Topological and channel cross sections are given for the more common final states produced in K − p interactions at 8.25 GeV/ c together with the single particle inclusive cross sections. We present cross sections for prominent resonances occurring in final states K N (nπ) and find the resonance fractions to be roughly independent of multiplicity.

The energy dependence of the transverse momentum invariant distribution of pions and neutral kaons is studied in K − p interactions between 14.3 and 70 GeV/ c . The large P T part of the distributions violates the Feynman scaling and, above P T ≃ 1.5 GeV/ c , appears to be reasonably described by hard scattering models. The variation of the average transverse momentum is also studied as a function of the c.m. reduced longitudinal momentum, and its behaviour is compared to the data obtained via the hadronic shower produced in lepton-hadron interactions.

An experiment using the Fermilab Single Arm Spectrometer (SAS) facility and an associated nonmagnetic vertex detector studied the reactions a+p→c+X, where a and c were π±, K±, p, or p¯. Extensive measurements were made at 100 and 175 GeV/c beam momenta with the outgoing hadrons detected in the SAS covering a kinematic range 0.12<x<1.0 and pT<1.25 GeV/c. Additional data covering a more restricted range in x were also gathered at 70 GeV/c incident momentum. In this high-statistics experiment, the identification of both the incoming and outgoing charged hadrons were made with a total of eight Čerenkov counters. New and extensive single-particle inclusive data for charged-particle production in low-pT hadronic fragmentation are presented. The average associated charged-particle multiplicity and pseudorapidity distributions are also given.

The longitudinal momentum spectra of mesons produced in the projectile fragmentation region ofK−p interactions at 110 GeV/c, measured in a bubble chamber experiment, are compared to two fragmentation models related to hadron production by incident leptons. The models give a qualitative description of the data. However, it is found that the mesons having a valence quark in common with the projectile tend to have higher momenta than predicted.

Results are presented on the inclusive π ± production in K − p interactions at 32.1 GeV/ c . The invariant longitudinal distributions have been calculated both for π + and π − in the backward c.m. hemisphere and extrapolated in the forward hemisphere under some physical assumptions. The inclusive cross sections for π + and π − amount to 32.9 ± 1.5 mb and 35.0 ± 0.7 mb respectively. The energy dependence of the inclusive pion production has been analyzed in the framework of Mueller-Regge phenomenology both in the proton fragmentation and in the central region.

The inclusive cross section and the average multiplicity are evaluated for most of the charged ( π ± , p, K ± ) and neutral (γ, π 0 , K 0 , K 0 , Λ, Λ , n ) particles produced in 32 GeV/ c K − p interactions; corresponding results are obtained for each charged topology separately. New results are given for the total charged multiplicity cross sections. The average longitudinal momentum of neutrals is found to be roughly equal to that of charged particles. CHARGED+ HERE EXCLUDES PROTONS.
Results are presented on the inclusive production of π± mesons and protons in\(\bar p\)p interactions at an incident antiproton momentum of 32 GeV/c in the MIRABELLE bubble chamber, based on a sample of 55,000 inelastic events. The spectra of π+(π−) andp(\(\bar p\)) are separated in the whole kinematically admitted region of phase space by a statistical method. The semi-inclusive and inclusive cross sections and the main average characteristics of π andp production are calculated. The invariant differential cross sections are studied as functions of the Fevnman scaling variablex, the rapidity and the transverse momentum. Thex distribution of π± mesons in the proton fragmentation region does not show any significant contribution from quark exchange or annihilation processes. A possible contribution of hard quark scattering on mesons or baryons is observed for large transverse momenta.
