Central collisions of O16 nuclei with the Ag107 and Br80 nuclei in nuclear emulsion at 14.6, 60, and 200 GeV/nucleon are compared with proton-emulsion data at equivalent energies. The multiplicities of produced charged secondaries are consistent with the predictions of superposition models. At 200 GeV/nucleon the central particle pseudorapidity density is 58±2 for those events with multiplicities exceeding 200 particles.

The results of the multiplicity distributions of shower, grey, black, and heavily ionizing charged particles from induced16 reactions at 200A GeV are presented. The results are compared with the predictions of the Lund Monte Carlo code fritiof, the multichain model by Ranft, and the Monte Carlo code venus.

A search for direct electron pairs was performed at the 6.4 TeV 32 S emulsion interactions at CERN. A total of 81 directly produced electron pairs have been observed, with an average number per interaction of about two. The results have been analysed in the light of the predictions of quantum electrodynamical calculations. A simple interpretation for the extracted results based on the virtual mass distribution is presented. The experimental results are in partial agreement with the present theories. The virtual mass distribution does not show a 1/m behaviour.

We report the measurements on partial production cross sections of the multiple helium fragments emitted in the interactions of Si28 ions at 14.5A GeV in nuclear emulsion. Interaction mean free paths of the helium fragments have been investigated on the basis of helium multiplicity and size of the target nucleus as a function of the distance from their production points. Multiplicity scaling in the produced helium fragments is also observed.

Partial production cross sections of projectile alpha fragments produced in high-energy interactions of 16 O and 32 S at 200 GeV/n and 16 O at 60 GeV/n in emulsion are studied. Evidence of multiplicity scaling of such produced fragments is presented in the energy range 2–200 GeV/n for various projectiles.
