}$. The differential cross sections and their ratios are presented as functions of p$_{T}$. The measurements are also shown as functions of the jet multiplicity. Differential cross sections are obtained as functions of the ratio of the Z/γ$^{*}$ p$_{T}$ to the sum of all jet transverse momenta and of the ratio of the Z/γ$^{*}$ p$_{T}$ to the leading jet transverse momentum. The data are corrected for detector effects and are compared to simulations based on several QCD calculations.

Measurements are presented of electroweak boson production using data from pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $ \sqrt{s}=8 $ TeV. The analysis is based on an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb$^{−1}$ recorded with the LHCb detector. The bosons are identified in the W → μν and Z → μ$^{+}$ μ$^{−}$ decay channels. The cross-sections are measured for muons in the pseudorapidity range 2.0 < η < 4.5, with transverse momenta p$_{T}$ > 20 GeV/c and, in the case of the Z boson, a dimuon mass within $ 60 < {M}_{\mu }{{{}_{{}^{+}}}_{\mu}}_{{}^{-}}<120 $ GeV/c$^{2}$. The results are $ {\sigma}_W{{}_{{}^{+}}}_{\to \mu }{{}_{{}^{+}}}_{\nu }=1093.6\pm 2.1\pm 7.2\pm 10.9\pm 12.7\ \mathrm{p}\mathrm{b}, $ $ {\sigma}_W{{}_{{}^{-}}}_{\to \mu }{{}_{{}^{-}}}_{\overline{\nu}}=818.4\pm 1.9\pm 5.0\pm 7.0\pm 9.5\ \mathrm{p}\mathrm{b}, $ $ {\sigma}_{\mathrm{Z}\to \mu }{{{}_{{}^{+}}}_{\mu}}_{{}^{-}}=95.0\pm 0.3\pm 0.7\pm 1.1\pm 1.1\ \mathrm{p}\mathrm{b}, $ $ {\sigma}_{Z\to \mu }{{{}_{{}^{+}}}_{\mu}}_{{}^{-}}=95.0\pm 0.3\pm 0.7\pm 1.1\pm 1.1\ \mathrm{p}\mathrm{b}, $ where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second are systematic, the third are due to the knowledge of the LHC beam energy and the fourth are due to the luminosity determination. The evolution of the W and Z boson cross-sections with centre-of-mass energy is studied using previously reported measurements with 1.0 fb$^{−1}$ of data at 7 TeV. Differential distributions are also presented. Results are in good agreement with theoretical predictions at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics.

Measurements of charged jet production as a function of centrality are presented for  p–Pb  collisions recorded at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm {NN}}= 5.02$ TeV with the ALICE detector. Centrality classes are determined via the energy deposit in neutron calorimeters at zero degree, close to the beam direction, to minimise dynamical biases of the selection. The corresponding number of participants or binary nucleon–nucleon collisions is determined based on the particle production in the Pb-going rapidity region. Jets have been reconstructed in the central rapidity region from charged particles with the anti- $k_\mathrm {T}$ algorithm for resolution parameters $R = 0.2$ and $R = 0.4$ in the transverse momentum range 20 to 120 GeV/c. The reconstructed jet momentum and yields have been corrected for detector effects and underlying-event background. In the five centrality bins considered, the charged jet production in  p–Pb   collisions is consistent with the production expected from binary scaling from pp collisions. The ratio of jet yields reconstructed with the two different resolution parameters is also independent of the centrality selection, demonstrating the absence of major modifications of the radial jet structure in the reported centrality classes.

Measurement of $\psi(2S)$ meson production in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=7 TeV

Inspire Record 1104754 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.72881

The differential cross-section for the inclusive production of $\psi(2S)$ mesons in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=7~Tev has been measured with the LHCb detector. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $36$~pb$^{-1}$. The $\psi(2S)$ mesons are reconstructed in the decay channels $\psi(2S) \rightarrow \mu^+ \mu^-$ and $\psi(2S) \rightarrow J/\psi \pi^+ \pi^-$, with the $J/\psi$ meson decaying into two muons. Results are presented both for promptly produced $\psi(2S)$ mesons and for those originating from $b$-hadron decays. In the kinematic range $p_{\rm T}(\psi(2S)) \le 16$~GeV/$c$ and $2 < y(\psi(2S)) \le 4.5$ we measure \begin{eqnarray*} \sigma_{\rm prompt}(\psi(2S)) &=& 1.44 \pm 0.01~(\text{stat})\pm 0.12~(\text{syst})^{+0.20}_{-0.40}~(\text{pol})~{\rm \mu b}, \\ \sigma_{b}(\psi(2S)) &=& 0.25 \pm 0.01~(\text{stat}) \pm 0.02~(\text{syst})~{\rm \mu b}, \end{eqnarray*} where the last uncertainty on the prompt cross-section is due to the unknown $\psi(2S)$ polarization. Recent QCD calculations are found to be in good agreement with our measurements. Combining the present result with the LHCb $J/\psi$ measurements we determine the inclusive branching fraction \begin{equation*} \mathcal{B}(b \rightarrow \psi(2S) X) = (2.73 \pm 0.06~(\text{stat}) \pm 0.16~(\text{syst}) \pm 0.24~(\text{BF})) \times 10^{-3}, \end{equation*} where the last uncertainty is due to the $\mathcal{B}(b \rightarrow J/\psi X)$, $\mathcal{B}(J/\psi \rightarrow \mu^+ \mu^-)$ and $\mathcal{B}(\psi(2S) \rightarrow e^+ e^-)$ branching fraction uncertainties.

The first error is statistical, the second is systematic, and the last asymmetric uncertainty is due to the unknown polarization of the prompt $\psi(2S)$ meson.

The production cross sections of the B+, B0, and Bs0 mesons, and of their charge conjugates, are measured via exclusive hadronic decays in p+Pb collisions at the center-of-mass energy sNN=5.02  TeV with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. The data set used for this analysis corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 34.6  nb-1. The production cross sections are measured in the transverse momentum range between 10 and 60  GeV/c. No significant modification is observed compared to proton-proton perturbative QCD calculations scaled by the number of incoherent nucleon-nucleon collisions. These results provide a baseline for the study of in-medium b quark energy loss in Pb+Pb collisions.

Measurement of electrons from heavy-flavour hadron decays in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} =$ 5.02 TeV

Inspire Record 1394682 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.71455

The production of electrons from heavy-flavour hadron decays was measured as a function of transverse momentum ( pT ) in minimum-bias p–Pb collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV using the ALICE detector at the LHC. The measurement covers the pT interval 0.5<pT<12 GeV/c and the rapidity range −1.065<ycms<0.135 in the centre-of-mass reference frame. The contribution of electrons from background sources was subtracted using an invariant mass approach. The nuclear modification factor RpPb was calculated by comparing the pT -differential invariant cross section in p–Pb collisions to a pp reference at the same centre-of-mass energy, which was obtained by interpolating measurements at s=2.76 TeV and s=7 TeV . The RpPb is consistent with unity within uncertainties of about 25%, which become larger for pT below 1 GeV/c . The measurement shows that heavy-flavour production is consistent with binary scaling, so that a suppression in the high- pT yield in Pb–Pb collisions has to be attributed to effects induced by the hot medium produced in the final state. The data in p–Pb collisions are described by recent model calculations that include cold nuclear matter effects.
