Data collected in the experiment R704 at the CERN ISR are used to study the annihilation process p p → π 0 π 0 at several centre-of-mass energies between 2.97 and 3.56 GeV. A total sample of 7359 events has been identified, from which cross sections and angular distributions in the interval 0 < | cos θ ∗ | < 0.5 have been measured.

Distributions of charged hadrons observed in deep-inelastic muon deuterium scattering at 490-GeV

Phys.Lett.B 272 (1991) 163-168, 1991.
Inspire Record 318993 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29288

Longitudinal and transverse momentum spectra of final state hadrons produced in deep-inelastic muon-deuterium scattering at incident muon energy of 490 GeV have been measured up to a hadronic center of mass energy of 30 GeV. The longitudinal distributions agree well with data from earlier muon-nucleon scattering experiments; these distributions tend to increase in steepness as the center of mass energy increases. Comparisons with e + e − data at comparable center of mass energies indicate slight differences. The transverse momentum distributions show an increase in mean p T 2 with an increase in the center of mass energy.

A Measurement of the b anti-b forward backward asymmetry using the semileptonic decay into muons

The DELPHI collaboration Abreu, P. ; Adam, W. ; Adami, F. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 276 (1992) 536-546, 1992.
Inspire Record 322498 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29264

The forward-backward asymmetry of bottom quarks is measured with statistics of approximately 80 000 hadronic Z 0 decays produced in e + e − collisions at a centre of mass energy of √ s ≈ M z . The tagging of b quark events has been performed using the semileptonic decay channel b→X+ μ . Because the asymmetry depends on the weak coupling, this leads to a precise measurement of the electroweak mixing angle sin 2 θ w . The experimental result is A FB b = 0.115±0.043(stat.)±0.013(syst.). After correcting the value for the B 0 B 0 mixing this becomes A FB b =0.161±0.060(stat.)±0.021(syst.) corresponding to sin 2 θ W MS =0.221±0.011( stat. )±0.004( syst. ) .

Production of strange particles in the hadronic decays of the Z0

The DELPHI collaboration Abreu, P. ; Adam, W. ; Adami, F. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 275 (1992) 231-242, 1992.
Inspire Record 322503 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29267

An analysis of the production of strange particles from the decays of the Z 0 boson into multihadronic final states is presented. The analysis is based on about 90 000 selected hadronic Z 0 decays collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP in 1990. K s 0 , K ∗± , Λ( Λ ) and Ξ − ( Ξ + ) have been identified by their characteristic decays. The measured production cross sections are compared with predictions of the Lund Monte Carlo tuned to data at PEP/PETRA energies.

Polarization transfer in quasifree (p, n) reactions at 495 MeV

Phys.Rev.C 47 (1993) 2159, 1993.
Inspire Record 369336 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.26026

A complete set of polarization-transfer observables has been measured for quasifree (p→,n→) reactions on H2, C12, and Ca40 at a bombarding energy of 495 MeV and a laboratory scattering angle of 18°. The data span an energy-loss range from 0 to 160 MeV, with a corresponding momentum transfer range of qc.m.=1.7–1.9 fm−1. The laboratory observables are used to construct partial cross sections proportional to the nonspin response and three orthogonal spin responses. These results are compared to the transverse spin response measured in deep inelastic electron scattering and to nuclear responses based on the random phase approximation. The polarization observables for all three targets are remarkably similar and reveal no evidence for an enhancement of the spin-longitudinal nuclear response relative to the spin-transverse response. These results suggest the need for substantial modifications to the standard form assumed for the residual particle-hole interaction.

Study of electron pair production below the Z mass at the CERN anti-p p collider

The UA2 collaboration Alitti, J. ; Ambrosini, G. ; Ansari, R. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 275 (1992) 202-208, 1992.
Inspire Record 322265 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27115

Results on the cross section for the production of electron pairs in p p collisions at √ s = 630 GeV are presented. The measured value is σ = 405 ± 51 (syst.) ± 84 (syst.) pb, in the invariant mass interval 10 < m < 70 GeV. The results are compared to recent theoretical calculations which include O( α s 2 ) QCD contributions. The comparison of these data with those of lower energy experiments show approximate scaling as a function of the variable √τ = m √s .

Ratio of J / psi production cross-sections in deep inelastic muon scattering from tin and carbon

The New Muon collaboration Amaudruz, P. ; Arneodo, M. ; Arvidson, A. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 371 (1992) 553-566, 1992.
Inspire Record 322307 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.32968

We present results on J/ψ production in muon interactions with tin and carbon targets at incident muon energies of 200 and 280 GeV. The ratio of cross sections per nucleon for J/ψ production on tin and carbon, R (Sn/C), is studied as a function of p T 2 , z and x . We find an enhancement for coherent J/ψ production R coh (Sn/C) = 1.54 ± 0.07, a suppression for quasielastic production R qe (Sn/C) = 0.79 ± 0.06 and for inelastic production R in (Sn/C) = 1.13 ± 0.08. The inelastic cross section ratio can be interpreted within the Colour Singlet model as an enhancement of the gluon distribution in tin with respect to that in carbon. The dependence of the ratio on z and p T 2 can explain the discrepancy between the results obtained in previous experiments.

A Study of charged particle multiplicities in hadronic decays of the Z0

Z.Phys.C 53 (1992) 539-554, 1992.
Inspire Record 321190 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.14774

We present an analysis of multiplicity distributions of charged particles produced inZ0 hadronic decays. The results are based on the analysis of 82941 events collected within 100 MeV of theZ0 peak energy with the OPAL detector at LEP. The charged particle multiplicity distribution, corrected for initial-state radiation and for detector acceptance and resolution, was found to have a mean 〈nch〉=21.40±0.02(stat.)±0.43(syst.) and a dispersionD=6.49±0.02(stat.)±0.20(syst.). The shape is well described by the Lognormal and Gamma distributions. A negative binomial parameterisation was found to describe the shape of the multiplicity distribution less well. A comparison with results obtained at lower energies confirms the validity of KNO(-G) scaling up to LEP energies. A separate analysis of events with low sphericity, typically associated with two-jet final states, shows the presence of features expected for models based on a stochastic production mechanism for particles. In all cases, the features observed in the data are well described by the Lund parton shower model JETSET.
