Elastic anti-proton-deuteron scattering below 1.0 gev/c

We present differential cross sections for elastic p d scattering at beam momenta 0.735 and 0.940 GeV/ c and momentum transfers in the range 0.04<| t |<0.5(GeV/ c ) 2 . The p d elastic differential cross section is expressed in terms of a deutron form factor and the I =0 t -channel exchange N N amplitudes, enabling us to isolate the corresponding I =0 t -channel exchange cross sections.

K- d elastic scattering at 727 mev/c

The differential cross section has been measured using 940 events from the BNL 30-inch deuterium bubble chamber. Events were selected without regard to length of the deuteron, and so wide-angle scatters are included. The data are fitted well by a Glauber model with reasonable assumptions about the parameters.

The reaction k+ d ---> k0 p p at 4.6 gev/c

In an experiment with the CERN 2m deuterium bubble chamber the reaction K + d→K o pp (1) and the related reaction K + n→K o p (2) are studied at an incident momentum of 4.6 GeV/ c . The cross section for the latter reaction is found to be slightly larger than the cross section for the reaction K − p → K o n at the same energy. The corresponding differential cross sections agree within the rather large uncertainties. The forward amplitude for reaction (2) is predominantly real. Moreover, the total and forward differential charge exchange cross section values are compatible with those predicted on the basis of an SU (3) sum rule. A comparison of the K ± -charge exchange differential cross sections with the predictions of a Regge pole model is also presented.

Single photoproduction of neutral pi mesons on hydrogen in the forward direction at 4 gev

The differential cross section of the reaction γ p → π 0 p has been measured at the Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron DESY, Hamburg, at a mean photon energy of 4.0 GeV in the four-momentum transfer range between t = −0.2 (GeV/ c ) 2 and t = −1,2 (GeV/ c ) 2 in steps of approximately 0.08 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The experiment was carried out in connection with the measurements of the photoproduction of π 0 mesons on deuterium, which were described in the preceding article. In the present paper the contributions arising from background reactions are discussed in more detail.

Production of k*(890)- and k*(1420)- in the reaction k- p ---> (k pi)- p at 25 and 40 gev/c

The reaction K − p → X K − p has been measured at 25 and 40 GeV/ c at the Serpukhov accelerator using the CERN-IHEP boson spectrometer. At both energies we observe production of the resonances K ∗− (890) and K ∗− (1420) in the channels K ∗− → K 0 π − and K − π 0 ; the momentum dependence of their production cross sections is found to be σ[ K ∗− (890)] ∞ p inc −1.48±0.04 and σ [ K ∗− (1420)] ∞ p inc −0.8±0.2 .

Neutron-proton elastic scattering from 10 to 24 gev/c

The neutron-proton elastic differential cross section has been measured with high statistics for incident momenta between 10 and 24 GeV/ c using wire spark chambers for the neutron detection. The t -range covered by previous experiments could thus be extended to 0.06–3 (GeV/ c ) 2 . In this t -interval the np cross section is found to be very similar to the corresponding pp cross section.

Photoproduction of pi+ mesons on polarized protons at photon energies between 0.5 and 2.2 gev

The target asymmetry T = ( σ ↑ − σ ↓)/( σ ↑ + σ ↓) for the reaction γ p → π + n has been measured at the Bonn 2.5 GeV electron synchrotron for a pion c.m. angle of 40° and γ energies between 0.5 and 2.2 GeV. Butanol was used as the target material. About 35% of the protons could be polarized using the dynamic-polarization method in a continuous-flow cryostat operating at 1°K and 25 kG. The π + mesons were detected in a magnetic-spectrometer system. Considerable structure in the asymmetry was observed.

A systematic study of p p and p d resonance production cross sections in non-strange annihilation channels between 1.51 and 2.90 GeV/ c has been completed. The data have been analysed in relation to the three known structures at c.m. N N energies of 2190, 2350 and 2375 MeV. Several resonance intermediate states may have broad maxima near the isopin one 2350 MeV structure. However, more data below 1.6 GeV/ c are required to better describe the background in this region before firm conclusions may be drawn.

Elastic anti-p d scattering at 5.55 gev/c incident momentum

Based on 150 000 photographs taken at the ZGS with the 30 inch deuterium-filled chamber we present an analysis of the elastic p d scattering reaction. Due to unrecoreded small deuteron recoils we were only able to measure the elastic cross section in the four-momentum region | t | > 0.03 (GeV/ c ) 2 . Extrapolation towards small | t | by two different methods gave us two compatible estimates of the total elastic cross section. The differential cross section was analyzed by means of the Glauber formalism both with and without the effects due to the D-wave part of the deuteron wave function. The differential cross sections of np at 5.4 GeV/ c and pn deduced from our data were compared and exhibit a crossover phenomenon.

One pion production in pp collisions at 16.2 gev/c

A study of pp interactions at an incident momentum of 16.2 GeV/ c leading to two-prong non-strange final states was carried out in an exposure of the 2m CERN hydrogen bubble chamber. The c.m. angle and momentum distributions for the outgoing particles in the final states pn π + and pp π 0 are presented and discussed. These final states were analysed in terms of quasi two-body final states - N(Nπ), with the pion-nucleon system in an I = 1 2 or I = 3 2 state. A determination of these two isospin amplitudes and their interference term is then carried out. The reaction pp → pn π + is found to be well described by a Reggeized exchange model, as well as by a double Regge-exchange model.
