A search was made among ν μ charged current events collected in the NOMAD experiment for the reaction: ν μ +N→μ − +D ★+ + hadrons ↪ D 0 +π + ↪ K − +π + . A high purity D ★+ sample composed of 35 events was extracted. The D ★+ yield in ν μ charged current interactions was measured to be T =(0.79±0.17(stat.)±0.10(syst.))%. The mean fraction of the hadronic jet energy taken by the D ★+ is 0.67±0.02(stat.)±0.02(syst.). The distributions of the fragmentation variables z, P T 2 and x F for D ★+ are also presented.

Measurements of flux-normalized neutrino and antineutrino total charged-current cross sections (σ) in the energy range 45<E<205 GeV are presented. We see no evidence for the anomalous sharp rise in σν¯σν reported by earlier authors. The neutrino cross section rises linearly with energy and with σE about 18% smaller than other measurements below 10 GeV. The average antineutrino slope at 55 GeV is consistent with measurements at low energy; however, a (20 ± 10)% increase is indicated over our energy range.

We present results on flux-normalized neutrino and antineutrino cross sections near y=0 from data obtained in the Fermilab narrow-band beam. We conclude that values of σ0=dσdy|y=0 are consistent with rising linearly with energy over the range 45<~Eν<~20.5 GeV. The separate averages of ν and ν¯, each measured to 4%, are equal to well within the errors. The best fit for the combined data gives σ0E=(0.719±0.035)×10−38 cm2/GeV at an average Eν of 100 GeV.

We present a measurement of the muon neutrino-nucleon inclusive charged current cross-section, off an isoscalar target, in the neutrino energy range $2.5 \leq E_\nu \leq 40$ GeV. The significance of this measurement is its precision, $\pm 4$% in $2.5 \leq E_\nu \leq 10$ GeV, and $\pm 2.6$% in $10 \leq E_\nu \leq 40$ GeV regions, where significant uncertainties in previous experiments still exist, and its importance to the current and proposed long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments.

Relative rates for deep inelastic neutrino and antineutrino scattering without a finalstate muon have been measured. For neutrinos the result is Rν=σ(νμ+nucleon→νμ+hadrons)σ(νμ+nucleon→μ−+hadrons)=0.11±0.05. The corresponding ratio for antineutrinos is Rν¯=0.32±0.09.

We report here additional positive results of a search for muonless neutrino- and anti-neutrino-induced events using an enriched antineutrino beam and a muon identifier of relatively high geometric detection efficiency. The ratio of muonless to muon event rates is observed to be R=0.20±0.05. We observe no background derived from ordinary neutrino or antineutrino interactions that is capable of explaining the muonless signal.

Two different nuclear-medium effects are isolated using a low three-momentum transfer subsample of neutrino-carbon scattering data from the MINERvA neutrino experiment. The observed hadronic energy in charged-current $\nu_\mu$ interactions is combined with muon kinematics to permit separation of the quasielastic and $\Delta$(1232) resonance processes. First, we observe a small cross section at very low energy transfer that matches the expected screening effect of long-range nucleon correlations. Second, additions to the event rate in the kinematic region between the quasielastic and $\Delta$ resonance processes are needed to describe the data. The data in this kinematic region also has an enhanced population of multi-proton final states. Contributions predicted for scattering from a nucleon pair have both properties; the model tested in this analysis is a significant improvement but does not fully describe the data. We present the results as a double-differential cross section to enable further investigation of nuclear models. Improved description of the effects of the nuclear environment are required by current and future neutrino oscillation experiments.

A comprehensive study on the atmospheric neutrino flux in the energy region from sub-GeV up to several TeV using the Super-Kamiokande water Cherenkov detector is presented in this paper. The energy and azimuthal spectra of the atmospheric ${\nu}_e+{\bar{\nu}}_e$ and ${\nu}_{\mu}+{\bar{\nu}}_{\mu}$ fluxes are measured. The energy spectra are obtained using an iterative unfolding method by combining various event topologies with differing energy responses. The azimuthal spectra depending on energy and zenith angle, and their modulation by geomagnetic effects, are also studied. A predicted east-west asymmetry is observed in both the ${\nu}_e$ and ${\nu}_{\mu}$ samples at 8.0 {\sigma} and 6.0 {\sigma} significance, respectively, and an indication that the asymmetry dipole angle changes depending on the zenith angle was seen at the 2.2 {\sigma} level. The measured energy and azimuthal spectra are consistent with the current flux models within the estimated systematic uncertainties. A study of the long-term correlation between the atmospheric neutrino flux and the solar magnetic activity cycle is also performed, and a weak indication of a correlation was seen at the 1.1 {\sigma} level, using SK I-IV data spanning a 20 year period. For particularly strong solar activity periods known as Forbush decreases, no theoretical prediction is available, but a deviation below the typical neutrino event rate is seen at the 2.4 {\sigma} level.

Samples of 9200 muon-neutrino and 3800 muon-antineutrino interactions on nuclei were obtained with the fine-grain calorimeter of the CHARM Collaboration at the CERN 200 GeV narrow-band neutrino beam. The interactions were classified as either neutral-current or charged-current processes on an event-by-event basis. Neutral-current and charged-current cross sections in neutrino and antineutrino interactions are presented. From these results we deduce a statistically significant contribution of right-handed coupling to the neutral hadronic current, and a value of the electroweak mixing angle corresponding to sin 2 θ = 0.220 ± 0.014.

The charged-current cross sections for neutrinos and antineutrinos on nucleons in the energy range 20–200 GeV are given. Taken in conjunction with the previous Gargamelle results, they show that σ E is almost constant with energy for antineutrinos, and falls with energy for neutrinos. The value of 〈q 2 〉 E decreases with energy for both neutrinos and antineutrinos, and these deviations from exact Bjorken scaling are consistent with those observed in electron and muon inelastic scattering. We find no evidence for new heavy quark states with right-handed coupling.
