Charm-charm correlation properties are studied in detail for the first time using a sample of D D pairs produced in 360 GeV/ c π − p interactions. The data are compared with various models of charm production.
A determination of branching ratios for D meson decays into all charged particle final states is reported. The values obtained: (D ± → K ∓ π ± π ± /all D ± ) = (14 ± 6)% and ( D 0 /D 0 → K ± π ∓ π + π − /all D 0 /D 0 ) = (10 ± 4)%, are higher than those currently accepted. This result, if confirmed, implies a corresponding reduction in the accepted values for some total cross section measurements. Revised inclusive cross sections for D meson production in the forward hemisphere in π − p and pp interactions at 360 GeV/ c , are presented.

We have measured the inclusive production properties of D and D messons produced from pp interactions at s =27.4 GeV . The differential production cross section is well represented by the empirical form d 2 σ d x F d P 2 T = 1 2 [σ ( D / D )(n+1)b](1−|x F |) n exp (−bp 2 T ) with n=4.9 ± 0.5, b=(1.0±0.1)( GeV /c) −2 , and the inclusive D / D cross section σ ( D / D ) is (30.2±3.3) ωb. The QCD fusion model predicts D / D production which is in good agreement with our data except for the magnitude of the cross section which depends sensitively on the assumed mass of the charm quark.

Results of fitting the differential distributions in x F and p T 2 of D mesons produced in 400 GeV/ c p-p interactions to the form d 2 σ d x F d p T 2 ∝(1−x F ) n exp [−(p T 2 /〈p T 2 〉)] are discussed. The D + distribution is found to be relatively hard [ n =3.1±0.8〈 P t 2 〉=1.32±0.27 (GeV/ c ) 2 ] and the D̄ 0 distribution relatively soft [ n =8.1±1.9,〈 p T 2 〉=0.62±0.14 (GeV/ c ) 2 ] compared to the average for all D's [ n =4.9±0.5,〈 p T 2 〉=0.99±0.10 (GeV/ c ) 2 ]. It is suggested that these distributions could reflect contribution of leading di-quarks in pp collisions. Comparison is made with evidence for leading quarks in charm production in 360 GeV/ cπ − p interactions.
The invariant (C=INV) and non-invariant (C=NON-INV) distributions are fitted to (1-XL)**POWER. Pt distribution is fitted to EXP(-PT**2/SLOPE).
The Mark II detector at SPEAR has been used to study D-meson production in e+e− annihilation at center-of-mass energies between 3.8 and 6.7 GeV. The neutral and charged D mesons are identified from their K∓π± and K∓π±π± decay modes. Measurements of RD and of the inclusive differential cross section s dσdz are presented. The quasi-two-body cross sections σDD¯, σD*D¯, and σD*D¯* are derived from an overall fit to the D recoil spectra. No evidence was found for the associated production of charmed mesons and charmed baryons.

We report evidence for the production of the charged D ∗ mesons in pp̄ collisions at s = 540 GeV . The search was confined to the charged particle fragments of hadronic jets, which are expected to be predominantly gluon jets in this experiment. The fragmentation function and production rate for D ∗ in jets of average transverse momentum of 28 GeV/ c are given.

Measurements of the energy and t dependence of diffractive Jψ photoproduction are presented. A significant rise in the cross section over the energy range 60-300 GeV is observed. It is found that (30±4)% of the events are inelastic.
The PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider has measured the differential cross section, mean transverse momentum, mean transverse momentum squared of inclusive $J/\psi$ and cross-section ratio of $\psi(2S)$ to $J/\psi$ at forward rapidity in \pp collisions at \sqrts = 510 GeV via the dimuon decay channel. Comparison is made to inclusive $J/\psi$ cross sections measured at \sqrts = 200 GeV and 2.76--13 TeV. The result is also compared to leading-order nonrelativistic QCD calculations coupled to a color-glass-condensate description of the low-$x$ gluons in the proton at low transverse momentum ($p_T$) and to next-to-leading order nonrelativistic QCD calculations for the rest of the $p_T$ range. These calculations overestimate the data at low $p_T$. While consistent with the data within uncertainties above $\approx3$ GeV/$c$, the calculations are systematically below the data. The total cross section times the branching ratio is BR $d\sigma^{J/\psi}_{pp}/dy (1.2<|y|<2.2, 0<p_T<10~\mbox{GeV/$c$}) =$ 54.3 $\pm$ 0.5 (stat) $\pm$ 5.5 (syst) nb.

We report on a polarization measurement of inclusive $J/\psi$ mesons in the di-electron decay channel at mid-rapidity at 2 $<p_{T}<$ 6 GeV/$c$ in $p+p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 200 GeV. Data were taken with the STAR detector at RHIC. The $J/\psi$ polarization measurement should help to distinguish between different models of the $J/\psi$ production mechanism since they predict different $p_{T}$ dependences of the $J/\psi$ polarization. In this analysis, $J/\psi$ polarization is studied in the helicity frame. The polarization parameter $\lambda_{\theta}$ measured at RHIC becomes smaller towards high $p_{T}$, indicating more longitudinal $J/\psi$ polarization as $p_{T}$ increases. The result is compared with predictions of presently available models.
The $\jpsi$ $\pt$ spectrum and nuclear modification factor ($\raa$) are reported for $\pt < 5 \ \gevc$ and $|y|<1$ from 0\% to 60\% central Au+Au and Cu+Cu collisions at $\snn = 200 \ \gev$ at STAR. A significant suppression of $\pt$-integrated $\jpsi$ production is observed in central Au+Au events. The Cu+Cu data are consistent with no suppression, although the precision is limited by the available statistics. $\raa$ in Au+Au collisions exhibits a strong suppression at low transverse momentum and gradually increases with $\pt$. The data are compared to high-$\pt$ STAR results and previously published BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider results. Comparing with model calculations, it is found that the invariant yields at low $\pt$ are significantly above hydrodynamic flow predictions but are consistent with models that include color screening and regeneration.
We present a measurement of inclusive $J/\psi$ production at mid-rapidity ($|y|<1$) in $p+p$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}$ = 200 GeV with the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The multiplicity dependence of J/$\psi$ production in p+p collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 200 GeV. Purple circles, blue squares, and red triangles represent the results for J/$\psi$ with $p_{T}$ greater than 0, 1.5, and 4 GeV/c, respectively. Bars and open boxes are statistical and systematic uncertainties, respectively. The ALICE result is shown in the left panel. The purple, blue and red bands in the middle panel are generated from PYTHIA8 for J/$\psi$ with $p_{T}$ greater than 0, 1.5, and 4 GeV/c, respectively. The blue and red bands in the right panel are from EPOS3 model calculations for D$^{0}$ with 2 < $p_{T}$ < 4 and 4 < $p_{T}$ < 8 GeV/c, respectively, while the green curve is from the Percolation model for J/$\psi$ with $p_{T}$ > 0 GeV/c.
The ALICE experiment has measured the inclusive J/$\psi$ production in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}} } = 2.76$ TeV down to zero transverse momentum in the rapidity range $2.5 < y < 4$. A suppression of the inclusive J/$\psi$ yield in Pb-Pb is observed with respect to the one measured in pp collisions scaled by the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions. The nuclear modification factor, integrated over the 0-80% most central collisions, is $0.545 \pm 0.032 \rm{(stat.)} \pm 0.083 \rm{(syst.)}$ and does not exhibit a significant dependence on the collision centrality. These features appear significantly different from measurements at lower collision energies. Models including J/$\psi$ production from charm quarks in a deconfined partonic phase can describe our data.
About 100 000 pictures, with an average of ∼12K + per picture, taken in the 81 cm Saclay deuterium bubble chamber exposed to a separated 3 GeV/c K + beam have been analysed for the reaction K + d→K 0 pp in the 1-prong V 0 and 2-prong V 0 topologies. 214 such events have been found allowing a determination of the differential cross-section. A comparison with the prediction of Rarita and Schwarzschild yields reasonable agreement; in particular a large real part is inferred for the amplitude for the reaction K + n→K 0 p.

We present data on inclusive production ofK+ andKS0 mesons in a 70 GeV/cK+p experiment performed in BEBC filled withH2. Cross sections and inclusive Feynman-x distributions for identifiedK+'s andKS0's are presented. The spectra of “prompt” non-diffractiveKS0 are determined by subtraction of the decay products of prominent resonances and diffractive contributions. These data, contrary to the overall inclusive spectra, allow to differentiate between some fragmentation models for soft hadron-hadron interactions.

We have measured the cross section at 180° for K + p and K + n elastic scattering in the momentum range 1.0 to 1.5 GeV/ c . The K + n cross section was measured on deuterium and the K + p on hydrogen and deuterium. We were thus able to measure directly the difference between free nucleon (proton) scattering and bound nucleon (proton) scattering at large angles. This difference was found to be small and within our experimental accuracy the K + p(n) cross section should be equal to the K + p (free) cross section at 180°. We found no evidence for an s -channel resonance Z ∗ in either the K + p or K + n system. A comparison of our data and those of other groups with theoretical predictions is given.

Measurements of $\gamma p \rightarrow K^{+} \Lambda$ and $\gamma p \rightarrow K^{+} \Sigma^0$ cross-sections have been obtained with the photon tagging facility and the Crystal Ball calorimeter at MAMI-C. The measurement uses a novel $K^+$ meson identification technique in which the weak decay products are characterized using the energy and timing characteristics of the energy deposit in the calorimeter, a method that has the potential to be applied at many other facilities. The fine center-of-mass energy ($W$) resolution and statistical accuracy of the new data results in a significant impact on partial wave analyses aiming to better establish the excitation spectrum of the nucleon. The new analyses disfavor a strong role for quark-diquark dynamics in the nucleon.
1691 events were fitted to K - p elastic scatters at a K - momentum of 3.46 GeV/ c . The differential cross sections for K − p and p p elastic scattering have been measured over the range of four-momentum transfer squared 0.18<− t <3.3 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The K − p data decrease smoothly as a function of − t , whereas, the p p data shows a break at − t = 0.6 (GeV/ c ) 2 followed by a fast drop to − t ≅ 1.6 (GeV/ c ) 2 where the differential cross section levels off and stays constant out to − t = 3 (GeV/ c ) 2 .

K − p elastic scattering at 10 GeV/ c is studied on ∼3600 bubble chamber events. The elastic cross section is found to be σ el = (3.20 ± 0.14)mb and the ratio σ el σ tot = (0.142 ± 0.006) , that is below the upper limit of 0.185 suggested in a model by Van Hove. The value of the forward differential cross section is consistent with zero real part to the scattering amplitude. The slope of d σ d t is similar to that for π ± and greater than that of K + , with no evidence for shrinkage of the diffraction peak. No events of backward scattering were observed. The Regge-pole model of Phillips and Rarita gives a good fit to the data.

At an incident kaon momentum of 2.66 GeV/ c we have measured the total and elastic cross sections to be 30.2 and 5.70 mb respectively. The elastic scattering angular distribution is dominated by a single diffraction peak; and when this peak is fit to an exponential in momentum transfer t , the first order term is both necessary and sufficient. This fit evaluated at t =0 is consistent with a purely imaginary forward scattering amplitude. Our data when compared with that of others indicates no shrinkage of the diffraction peak. The entire angular distribution was also fit to a Legendre series, with order 9 being required to represent the data.
Axis error includes +- 0.0/0.0 contribution (?////).
Inclusive K 0 -production has been measured in e + e - annihilation at a center of mass energy of about W = 30 GeV. The ratio of K 0 + K 0 production to μ + μ - production is R K 0 = 5.6 ± 1.1 (statist. error) ± 0.8 (system.error) This value is about a factor of three higher than R K 0 at W = 7 GeV. The cross sections ( s / β ) d σ /d x is consistent with a scaling behaviour.

We have searched for resonance production in the reaction γγ→Ks0Kπ. No signal was found for theηc and an upper limit for the radiative with\(\Gamma _{\gamma \gamma }^{\eta _c } \) keV (95% c.l.) is obtained. For the glueball candidate η(1440) (previouslyi) the upper limit\(\Gamma _{\gamma \gamma }^{\eta (1440)} B(\eta (1440) \to K\bar K\pi )< 1.2keV(95\% c.l.)\) is derived. In the tagged data sample resonance formation of a spin 1 state at 1420 MeV is observed, which is absent in the untagged data. The mass and width of this state are consistent with those of thef1(1420); an analysis of decay angular distributions favours positive parity.

We report the measurement of $K^{*0}$ meson at midrapidity ($|y|<$ 1.0) in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$~=~7.7, 11.5, 14.5, 19.6, 27 and 39 GeV collected by the STAR experiment during the RHIC beam energy scan (BES) program. The transverse momentum spectra, yield, and average transverse momentum of $K^{*0}$ are presented as functions of collision centrality and beam energy. The $K^{*0}/K$ yield ratios are presented for different collision centrality intervals and beam energies. The $K^{*0}/K$ ratio in heavy-ion collisions are observed to be smaller than that in small system collisions (e+e and p+p). The $K^{*0}/K$ ratio follows a similar centrality dependence to that observed in previous RHIC and LHC measurements. The data favor the scenario of the dominance of hadronic re-scattering over regeneration for $K^{*0}$ production in the hadronic phase of the medium.

The $\textit{template}$ method was used to extract the $K^{*}(892)^0$ signal and double differential transverse momentum and rapidity spectra were obtained. The full phase-space mean multiplicity of $K^{*}(892)^0$ mesons was found to be $(78.44 \pm 0.38 \mathrm{(stat)} \pm 6.0 \mathrm{(sys)) \cdot 10^{-3}}$. We present results from CDF and D\O\ on $W\gamma$ and $Z\gamma$ productions in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.8{\rm TeV}.$ The goal of the analyses is to test the non-abelian self-couplings of the $W$, $Z$ and photon, one of the most direct consequences of the $SU(2)_L\otimes U(1)_Y$ gauge symmetry. The ATLAS Collaboration has measured the inclusive production of $Z$ bosons via their decays into electron and muon pairs in $p+$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.02$ TeV at the Large Hadron Collider. The measurements are made using data corresponding to integrated luminosities of 29.4 nb$^{-1}$ and 28.1 nb$^{-1}$ for $Z \rightarrow ee$ and $Z \rightarrow \mu\mu$, respectively. The results from the two channels are consistent and combined to obtain a cross section times the $Z \rightarrow \ell\ell$ branching ratio, integrated over the rapidity region $|y^{*}_{Z}|<3.5$, of 139.8 $\pm$ 4.8 (stat.) $\pm$ 6.2 (syst.) $\pm$ 3.8 (lumi.) nb. Differential cross sections are presented as functions of the $Z$ boson rapidity and transverse momentum, and compared with models based on parton distributions both with and without nuclear corrections. The centrality dependence of $Z$ boson production in $p+$Pb collisions is measured and analyzed within the framework of a standard Glauber model and the model's extension for fluctuations of the underlying nucleon-nucleon scattering cross section.

Measurements of $ZZ$ production in the $\ell^{+}\ell^{-}\ell^{\prime +}\ell^{\prime -}$ channel in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV center-of-mass energy at the Large Hadron Collider are presented. The data correspond to 36.1 $\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of collisions collected by the ATLAS experiment in 2015 and 2016. Here $\ell$ and $\ell'$ stand for electrons or muons. Integrated and differential $ZZ \to \ell^{+}\ell^{-}\ell^{\prime +}\ell^{\prime -}$ cross sections with $Z \to \ell^+\ell^-$ candidate masses in the range of 66 GeV to 116 GeV are measured in a fiducial phase space corresponding to the detector acceptance and corrected for detector effects. The differential cross sections are presented in bins of twenty observables, including several that describe the jet activity. The integrated cross section is also extrapolated to a total phase space and to all Standard-Model decays of $Z$ bosons with mass between 66 GeV and 116 GeV, resulting in a value of $17.3 \pm 0.9$ [$\pm 0.6$ (stat.) $\pm 0.5$ (syst.) $\pm 0.6$ (lumi.)] pb. The measurements are found to be in good agreement with the Standard-Model predictions. A search for neutral triple gauge couplings is performed using the transverse momentum distribution of the leading $Z$-boson candidate. No evidence for such couplings is found and exclusion limits are set on their parameters.

The production of Λ hyperons in e+e− annihilation has been measured as a function of their total momenta, transverse momenta, and the event thrust. The total production rate is 0.213±0.012±0.018 Λ or Λ¯ per hadronic event. The observation of correlations in rapidity and angles for events with two detected Λ decays supports fragmentation models with local baryon-number compensation.

The result of a feasibility study to measure the Λ polarization in associated K + – Λ electro-production is presented. This measurement was performed in the experimental Hall C at Jefferson Lab. The scattered electron was detected in the HMS spectrometer, and the electro-produced kaon and the proton from the Λ → pπ − decay were both detected in the SOS spectrometer. This quantity is very sensitive to the elementary p ( e , e ′ K ) Λ process and gives information on resonance production, and Regge exchange, among others. The result presented was measured at Q 2 =1.50 (GeV/c) 2 and cos θ Kγ CM =14°. The limits of the Λ polarization, with respect to the p γ × p K axis, were found to be −0.21 and +0.89 with a confidence level of 68%. The result is compared to theoretical predictions based on an effective hadronic field Lagrangian model and a Regge framework model.

The first measurements of the scattering parameters of $\Lambda$K pairs in all three charge combinations ($\Lambda$K$^{+}$, $\Lambda$K$^{-}$, and $\Lambda\mathrm{K^{0}_{S}}$) are presented. The results are achieved through a femtoscopic analysis of $\Lambda$K correlations in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV recorded by ALICE at the LHC. The femtoscopic correlations result from strong final-state interactions, and are fit with a parametrization allowing for both the characterization of the pair emission source and the measurement of the scattering parameters for the particle pairs. Extensive studies with the THERMINATOR 2 event generator provide a good description of the non-femtoscopic background, which results mainly from collective effects, with unprecedented precision. Furthermore, together with HIJING simulations, this model is used to account for contributions from residual correlations induced by feed-down from particle decays. The extracted scattering parameters indicate that the strong force is repulsive in the $\Lambda\rm{K}^{+}$ interaction and attractive in the $\Lambda\rm{K}^{-}$ interaction. The data hint that the and $\Lambda\rm{K}^{0}_{S}$ interaction is attractive, however the uncertainty of the result does not permit such a decisive conclusion. The results suggest an effect arising either from different quark-antiquark interactions between the pairs ($\rm s\overline{s}$ in $\Lambda$K$^{+}$ and $\rm u\overline{u}$ in $\Lambda$K$^{-}$) or from different net strangeness for each system (S = 0 for $\Lambda$K$^{+}$, and S = $-2$ for $\Lambda$K$^{-}$). Finally, the $\Lambda$K systems exhibit source radii larger than expected from extrapolation from identical particle femtoscopic studies. This effect is interpreted as resulting from the separation in space-time of the single-particle $\Lambda$ and K source distributions.
Measured correlation function for the $\Lambda\mathrm{K^{+}}\oplus\overline{\Lambda}\mathrm{K^{-}}$ system in the 0--10\% centrality interval.
We report Λ 0 -hyperon polarization measurements at the CERN intersecting storage rings from √ s of 31 to 62 GeV. P Λ 0 changes insignificantly, +(0.8±1.7)%, over this range of √ s . However, P Λ 0 is observed to grow with Feynman- x F and with transverse momentum. At an average p t of 1.1 GeV/ c , P Λ 0 depends linearly on x F and approaches −40% at x F =0.8.

A measurement of the production of prompt $\Lambda_{\rm c}^{+}$ baryons in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02 $ TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC is reported. The $\Lambda_{\rm c}^{+}$ and $\overline{\Lambda}_{\rm c}^{-}$ were reconstructed at midrapidity ($|y| < 0.5$) via the hadronic decay channel $\Lambda_{\rm c}^{+}\rightarrow {\rm p} {\rm K}_{\rm S}^{0}$ (and charge conjugate) in the transverse momentum and centrality intervals $6 < p_{\rm T} <12$ GeV/$c$ and 0-80%. The $\Lambda_{\rm c}^{+}$/D$^0$ ratio, which is sensitive to the charm quark hadronisation mechanisms in the medium, is measured and found to be larger than the ratio measured in minimum-bias pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV and in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02 $ TeV. In particular, the values in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions differ by about two standard deviations of the combined statistical and systematic uncertainties in the common $p_{\rm T}$ interval covered by the measurements in the two collision system. The $\Lambda_{\rm c}^{+}$/D$^0$ ratio is also compared with model calculations including different implementations of charm quark hadronisation. The measured ratio is reproduced by models implementing a pure coalescence scenario, while adding a fragmentation contribution leads to an underestimation. The $\Lambda_{\rm c}^{+}$ nuclear modification factor, $R_{\rm AA}$, is also presented. The measured values of the $R_{\rm AA}$ of $\Lambda_{\rm c}^{+}$, D$_{\rm s}$ and non-strange D mesons are compatible within the combined statistical and systematic uncertainties. They show, however, a hint of a hierarchy $(R_{\rm AA}^{{\rm D}^{0}}<R_{\rm AA}^{{\rm D}_{\rm s}}<R_{\rm AA}^{\Lambda_{\rm c}^{+}})$, conceivable with a contribution of recombination mechanisms to charm hadron formation in the medium.
The $p_{\rm T}$-differential production cross section of prompt $\Lambda_{\rm c}^+$ charmed baryons was measured with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV and in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02$ TeV at midrapidity. The $\Lambda_{\rm c}^+$ and ${\overline{\Lambda}}_{\rm c}^-$ were reconstructed in the hadronic decay modes $\Lambda_{\rm c}^+\rightarrow {\rm p}{\rm K^-}\pi^+$, $\Lambda_{\rm c}^+\rightarrow {\rm p}{\rm K_{\rm S}^0}$ and in the semileptonic channel $\Lambda_{\rm c}^+\rightarrow {\rm e^+}\nu_{\rm e}\Lambda$ (and charge conjugates). The measured values of the $\Lambda_{\rm c}^+/{\rm D_0}$ ratio, which is sensitive to the c-quark hadronisation mechanism, and in particular to the production of baryons, are presented and are larger than those measured previously in different colliding systems, centre-of-mass energies, rapidity and $p_{\rm T}$ intervals, where the $\Lambda_{\rm c}^+$ production process may differ. The results are compared with the expectations obtained from perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics calculations and Monte Carlo event generators. Neither perturbative QCD calculations nor Monte Carlo models reproduce the data, indicating that the fragmentation of heavy-flavour baryons is not well understood. The first measurement at the LHC of the $\Lambda_{\rm c}^+$ nuclear modification factor, $R_{\rm pPb}$, is also presented. The $R_{\rm pPb}$ is found to be consistent with unity and with that of D mesons within the uncertainties, and consistent with a theoretical calculation that includes cold nuclear matter effects and a calculation that includes charm quark interactions with a deconfined medium.
Prompt $\Lambda_{\rm {c}}^{+}$ baryon $p_{\rm {T}}$-differential cross section (average among different decay modes and analyses) in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV in the rapidity interval $|y|<0.5$.
Prompt $\Lambda_{\rm {c}}^{+}$ baryon $p_{\rm {T}}$-differential cross section (average among different decay modes and analyses) in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm {NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV in the rapidity interval $-0.96 \lt y \lt 0.04$.
Hadronic resonances are used to probe the hadron gas produced in the late stage of heavy-ion collisions since they decay on the same timescale, of the order of 1 to 10 fm/$c$, as the decoupling time of the system. In the hadron gas, (pseudo)elastic scatterings among the products of resonances that decayed before the kinetic freeze-out and regeneration processes counteract each other, the net effect depending on the resonance lifetime, the duration of the hadronic phase, and the hadronic cross sections at play. In this context, the $\Sigma(1385)^{\pm}$ particle is of particular interest as models predict that regeneration dominates over rescattering despite its relatively short lifetime of about 5.5 fm/$c$. The first measurement of the $\Sigma(1385)^{\pm}$ resonance production at midrapidity in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}= 5.02$ TeV with the ALICE detector is presented in this Letter. The resonances are reconstructed via their hadronic decay channel, $\Lambda\pi$, as a function of the transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) and the collision centrality. The results are discussed in comparison with the measured yield of pions and with expectations from the statistical hadronization model as well as commonly employed event generators, including PYTHIA8/Angantyr and EPOS3 coupled to the UrQMD hadronic cascade afterburner. None of the models can describe the data. For $\Sigma(1385)^{\pm}$, a similar behaviour as ${\rm K}^{*} (892)^{0}$ is observed in data unlike the predictions of EPOS3 with afterburner.
We have observed Σc++ and Σc0 baryons in nonresonant e+e− interactions through their decays to Λc+π± using the CLEO detector. The mass difference M(Σc++)-M(Λc+) is measured to be 167.8±0.4±0.3 MeV; for M(Σc0)-M(Λc+) we find 167.9±0.5±0.3 MeV. Σc decay accounts for (18±3±5)% of Λc+ production.
The cross section ratio is multiplied by a factor of 1.5 to account for theunobserved SIGMA/C(2455)+.
The production of $\Upsilon$ mesons in Pb-Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5 TeV is measured with the muon spectrometer of the ALICE detector at the LHC. The yields as well as the nuclear modification factors are determined in the forward rapidity region $2.5<y<4.0$, as a function of rapidity, transverse momentum and collision centrality. The results show that the production of the $\Upsilon$(1S) meson is suppressed by a factor of about three with respect to the production in proton-proton collisions. For the first time, a significant signal for the $\Upsilon$(2S) meson is observed at forward rapidity, indicating a suppression stronger by about a factor 2-3 with respect to the ground state. The measurements are compared with transport, hydrodynamic, comover and statistical hadronisation model calculations.
Interpolated production cross sections and cross-section ratio for $\Upsilon(1\mathrm{S}) \rightarrow \mu^{+}\mu^{-}$ and $\Upsilon(2\mathrm{S}) \rightarrow \mu^{+}\mu^{-}$ in proton–proton collisions, integrated over the rapidity interval 2.5–4.0 and $p_{\mathrm{T}} <$ 15 GeV/$c$. Results used for the determination of the integrated nuclear modification factors and of the nuclear modification factors as a function of centrality (Figures 4 and 5 (right)).
Inclusive $\Upsilon$(1S) and $\Upsilon$(2S) production have been measured in Pb-Pb collisions at the centre-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon pair $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}=5.02$ TeV, using the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC. The $\Upsilon$ mesons are reconstructed in the centre-of-mass rapidity interval $2.5<y<4$ and in the transverse-momentum range $p_{\rm T}<15$ GeV/$c$, via their decays to muon pairs. In this Letter, we present results on the inclusive $\Upsilon$(1S) nuclear modification factor $R_{\rm AA}$ as a function of collision centrality, transverse momentum and rapidity. The $\Upsilon$(1S) and $\Upsilon$(2S) $R_{\rm AA}$, integrated over the centrality range 0-90%, are $0.37 \pm 0.02 {\rm{(stat)}}\pm 0.03 {\rm{(syst)}}$ and $0.10 \pm 0.04 {\rm{(stat)}}\pm 0.02 {\rm{(syst)}}$, respectively, leading to a ratio $R_{\rm{AA}}^{\Upsilon(\rm2S)}/R_{\rm{AA}}^{\Upsilon(\rm1S)}$ of $0.28\pm0.12\text{(stat)}\pm0.06\text{(syst)}$. The observed $\Upsilon$(1S) suppression increases with the centrality of the collision and no significant variation is observed as a function of transverse momentum and rapidity.
The polarizations of the Y(1S), Y(2S), and Y(3S) mesons are measured as a function of the charged particle multiplicity in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. The measurements are performed with a dimuon data sample collected in 2011 by the CMS experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.9 inverse femtobarns. The results are extracted from the dimuon decay angular distributions, in two ranges of Y(nS) transverse momentum (10-15 and 15-35 GeV), and in the rapidity interval abs(y) < 1.2. The results do not show significant changes from low- to high-multiplicity pp collisions, although large uncertainties preclude definite statements in the Y(2S) and Y(3S) cases.
