Measurements are reported of inclusive production of π0-mesons in the beam fragmentation region in γp, πp andKp collisions. Results include the ratio of π0 production inKp and πp collisions, showing reduced production from fragmentation of theK-meson, and the ratio of π0 production in photon and hadron collisions which shows agreement with modified Vector Meson Dominance at lowPT, and departures at higherPT signalling the onset of direct photon reactions. The pattern of departure from Feynman scaling at highPT points to a contribution of hard parton-parton collisions in both γp and πp collisions.

The inclusive production of vector mesons (charged ρ(770), ω(783), ϕ(1020) and neutralK*(892)) in π−p interactions at 360 GeV/c is studied. The data are based on 160 000 reconstructed events recorded in the NA 27 Experiment using the LEBC-EHS facility at CERN. The production cross sections in the forward hemisphere in c.m.s. and the longitudinal momentum distributions are determined. The results are compared with data obtained at lower energies.

Invariant cross sections for γ, K s 0 , Λ 0 and Λ 0 production are presented in terms of Feynman x , the rapidity y , and transverse momentum squared, p T 2 . A comparison of the observed γ spectrum is made with the spectra computed assuming that the π 0 momentum distribution is identical to that of the observed π + or π − .
