The cross sections for e + e − → hadrons, e + e − , μ + μ − have been measured in the vicinity of the J Ψ resonance using the BES detector operated at BEPC. The partial widths for J Ψ to hadrons, electrons, muons and the total width have been determined to be Γ h = 74.1 ± 8.1 keV, Γ e = 5.14 ± 0.39 keV, Γ μ = 5.13 ± 0.52 keV, and Γ = 84.4 ± 8.9 keV, respectively.

During the 1992 running period of the LEP e + e − collider, the DELPHI experiment accumulated approximately 24 pb − of data at the Z 0 peak. The decays into hadrons and charged leptons have been analysed to give values for the cross sections and leptonic forward-backward asymmetries which are significantly improved with respect to those previously published by the DELPHI collaboration. Incorporating these new data, more precise values for the Z 0 resonance parameters are obtained from model-independent fits. The results are interpreted within the framework of the Standard Model, yielding for the top quark mass m t = 157 −48 +36 (expt.) −20 +19 (Higgs) GeV, and for the effective mixing angle sin 2 θ eff lept = 0.2328 ± 0.0013 (expt.) −0.0003 +0.0001 (Higgs), where (Higgs) represents the variation due to Higgs boson mass in the range 60 to 1000 GeV, with central value 300 GeV.

Inspire Record 455114 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28221

A measurement of the strong coupling constant α S is presented using hadronic events produced in e + e − annihilations at s =58.0 GeV from the AMY detector at TRISTAN. The measurement is based on comparisons of the distributions of thrust, heavy jet mass, total jet broadening, wide jet broadening, and energy-energy correlations with QCD calculations resummed up to next-to-leading-logarithms matched with the O ( α S 2 ) perturbative calculation. Combining the results of the individual evaluations, we find α S (58 GeV )=0.132±0.006 .

The fraction of Z to bbbar events in hadronic Z decays has been measured by the OPAL experiment using the data collected at LEP between 1992 and 1995. The Z to bbbar decays were tagged using displaced secondary vertices, and high momentum electrons and muons. Systematic uncertainties were reduced by measuring the b-tagging efficiency using a double tagging technique. Efficiency correlations between opposite hemispheres of an event are small, and are well understood through comparisons between real and simulated data samples. A value of Rb = 0.2178 +- 0.0011 +- 0.0013 was obtained, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. The uncertainty on Rc, the fraction of Z to ccbar events in hadronic Z decays, is not included in the errors. The dependence on Rc is Delta(Rb)/Rb = -0.056*Delta(Rc)/Rc where Delta(Rc) is the deviation of Rc from the value 0.172 predicted by the Standard Model. The result for Rb agrees with the value of 0.2155 +- 0.0003 predicted by the Standard Model.

We present a study of the third moment of the inclusive momentum distribution of particles within jets produced by e + e - annihilation at TRISTAN. In this analysis, the QCD coupling strength α s is determined by fits to the prediction of the Next-to-Leading Logarithm Parton-Shower model. The measured value of α s (57.9 GeV ) = 0.134 -0.005 +0.006 .

The strong coupling constant α s was determined from analyses of the thrust, heavy jet mass and, differential 2-jet rate, using e + e - hadronic events at s = 58 GeV with the TOPAZ detector at TRISTAN. The NLLjet Monte Carlo simulation (NLLjet) and analytic formulae based on resummation up to the next-to-leading logarithms combined with O ( α 2 s ) calculations were used to evaluate α s . The average α s values at Q 2 = (58 GeV) 2 from the analyses are α s = 0.125 ± 0.009 for NLLjet and α s = 0.132 ± 0.008 for the resummed analytic formulae.

An Improved measurement of R(b) using a double tagging method

Inspire Record 427104 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.47645

This paper describes an update of the double tagging measurement of the fraction, Rb, of Z0 → bb̅ events in hadronic Z0 decays, with statistics improved by including the data collected in 1994. The presence of electrons or muons from semileptonic decays of bottom hadrons and the detection of bottom hadron decay vertices were used together to obtain an event sample enriched in Z0 → bb̅ decays. The efficiency of the bb̅ event tagging was obtained from the data by comparing the numbers of events having a bottom signature in either one or both thrust hemispheres. Efficiency correlations between opposite event hemispheres are small (< 0.5%) and well understood through comparisons between the real and simulated data samples. A value of Rb= 0.2175 ± 0.0014 ± 0.0017 was obtained, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. The uncertainty on the decay width Γ(Z0 → cc̅) is not included in these errors. The result depends on Rc as follows: $${⩼ Delta R_{⤪ b}⩈er R_{⤪ b}}=-0.084{⩼ Delta R_{⤪ c}⩈er R_{⤪ c}},$$ where ΔRc is the deviation of Rc from the value 0.172 predicted by the Standard Model.

The inclusive production of the f ′ 2 (1525) in hadronic Z 0 decays has been studied in data collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP. The Ring Imaging Cherenkov detectors were important tools in the identification of the decay f ′ 2 (1525) → K + K − . The average number of f ′ 2 (1525) produced per hadronic Z decay, 〈f′ 2 〉 = 0.020 ± 0.005 (stat) ± 0.006 (syst), and the momentum distribution of the f ′ 2 (1525) have both been measured. The mass and width of the f ′ 2 (1525) are found to be 〈M f′ 2 〉 = 1535 ± 5 (stat) ± 4 (syst) MeV/c 2 , (T f′ 2 ;) = 60 ± 20 (stat) ± 19 (syst) MeV/c 2

We carried out the energy scan between E CM = 58 and 60 GeV at the TRISTAN e + e − collider to search for the possible narrow resonance suggested by the L3 experiment at LEP. The total cross sections are measured for γγ, multihadron, e + e − and μ + μ − production at ten energy points covering this energy range almost uniformly. The results are in good agreement with the Standard Model predictions, and 95% confidence level upper limits are set to Γ ee × BR of the hypothetical scalar and tensor resonances.

Production characteristics of K0 and light meson resonances in hadronic decays of the Z0

Z.Phys.C 65 (1995) 587-602, 1995.
Inspire Record 377487 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.48348

An analysis of inclusive production of K0 and the meson resonances K*±(892), ρ0(770),f0(975) andf2(1270) in hadronic decays of the Z0 is presented, based on about 973,000 multihadronic events collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP during 1991 and 1992. Overall multiplicities have been determined as 1.962±0.060 K0 mesons, 0.712±0.067 K*±(892) and 1.21±0.15ρ0(770) per hadronic Z0 decay. The average multiplicities off0(975) for scaled momentum,xp, in the range 0.05≤xp≤0.6 and off2(1270) for 0.05≤xp≤1.0 are 0.098±0.016 and 0.170±0.043 respectively. Thef0(975) and ρ0(770)xp-spectra have similar shapes. Thef2(1270)/ρ0(770) ratio increases withxp. The average multiplicities and the differential cross sections are compared with the JETSET Parton Shower model. The model with default parameters fails to reproduce the experimental K0 momentum spectrum at low momentum, describes the K*±(892) and ρ0(770)xp-spectrum shapes, but significantly overestimates their production rates.
