We report the results of a study of the reaction p p → p + x at 32.1 GeV c , where the recoiling proton has a small laboratory momentum. The reaction is studied in the 4.5 m Mirabelle bubble chamber at Serpukhov. We compare the diffractive dissociation of the incident antiproton to other incident particles.

Results are presented on total and semiinclusive cross sections, longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions of the tensor mesonsK*+(1430),K*0(1430), andf(1270) observed inK+p interactions at 32 GeV/c. The data are compared withK*+(892).K*0(896) and ϱ0 vector meson production in the same experiment. The shapes of inclusive invariantx-spectra for the strange vector and tensor mesons are found to be rather similar, after removal of diffractive and quasi-two-body channels, in agreement with quark-recombination ideas.

As a partial result of an analysis of K + d interactions at 3 GeV/ c produced in the 81 cm Saclay bubble chamber, we present data on K + differential cross sections for the following reactions: K + d → K + d, K + d → K + pn, K + d → K 0 pp . A set of parameters describing the K + n elastic scattering has been obtained from a simulataneous fit, based on the Glauber model. to the three experimental differential cross sections and to the K + d total cross section, giving α n = 1.7 ± 0.5 GeV −2 for the slope α n of the differential cross section, and ρ n = −0.16 ± 0.3 for the ratio of the real to the imaginary part of the forward scattering amplitude. The D-wave function of the deuteron has been found to give a non-negligible contribution to the coherent reaction.

The elastic and inelastic$\bar p$p cross sections at 70 GeV/c have been determined in an experiment performed at CERN using BEBC equipped with a TST. The topological cross sections were measured and the moments of the inelastic multiplicity distribution are 〈nc〉=6.16±0.09, 〈nc〉/D=2.04±0.05 andf2cc=2.97±0.03. The average number of Dalitz pairs per inelastic event is (3.12±0.09)×10−2. Assuming that these all arise from π0 decay the average π0 multiplicity is$\langle n_{\pi ^0 } \rangle= 2.71 \pm 0.14$. The$\bar p$p−pp cross section differences lead to an annihilation cross section σA = 4.42±0.41 mb and the moments of the annihilation multiplicty distribution are 〈nA〉=8.0±0.3, 〈nA〉/D=2.5±0.2 andf2A−−=−1.4±0.3. An independent check of σA was made by investigating fast forward charged and neutral secondary interactions in the TST and in the surrounding neon-hydrogen mixture, and gives a value σA = 5.0±1.6 mb. The ratio of fast$\bar n$ to$\bar p$ production in non-annihilation interactions at 70 GeV/c is found to be 0.45±0.11.

The Fermilab hybrid 30-in. bubble-chamber spectrometer was exposed to a tagged 147-GeV/c positive beam containing π+, K+, and p. A sample of 3003 K+p, 19410 pp, and 20745 π+p interactions is used to derive σn, 〈n〉, f2cc, and 〈nc〉D for each beam particle. These values are compared to values obtained at other, mostly lower, beam momenta. The overall dependence of 〈n〉 on Ea, the available center-of-mass energy, for these three reactions as well as π−p and pp interactions has been determined.

The presence of a structure in the p̄p total cross section at 1930–1940 MeV, with a narrow width of 9 MeV is confirmed. The interpretation of the effect as a single, non interfering, resonance is made difficult by the comparison of the elastic scattering with the charge exchange cross sections.
