We report on the inclusive production cross sections of ${\mathrm{J}/\psi }$ , ${\psi (\mathrm{2S})}$ , $\mathrm{\Upsilon }$ (1S), $\mathrm{\Upsilon }$ (2S) and $\mathrm{\Upsilon }$ (3S), measured at forward rapidity with the ALICE detector in $\mathrm{pp}$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=8$  TeV. The analysis is based on data collected at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.23 pb$^{-1}$ . Quarkonia are reconstructed in the dimuon-decay channel. The differential production cross sections are measured as a function of the transverse momentum ${p_\mathrm{T}}$ and rapidity y, over the ${p_\mathrm{T}}$ ranges $0<{p_\mathrm{T}}<20$  GeV/c for ${\mathrm{J}/\psi }$ , $0<{p_\mathrm{T}}<12$  GeV/c for all other resonances, and for $2.5<y<4$ . The cross sections, integrated over ${p_\mathrm{T}}$ and y, and assuming unpolarized quarkonia, are $\sigma _{{\mathrm{J}/\psi }} = 8.98\pm 0.04\pm 0.82$   $\upmu $ b, $\sigma _{{\psi (\mathrm{2S})}} = 1.23\pm 0.08\pm 0.22$   $\upmu $ b, $\sigma _{\mathrm{\Upsilon }\mathrm{(1S)}} = 71\pm 6\pm 7$  nb, $\sigma _{\mathrm{\Upsilon }\mathrm{(2S)}} = 26\pm 5\pm 4$  nb and $\sigma _{\mathrm{\Upsilon }\mathrm{(3S)}} = 9\pm 4\pm 1$  nb, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second one is systematic. These values agree, within at most $1.4\sigma $ , with measurements performed by the LHCb collaboration in the same rapidity range.

Rapidity and transverse-momentum dependence of the inclusive J/$\psi$ nuclear modification factor in p-Pb collisions at $ \sqrt{s_{N\ N}} =$ 5.02 TeV

We have studied the transverse-momentum (p$_{T}$) dependence of the inclusive J/ψ production in p-Pb collisions at $ \sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} $ = 5.02 TeV, in three center-of-mass rapidity (y$_{cms}$) regions, down to zero p$_{T}$. Results in the forward and backward rapidity ranges (2.03 < y$_{cms}$ < 3.53 and −4.46 < y$_{cms}$ < −2.96) are obtained by studying the J/ψ decay to μ$^{+}$ μ$^{−}$ , while the mid-rapidity region (−1.37 < y$_{cms}$ < 0.43) is investigated by measuring the e$^{+}$e$^{−}$ decay channel. The p$_{T}$ dependence of the J/ψ production cross section and nuclear modification factor are presented for each of the rapidity intervals, as well as the J/ψ mean p$_{T}$ values. Forward and mid-rapidity results show a suppression of the J/ψ yield, with respect to pp collisions, which decreases with increasing p$_{T}$. At backward rapidity no significant J/ψ suppression is observed. Theoretical models including a combination of cold nuclear matter effects such as shadowing and partonic energy loss, are in fair agreement with the data, except at forward rapidity and low transverse momentum. The implications of the p-Pb results for the evaluation of cold nuclear matter effects on J/ψ production in Pb-Pb collisions are also discussed.

The ALICE Collaboration has studied the inclusive production of the charmonium state ψ(2S) in proton-lead (p-Pb) collisions at the nucleon-nucleon centre of mass energy $ \sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} $ = 5.02 TeV at the CERN LHC. The measurement was performed at forward (2.03 < y$_{cms}$ < 3.53) and backward (−4.46 < y$_{cms}$ < −2.96) centre of mass rapidities, studying the decays into muon pairs. In this paper, we present the inclusive production cross sections σ$_{ψ(2S)}$, both integrated and as a function of the transverse momentum p$_{T}$, for the two y$_{cms}$ domains. The results are compared to those obtained for the 1S vector state (J/ψ), by showing the ratios between the production cross sections, as well as the double ratios [σ$_{ψ(2S)}$ /σ$_{J/ψ}$ ]$_{pPb}$ /[σ$_{ψ(2S)}$ /σ$_{J/ψ}$ ]$_{pp}$ between p-Pb and proton-proton collisions. Finally, the nuclear modification factor for inclusive ψ(2S) is evaluated and compared to the measurement of the same quantity for J/ψ and to theoretical models including parton shadowing and coherent energy loss mechanisms. The results show a significantly larger suppression of the ψ(2S) compared to that measured for J/ψ and to models. These observations represent a clear indication for sizeable final state effects on ψ(2S) production.

The ALICE Collaboration has measured inclusive J/psi production in pp collisions at a center of mass energy sqrt(s)=2.76 TeV at the LHC. The results presented in this Letter refer to the rapidity ranges |y|<0.9 and 2.5<y<4 and have been obtained by measuring the electron and muon pair decay channels, respectively. The integrated luminosities for the two channels are L^e_int=1.1 nb^-1 and L^mu_int=19.9 nb^-1, and the corresponding signal statistics are N_J/psi^e+e-=59 +/- 14 and N_J/psi^mu+mu-=1364 +/- 53. We present dsigma_J/psi/dy for the two rapidity regions under study and, for the forward-y range, d^2sigma_J/psi/dydp_t in the transverse momentum domain 0<p_t<8 GeV/c. The results are compared with previously published results at sqrt(s)=7 TeV and with theoretical calculations.

$J/\psi$ polarization in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV

The ALICE Collaboration has studied J/psi production in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=7 TeV at the LHC through its muon pair decay. The polar and azimuthal angle distributions of the decay muons were measured, and results on the J/$\psi$ polarization parameters lambda_theta and lambda_phi were obtained. The study was performed in the kinematic region 2.5 < y < 4, 2 < $p_t$ < 8 GeV/c, in the helicity and Collins-Soper reference frames. The results for lambda_theta in the helicity frame show a longitudinal polarization at low $p_t$, vanishing with increasing transverse momentum. All the other polarization parameters are consistent with zero, within uncertainties.
