Polarization of $\Lambda^\prime$s and $\bar{\Lambda}$-primes in $P P$, $\bar{P} P$, and $K^- P$ Interactions at 176-{GeV}/c

We have measured the polarization of Λ's in inclusive pp and K−p reactions and of Λ¯'s in p¯p interactions at a beam momentum of 176 GeV/c. Data were taken in the beam-fragmentation region with hyperon transverse momenta from 0.2 to 1.5 GeV/c. The P¯ produced Λ¯'s have the same magnitude and sign of polarization as the p-produced Λ's, whereas the Λ's from K−p interactions are more highly polarized and in the opposite direction.

We present a study of the inclusive reactions p p → K S 0 X, ΛX and Λ X at 3.6 GeV/ c based on 35.4 events/μb. The cross sections are presented in terms of the Feynman variable, rapidity and the transverse momentum. The absolute value of the Λ polarization is found to increase with increasing p T of Λ. A comparison of the inclusive productions of K S 0 in p p and e + e − is presented.

Significant differences are observed between forward-produced Δ ++ (1232) and Λ 0 's in pp interactions and their corresponding anti-particles in p p interactions, as expected from quark counting and single q q annihilation. The inclusiveKn, ¶,and\(\bar \Lambda\) production has been studied in a\(\bar pp\) experiment performed in the Mirabelle bubble chamber at an incident beam momentum of 32.1 GeV/c. Total, topological and differential cross sections are presented and compared with those obtained at other energies. The invariant structure functions have been parametrised in the fragmentation region by a power law and are consistent with the expectations based on quark counting rules.

A formation study of n anti-n interactions between 1.09 and 3.45 gev/c. ii. strange particles

A systematic study of p p and p d reactions producing strange particles between 1.09 and 3.45 GeV/ c has been completed. Reaction and resonance cross-section data are presented at 11 p p and 13 p d momentum settings. Evidence for a broad shoulder in the K K 3π final state near 1.8 GeV/ c is presented and contrasted to previously published work on a portion of the final data sample. No evidence for a p n → K 0 K − ω effect near 1.3 GeV/ c is found, ruling out an association of K K ω effects with the nearby isospin one enhancement in the total cross section. Finally, we find no evidence for a p p → K K ω enhancement near 1.8 GeV/ c .

We report on an experiment in which the SLAC 40-in. hybrid facility was exposed to an 8.8-GeV/c antiproton beam. Using external detectors we have identified a large fraction of nonannihilation events and thus obtained a clean sample of annihilation data. Using proton interactions taken in the same detector at the same energy we have made a detailed study of (p¯p−pp) differences and explored their relationship to p¯p annihilations.
