T2K reports its first measurements of the parameters governing the disappearance of $\bar{\nu}_\mu$ in an off-axis beam due to flavor change induced by neutrino oscillations. The quasimonochromatic $\bar{\nu}_\mu$ beam, produced with a peak energy of 0.6 GeV at J-PARC, is observed at the far detector Super-Kamiokande, 295 km away, where the $\bar{\nu}_\mu$ survival probability is expected to be minimal. Using a dataset corresponding to $4.01 \times 10^{20}$ protons on target, $34$ fully contained $\mu$-like events were observed. The best-fit oscillation parameters are $\sin^2 (\bar{\theta}_{23}) = 0.45$ and $|\Delta\bar{m}^2_{32}| = 2.51 \times 10^{-3}$ eV$^2$ with 68% confidence intervals of 0.38 - 0.64 and 2.26 - 2.80 $\times 10^{-3}$ eV$^2$ respectively. These results are in agreement with existing antineutrino parameter measurements and also with the $\nu_\mu$ disappearance parameters measured by T2K.

After completion of the data taking for the νμ→ντ oscillation search, the CHORUS lead–scintillator calorimeter was used in the 1998 run as an active target. High-statistics samples of charged-current interactions were collected in the CERN SPS west area neutrino beam. This beam contained predominantly muon (anti-)neutrinos from sign-selected pions and kaons. We measure the flux and energy spectrum of the incident neutrinos and compare them with beam simulations. The neutrino–nucleon and anti-neutrino–nucleon differential cross-sections are measured in the range 0.01<x<0.7 , 0.05<y<0.95 , 10<Eν<200 GeV . We extract the neutrino–nucleon structure functions F2(x,Q2) , xF3(x,Q2) , and R(x,Q2) and compare these with results from other experiments.

The charged-current cross sections for neutrinos and antineutrinos on nucleons in the energy range 20–200 GeV are given. Taken in conjunction with the previous Gargamelle results, they show that σ E is almost constant with energy for antineutrinos, and falls with energy for neutrinos. The value of 〈q 2 〉 E decreases with energy for both neutrinos and antineutrinos, and these deviations from exact Bjorken scaling are consistent with those observed in electron and muon inelastic scattering. We find no evidence for new heavy quark states with right-handed coupling.

We present a study of antineutrino interactions in hydrogen obtained in a 138000-picture run at the BNL 7-ft bubble chamber. The antineutrino beam had an energy distribution that peaked at ∼1.1 GeV. The cross section measured for charged-current interactions is σ(ν¯p→μ++anything)=(0.32±0.08)×10−38×[Eν¯ (GeV)] cm2. The neutral-current cross section is σ(ν¯p→ν¯pπ+π−)=5.5−2.6+4.4×10−40 cm2. The ratio of strangeness-changing to non-strangeness-changing charged currents is Rs=0.06−0.05+0.13. An upper limit determined for charm production is σc<3.8×10−40 cm2 at the 90% confidence level. From the momentum-transfer distribution we measure average Q2 for inelastic charged-current events with energy greater than 2 GeV, 〈Q2〉=(0.10±0.03)[Eν¯ (GeV)]+(0.10±0.09) (GeV/c)2. Using a maximum-likelihood method we determine from the quasielastic events ν¯p→μ+n an axial-vector mass MA=0.9−0.3+0.4 GeV/c2.

Total neutrino and antineutrino cross sections in the energy range 15 to 150 GeV, and the nucleon structure functions, F 2 ( x , Q 2 ) and xF 3 ( x , Q 2 ) in the Q 2 range 0.5 to 50 (GeV/ c ) 2 have been measured using a data sample of 3000 neutrino and 3800 antineutrino events. The structure functions show a weak Q 2 dependence at different x values.

Inclusive neutrino and antineutrino charged-current interactions were studied using the electronic detector of the CHARM Collaboration exposed to the narrow-band beam of the CERN SPS. The relative contributions of quarks and antiquarks to the neutrino cross sections were deduced from the differential cross sectionsdσ/d y . The x and Q 2 dependence of the structure functions F 2 and F 3 were measured. Scaling violations were observed, in qualitative agreement with QCD. A value of the mass scale parameter of QCD,Λ = [0.29 ± 0.12 (stat.) ± 0.10 (syst.)] GeV, was deduced in a leading-order approximation, following the method of Buras and Gaemers.

Measurements of flux-normalized neutrino and antineutrino total charged-current cross sections (σ) in the energy range 45<E<205 GeV are presented. We see no evidence for the anomalous sharp rise in σν¯σν reported by earlier authors. The neutrino cross section rises linearly with energy and with σE about 18% smaller than other measurements below 10 GeV. The average antineutrino slope at 55 GeV is consistent with measurements at low energy; however, a (20 ± 10)% increase is indicated over our energy range.

We present results on flux-normalized neutrino and antineutrino cross sections near y=0 from data obtained in the Fermilab narrow-band beam. We conclude that values of σ0=dσdy|y=0 are consistent with rising linearly with energy over the range 45<~Eν<~20.5 GeV. The separate averages of ν and ν¯, each measured to 4%, are equal to well within the errors. The best fit for the combined data gives σ0E=(0.719±0.035)×10−38 cm2/GeV at an average Eν of 100 GeV.

The ratios of neutral current to charged current cross sections of neutrino and antineutrino interactions in heavy Ne/H 2 mixture have been measured in BEBC. The beam was the CERN SPS 200 GeV/ c narrow band beam. The ratios were obtained using a cut in the transverse momentum of the hadronic system. In the standard Glashow-Salam-Weinberg model, our results correspond to the value of sin 2 θ w = 0.182 ± 0.020 ± 0.012. By combining this experiment with data from a hydrogen target the coupling constants u L 2 and L 2 are found to be 0.15 ± 0.04 and 0.19 ± 0.05, respectively.
