The first spin-transfer observables for the πd→pp reaction have been measured at a number of energies spanning the Δ resonance in this system. These parameters correspond to KSL and KSS of the pp→dπ reaction for incident proton energies ranging from 600 to 800 MeV. Such data can provide an important constraint on the determination of the partial-wave amplitudes describing this fundamental reaction. The discrepancies between our data, theoretical predictions, and values calculated from published partial-wave amplitudes demonstrate the need for further work in this area.

First Results for the Two Spin Parameter $A_{LL}$ in $\pi^0$ Production by 200-GeV Polarized Protons and Antiprotons

The E581 & E704 collaborations Adams, D.L. ; Akchurin, N. ; Belikov, N.I. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 261 (1991) 197-200, 1991.
Inspire Record 314233 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29385

The two-spin parameter A LL in inclusive π 0 productionby longitudinally-polarized protons and antiprotons on a longitudinally-polarized proton target has been measured at the 200 GeV Fermilab spin physics facility, for π 0 's at x F =0 with 1⩽ p t ⩽3 GeV/ c . The results exclude, at the 95% confidence level, values of A LL (pp) > 0.1 and < − 0.1 for π 0 's produced by protons, and values of A LL ( p p) > 0.1 and < −0.2 for incident antiprotons. The relevance of A LL (pp) for the gluon spin density is discussed. The data are in good agreement with “conventional”, small or zero, gluon polarization.

Measurement of a Mixed Spin Spin Correlation Parameter for $n p$ Elastic Scattering

Garnett, R. ; Rawool, M. ; Carlson, V. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 40 (1989) 1708, 1989.
Inspire Record 25430 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23054

The mixed spin-spin correlation parameter Cσσ≈0.5CSS−0.8CSL for np elastic scattering was measured for incident-neutron-beam kinetic energies of 484, 634, and 788 MeV over the center-of-mass angular range 75°-180°. These Cσσ data are important for determining the I=0 nucleon-nucleon amplitudes and provide strong constraints on the phase-shift solutions. It was found that the P11, S13, and D13 isospin-0 partial waves are most strongly affected.

Spin Correlation Parameter A(nn) ($\theta^*$) for $n p$ Elastic Scattering at 790-{MeV}

Nath, S. ; Glass, G. ; Hiebert, J.C. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 39 (1989) 3520, 1989.
Inspire Record 25429 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23226

The spin-correlation parameter Ann for free n-p elastic scattering has been measured for the first time for incident-neutron-beam energy En=790 MeV and c.m. angles 48°≤θ*≤149°. The data are compared with the widely differing predictions of several phase-shift analyses, clearly favoring one of them. They also are compared with recently published quasifree Ann data for the more limited c.m. angular region 98°≲θ*≲122°.

An investigation of the spin structure of the proton in deep inelastic scattering of polarized muons on polarized protons.

Nucl.Phys.B 328 (1989) 1, 1989.
Inspire Record 280143 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.49587

The spin asymmetry in deep inelastic scattering of longitudinally polarised muons by longitudinally polarised protons has been measured in the range 0.01<×<0.7. The spin dependent structure function g 1 ( x ) for the proton has been determined and, combining the data with earlier SLAC measurements, its integral over x found to be 0.126±0.010(stat.)±0.015(syst.), in disagreement with the Ellis-Jaffe sum rule. Assuming the validity of the Biorken sum rule, this result implies a significant negative value for the integral of g 1 for the neutron. These integrals lead to the conclusion, in the naïve quark parton model, that the total quark spin constitutes a rather small fraction of the spin of the nucleon. Results are also presented on the asymmetries in inclusive hadron production which are consistent with the above picture.

Measurement of the Parameters $N$(0skn), $D$(0n0n) and $K$(0sk0) in $P P$ Elastic Scattering Between 0.84-{GeV} and 2.1-{GeV}

Inspire Record 284690 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33254

The spin-dependent observables N 0 s ″ kn , D 0 n 0 n and K 0 s ″ k 0 in pp elastic scattering were measured at nine energies between 0.84 and 2.1 GeV using the SATURNE II polarized proton beam and the Saclay frozen spin polarized target. The beam polarization was oriented longitudinally and the target polarization was oriented vertically. Precession of the recoil particle spin in the target holding field introduces a small contribution from other parameters. The present results for K 0 s ″ k 0 and D 0 n 0 n agree with our previous measurements of the same observables carried out in different beam and target spin configurations as well as with previously existing measurements. The observable N 0 s ″ kn had not been measured previously above 0.58 GeV. Below 1.3 GeV our data are compared with the predictions of the Saclay-Geneva phase shift analysis. The new results will considerably affect the phase shift analysis solutions and will contribute to their extension towards higher energies.

Measurement of the Parameters $N$(0snk), $K$(0ss0), $K$(0nn0) and $D$(0s0k) in $P P$ Elastic Scattering Between 0.84-{GeV} and 2.7-{GeV}

The spin dependent observables N 0s n ″ k , K 0s″s0 and D 0s″0k in pp elastic scattering were measured at 11 energies between 0.84 and 2.7 GeV using the SATURNE II polarized proton beam and the Saclay frozen spin polarized target. The beam polarization was oriented in the vertical plane, the target polarization was oriented along the incident beam direction. Below 1 GeV the present data agree with previously existing measurements. Below 1.3 GeV they are compared with the predictions of the Saclay-Geneva phase shift analysis. The results will improve the phase shift analysis solutions and will contribute to their extensions towards higher energies. Together with our previous results the data allow a direct reconstruction of the pp elastic matrix over the energy region from 0.84 too 2.7 GeV.

Nucl.Phys.B 321 (1989) 299-310, 1989.
Inspire Record 284692 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33222

The spin correlation parameters A 00 kk and A 00 sk were measured at 0.874, 0.934, 1.095, 1.295, 1.596, 1.796, 2.096, and 2.396 GeV, using the SATURNE II polarized proton beam and tha Saclay frozen spin polarized target. The present results for beam-target spin correlations obtained during measurements of three-spin index observables confirm, in particular, relatively large positive values of A 00 sk at certain energies and angles, as was shown in previously published data from a dedicated experiment.

Measurement of the Spin Correlation Parameters A(ll) and A(sl) for the Reaction $P P \to D \pi^+$ in the Energy Region 500-{MeV} - 800-{MeV}

Barlow, D.B. ; Saha, A. ; Seth, K.K. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.C 37 (1988) 1977-1986, 1988.
Inspire Record 242361 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.26282

Angular distributions of the spin-correlation parameters Asl and All for the reaction pp→π+d have been measured at pion center-of-mass angles 40°≤θπ+*≤130° at incident energies of 500, 650, and 800 MeV. Additional measurements of All were made at 600, 700, and 750 MeV. The results of the experiment are compared with the predictions of several unified coupled-channel calculations and partial-wave analyses. While the latest partial-wave analyses were found to fit the data reasonably well, all except one of the various model predictions not only do not fit the data well, but also tend to be in disagreement with each other. The data show no clear sign of a need for proposed dibaryon resonances.
