We have studied inclusive KS0, Λ, and Λ¯ production and strange-resonance production in the reactions pp→(KS0, Λ, or Λ¯)+π±+anything at 405 GeV/c. The observed cross sections are 7.43 ± 0.45 mb for KS0, 4.01 ± 0.35 mb for Λ, and 0.63 ± 0.12 mb for Λ¯. From the analyses of the effective-mass distributions for the (KS0π±), (Λπ±), and (Λ¯π±) systems, the resonance production cross sections are determined as 4.1 ± 1.0 mb for K*+(890), 3.6 ± 1.0 mb for K*−(890), 3.4 ± 1.7 mb for K*±(1420), 0.67 ± 0.12 mb for Σ+(1385), 0.45 ± 0.09 mb for Σ−(1385), and 0.25 ± 0.08 mb for Σ¯±(1385). The inclusive total and differential cross sections are discussed in comparison with data at lower energies. The direct production cross sections for pseudoscalar, vector, and tensor K mesons are estimated to be 2.3 ± 1.2, 3.4 ± 1.0, and 1.7 ± 0.8 mb, respectively. Direct pseudoscalar-K-meson production accounts for less than one-third of the total inclusive kaon production. Evidence of vector-meson dominance in inclusive meson production at high energy is indicated.

From analysis of V0 events observed in an exposure of the National Accelerator Laboratory 30-in. bubble chamber to 303−GeVc protons, we obtain these results: (1) 〈nπ0〉 rises approximately linearly with n-, implying strong coupling of neutral and charged pions, while 〈nKS0〉 is less coupled to n; (2) γ, KS0, and Λ0 production cross sections are approaching a scaling limit by 303 GeVc; (3) within the limited statistics, dσdy is flat in the central region for KS0 and low-multiplicity γ events.

Results on multiplicities, topological cross sections, total particle production cross sections, and correlations between charged particle and π 0 production are presented for pp interactions at 12 and 24 GeV/ c incident laboratory momentum. Results on K 0 and Λ production in p↑p interactions at 6 GeV are presented. The data are from an exposure of the Argonne 12 ft bubble chamber to a 60% transversely polarized proton beam. Results include data on Λ and K 0 inclusive production, and on the reactions p↑p → p Λ K + (p Σ 0 K + ). The beam asymmetry parameter for p ↑ p → K 0 ( K 0 ) + X is determined to be (−0.52 ± 0.12).

From a study of 1226 neutral strange particles produced in pp interactions at 69 GeV/ c in the MIRABELLE hydrogen bubble chamber, we obtain the inclusive cross sections for K S 0 , Λ / Σ 0 , Λ / Σ 0 equal to 3.43 ± 0.23, 3.44 ± 0.2 and 0.16 ± 0.03 mb, respectively. The inclusive distributions are compared with corresponding data at other energies.

We have measured cross section for γ , K S °, Λ and Λ production at 102 GeV/ c and find: σ ( γ ) = 170 ± 16 mb ., σ ( K S °) = 4.6 ± 0.5 mb ., σ ( Λ ) = 3.2 ± 0.4 mb ., and σ( Λ ) = 0.23 ± 0.10 mb. Both 〈 n π °〉 and 〈 n Ks °〉 appear to rise linearly with n - while the ratio 〈 n Ks °〉/〈 n π °〉 is approximately independent of n - . The integrated invariant cross section as a function of x as well as d σ /d y and d σ /d p T 2 are presented and compared with other data.

Transverse momentum distributions of λ o , λ o , and K o , produced in pp collisions at x = 0, have obtained at the CERN ISR. The K o yield is in agreement with published K + , K − results, obtained at this centre-of-mass energy (√ s ≈44 GeV). The results on λ o and λ o production obtained in this experiment are compared with results obtained at lower centre-of-mass energies.

Using a quark-diquark fragmentation model, in which either the Field-Feynman or the Lund model is coupled with a quark-diquark distribution function, we study transverse momentum distributions,pT, for the inclusive reactionspp→hadron +anything at 360 GeV/c. We find that a primordial mean transverse momentum 〈kT〉≃0.4 GeV/c can well reproduce thepT2 distributions of charged hadrons, π0,Ks0, Λ0,K* and Σ* and the Feynmanx−pT correlations. We confirm that a diquark in a proton plays an important rôle in reproducing thex−pT correlation of Λ0.

Results on cross sections, longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions forKs/0, Λ and\(\bar \Lambda \) production in 360GeV/cpp interactions are presented as obtained from EHS equipped with the Rapid Cycling Bubble Chamber (RCBC).
