Measurements of the S-wave fraction in $B^{0}\rightarrow K^{+}\pi^{-}\mu^{+}\mu^{-}$ decays and the $B^{0}\rightarrow K^{\ast}(892)^{0}\mu^{+}\mu^{-}$ differential branching fraction

A measurement of the differential branching fraction of the decay B$^{0}$ → K$^{∗}$(892)$^{0}$ μ$^{+}$ μ$^{−}$ is presented together with a determination of the S-wave fraction of the K$^{+}$ π$^{−}$ system in the decay B$^{0}$ → K$^{+}$π$^{−}$ μ$^{+}$ μ$^{−}$. The analysis is based on pp-collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb$^{−1}$ collected with the LHCb experiment. The measurements are made in bins of the invariant mass squared of the dimuon system, q$^{2}$. Precise theoretical predictions for the differential branching fraction of B$^{0}$ → K$^{∗}$(892)$^{0}$ μ$^{+}$ μ$^{−}$ decays are available for the q$^{2}$ region 1.1 < q$^{2}$ < 6.0 GeV$^{2}$ /c$^{4}$. In this q$^{2}$ region, for the K$^{+}$π$^{−}$ invariant mass range 796 < m$_{Kπ}$ < 996 MeV/c$^{2}$, the S-wave fraction of the K$^{+}$π$^{−}$ system in B$^{0}$ → K$^{+}$π$^{−}$ μ$^{+}$ μ$^{−}$ decays is found to be $ {F}_{\mathrm{S}}=0.101\pm 0.017\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.009\left(\mathrm{syst}\right), $ and the differential branching fraction of B$^{0}$ → K$^{∗}$(892)$^{0}$ μ$^{+}$ μ$^{−}$ decays is determined to be $ \mathrm{d}\mathrm{\mathcal{B}}/\mathrm{d}{q}^2=\left(0.{392}_{-0.019}^{+0.020}\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.010\left(\mathrm{syst}\right)\pm 0.027\left(\mathrm{norm}\right)\right)\times 1{0}^{-7}{c}^4/{\mathrm{GeV}}^2. $

Measurements of prompt charm production cross-sections in $pp$ collisions at $ \sqrt{s}=13 $ TeV

Production cross-sections of prompt charm mesons are measured with the first data from $pp$ collisions at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of $13\,\mathrm{TeV}$. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $4.98 \pm 0.19\,\mathrm{pb}^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment. The production cross-sections of $D^{0}$, $D^{+}$, $D_{s}^{+}$, and $D^{*+}$ mesons are measured in bins of charm meson transverse momentum, $p_{\mathrm{T}}$, and rapidity, $y$, and cover the range $0 < p_{\mathrm{T}} < 15\,\mathrm{GeV}/c$ and $2.0 < y < 4.5$. The inclusive cross-sections for the four mesons, including charge conjugation, within the range of $1 < p_{\mathrm{T}} < 8\,\mathrm{GeV}/c$ are found to be \begin{align*} \begin{array}{lcr} \sigma(pp \to D^{0} X) &=& 2460 \pm \phantom{1}3 \pm 130\,\mu\mathrm{b} \\ \sigma(pp \to D^{+} X) &=& 1000 \pm \phantom{1}3 \pm 110\,\mu\mathrm{b} \\ \sigma(pp \to D_{s}^{+} X) &=& 460 \pm 13 \pm 100\,\mu\mathrm{b} \\ \sigma(pp \to D^{*+} X) &=& 880 \pm \phantom{1}5 \pm 140\,\mu\mathrm{b} \end{array} \end{align*} where the uncertainties are due to statistical and systematic uncertainties, respectively.

Measurement of forward $J/\psi$ production cross-sections in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV

The production of J/ψ mesons in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $ \sqrt{s}=13 $ TeV is studied with the LHCb detector. Cross-section measurements are performed as a function of the transverse momentum p$_{T}$ and the rapidity y of the J/ψ meson in the region p$_{T}$ < 14 GeV/c and 2.0 < y < 4.5, for both prompt J/ψ mesons and J/ψ mesons from b-hadron decays. The production cross-sections integrated over the kinematic coverage are 15.30 ± 0.03 ± 0.86 μb for prompt J/ψ and 2.34 ± 0.01 ± 0.13 μb for J/ψ from b-hadron decays, assuming zero polarization of the J/ψ meson. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The cross-section reported for J/ψ mesons from b-hadron decays is used to extrapolate to a total $ b\overline{b} $ cross-section. The ratios of the cross-sections with respect to $ \sqrt{s}=8 $ TeV are also determined.
