The spin correlation parameter A oonn for pp elastic scattering was measured at 0.88, 1.1, 1.3, 1.6, 1.8, 2.1, 2.4 and 2.7 GeV using the SATURNE II polarized proton beam and the Saclay frozen spin polarized target. At the first two energies, the new measurements at θ CM < 50° complete our previous data from 45° to 90°. Between 1.3 and 2.7 GeV the measurements were performed in two overlapping angular regions covering together the CM angles from 28° (at the lower energies) or 18° (at the highest energy) to > 90°. At all energies above 1.3 GeV the angular distribution shows a dip at fixed four-momentum transfer − t ∼ 0.90 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The value of A oonn ( θ CM = 90°) decreases from A oonn (90°) ≅ 0.57 at 0.88 GeV to A oonn (90°) ≅ 0.35 at 2.7 GeV. However, the large value found at 1.8 GeV indicates that the energy dependence is not monotonic.

Elastic scattering of positive kaons on polarized protons at 1.22 and 2.48 gev/c

Andersson, S. ; Daum, C. ; Erne, F.C. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 28 (1969) 611-614, 1969.
Inspire Record 56802 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29066

Polarization angular distributions of K + p elastic scattering have been measured at 1.22 and 2.48 GeV/ c . Over the measured range of − t the polarization is generally large and positive. The data at 1.22 GeV/ c resolve an ambiguity in a recently published phase-shift analysis, favouring the solution which requires no resonance in the K + p system.

Results are presented from experiment WA7 at the CERN SPS, which has measured the elastic differential cross sections of π ± p, K ± p, p p and pp at incident momen ta of 20, 30 and 50 GeV/ c . The measurements cover the momentum transfer range 0.5 < | t | < 8 (GeV/ c ) 2 , corresponding to c.m. scattering angles between 10° and 50°. The experimental set-up, trigger logic and data analysis are described. The experimental results are compared with existing meson-proton and nucleon-proton data at lower and higher energies covering the medium- and large-| t | region. Some prominent models and their predictions for elastic scattering at WA7 energies and beyond are reviewed, with emphasis on geometrical scaling, factorizing eikonal models, lowest-order QCD and other dynamical exchange-type models. Results for p p two-body annihilation into π − π + and K − K + at 30 and 50 GeV/ c , obtained in parallel with the elastic p p data, are also presented.

Large Angle Elastic Scattering of Charged Pions on Protons at 20-{GeV}/c and 30-{GeV}/c Incident Momenta

Inspire Record 152838 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27195

Elastic cross-section measurements are presented for π ± −p at 20 GeV/ c and π − −p at 30 GeV/ c incident momenta in the large angle region (50° to 90° in the c.m. system). The data are compared with published lower energy elastic cross sections. A test is made of the dimensional counting rules for π ± −p elastic scattering and some indication of a deviation from this rule is observed in the π − −p case. A comparison is also made with the predictions of the constituent interchange model. Although the broad features of the predictions are confirmed, there are some important discrepancies. Finally, the predictions of the model due to Preparata and Soffer are also compared with the new data.

We have measured the differential cross section of the reaction π − p→ π − p in the range 0.92 ⩽ cos θ c.m. ⩽ 0.99 at 15 momenta between 0.875 and 1.580 GeV/ c . The results we report complete the available data; previous measurements of this reaction do not extend beyond cos θ c.m. =0.90. We compare our experimental results with dispersion relation predictions. A comparison of our results for B , the slope of the differential cross section, with earlier results shows many discrepancies.

MEASUREMENT OF THE ASYMMETRY PARAMETER A IN PI- P ELASTIC AND CHARGE EXCHANGE SCATTERING AT PION ENERGIES T (PI) = 98-MEV, 238-MEV, 292-MEV, AND 310-MEV

The asymmetry parameter A in π−p elastic scattering at incident pion laboratory kinetic energies Tπ of 98, 238, and 2922 MeV and in π−p charge-exchange scattering π−p→π0n at Tπ=238, 292, and 310 MeV have been measured over a wide range of scattering angles (typically from about 60° to 130° c.m.) with a polarized proton target. The data have been used in an energy-independent phase-shift analysis to improve the precision of the pion-nucleon phase shifts, to set new limits on violation of isospin conservation in the pion-nucleon S wave, and to confirm significant charge dependence in the P32 wave.

Elastic scattering of negative kaons on polarized protons between 865 and 1330 mev/c

Albrow, M.G. ; Andersson-Almehed, S. ; Bosnjakovic, B. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 29 (1971) 413-430, 1971.
Inspire Record 68634 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33423

Polarization and differential cross-section data for elastic scattering of negative kaons on polarized protons between 865 and 1330 MeV/ c are presented. Comparisons are made with predictions given by published energy dependent phase-shift analyses. The Legendre expansion coefficients characterizing the polarization distributions show remarkable structures resulting from excitation of Λ- and Σ-resonances. An analysis of the elastic and charge-exchange data in this region of momenta supports the assignments of J P = 3 2 + for the Λ(1870) resonance. The occurence of zero crossings in the polarization data is discussed.
