Results are presented on the inclusive production of π± mesons and protons in\(\bar p\)p interactions at an incident antiproton momentum of 32 GeV/c in the MIRABELLE bubble chamber, based on a sample of 55,000 inelastic events. The spectra of π+(π−) andp(\(\bar p\)) are separated in the whole kinematically admitted region of phase space by a statistical method. The semi-inclusive and inclusive cross sections and the main average characteristics of π andp production are calculated. The invariant differential cross sections are studied as functions of the Fevnman scaling variablex, the rapidity and the transverse momentum. Thex distribution of π± mesons in the proton fragmentation region does not show any significant contribution from quark exchange or annihilation processes. A possible contribution of hard quark scattering on mesons or baryons is observed for large transverse momenta.

Difference of nonannihilation anti-p p interactions at 22.4-GeV/c from p p interactions at close energy

Batyunya, B.V. ;
JINR-1-89-28, 1989.
Inspire Record 292242 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.54979

The longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions of protons and π±-mesons, produced and pp interactions at close energy (22-24 GeV), are compared. The existence of a difference between these (P<1.2 GeV/c in laboratory system) and for mesons accompaying them, is shown. The observed difference increases with increasing the multiplicity of charged particles. For π+ mesons it increases with decreasing the momentum of accompaying protons. These effects do not practically exist for π- mesons

Cross-sections for deuterium, tritium, and helium production in p p collisions at s = 1.8-TeV

We present the results of a search for the production of light elements in p¯p collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. Momentum, time of flight, and dE/dx measurements are used to distinguish nuclei from elementary particles. A production ratio for deuterium to hydrogen is calculated and compared to the primordial value of the big bang model. Some evidence for tritium is found and none for helium isotopes.

Measurements of single diffraction at s**(1/2) = 630-GeV: Evidence for a nonlinear alpha(t) of the Pomeron

We report measurements of the inclusive differential cross section for the single-diffractive reactions: p + pbar --> p + X and p + pbar --> X + pbar at sqrt(s) = 630 GeV, in the momentum transfer range, 0.8 < -t < 2.0 GeV^2 and final state Feynman-x > 0.90. Based on the assumption of factorization, several new features of the Pomeron Flux Factor are determined from simultaneous fits to our UA8 data and lower energy data from the CHLM collaboration at the CERN-Intersecting Storage Rings. Prominent among these is that the effective Pomeron Regge trajectory requires a term quadratic in t, with coefficient, a'' = 0.079 +- 0.012 GeV^{-4}. We also show that the data require a Pomeron-proton cross section that first decreases with increasing diffractive mass (corresponding to the PPR term in the triple-Regge expansion) and then increases at larger mass (the PPP term), similar to real particle total cross sections. We measure the product, (K x sigma0) = 0.72 +- 0.10 mb/GeV^2, where K is the normalization constant of the Pomeron Flux Factor in the proton and sigma0 is the scale constant in the Pomeron-proton total cross section. Finally, we report the occurence of ``beam jets'' in the Pomeron direction in the rest frame of the diffractive system.

Single Particle Inclusive Spectra of Charged Particles in anti-p p Interactions at 22.4-GeV/c

The inclusive spectra for p p collisions at 22.4 GeV/ c are investigated. We show that the transverse momentum distributions resemble those in high-energy pp interactions and discuss the influence of annihilation processes on the p T 2 distributions. The invariant inclusive cross section for pions in the central region is found to be 28 ± 1 mb. A charge asymmetry is indicated by the y ∗ spectrum in the central region, the asymmetry parameter having the value 0.15 ± 0.01. Finally, we estimate the upper limit of the diffraction dissociation of the beam particle to be 3.68 −0.15 +0.45 mb.
