Elastic scattering, single-pion and deuteron production have been investigated. The cross-section for elastic scattering is σelastic = (13.5±0.3) mb. The angular distribution has been fitted to dσ/d|t|=(dσ/d|t|)0 e −bt in the region of low values oft. The best fit givesb=(6.7±0.5) (GeV/c)−2 and (dσ/d|t|)0=(91±5) mb(GeV/c)−2. The cross-sections for ppπ0, pnπ+ reactions are respectively (2.6±0.3) mb and (9.7±0.4) mb. These reactions are dominated by the (3/2, 3/2) nucleonpion isobar production and by forward backward collimation of the nucleons. The production rates for the isobars ++1238 , +1238 , +1500 have been estimated, taking into account the experimental peripheral behaviour of the interaction. In the pnπ+ reaction they are (50±2)%; (10±3)%; (4±3)%. In the ppπ+ reaction the production of ++1238 is estimated to be (45±10)%. The dπ+ and dπ+π+π- reaction cross-sections are respectively (0.03±0.01) mb, and (0.04±0.01) mb.

The asymmetry A LL for pp elastic scattering has been measured at 650 and 800 MeV in the region of Coulomb-nuclear interference. The real part of the double-spin-flip amplitude extracted from these data completes our determination of the forward pp scattering amplitudes at these energies. Comparison with the predictions of forward dispersion relations reveals a discrepancy in the spin-dependent channels at 650 MeV.

Inspire Record 159455 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20701

The large-angle analyzing power A in proton-neutron elastic scattering at 2, 3, and 6 GeV/c with use of the polarized proton beam at the Argonne zero-gradient synchrotron and a liquid deuterium target have been measured. The measurements, the first at high energy, show that A is large (20-40%) and negative over much of the angular range and shows no decrease with incident energy, unlike the earlier data at smaller angles.

Inspire Record 327386 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.26154

The analyzing power Ay for p+p elastic scattering at θlab=8.64°±0.07° (θcms=18.1°) and at a bombarding energy of 183.1±0.4 MeV has been determined to be Ay=0.2122±0.0017. The error includes statistics, systematic uncertainties, and the uncertainty in bombarding energy and angle. This measurement represents a calibration standard for polarized beams in this energy range. The absolute scale for the measurement has been obtained by comparison with p+C elastic scattering at the same energy at an angle where Ay is very nearly unity.

Absolute p p elastic cross-sections from 492-MeV to 793-MeV

Phys.Rev.C 48 (1993) 662-675, 1993.
Inspire Record 363783 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.26001

Absolute pp-elastic-differential cross sections were measured at incident energies 492, 576, 642, 728, and 793 MeV from about 30° to 90° c.m. The total uncertainty was determined to be less than 1%, made possible by particle counting for beam normalization and extensive cross-checks of systematic effects. These new data are consistent with previous data above 600 MeV but have uncertainties about a factor of 10 smaller. Near 500 MeV these data are consistent with 90° data from TRIUMF, but differ significantly from similar data from PSI; the cause of this discrepancy is discussed.

Phys.Rev.C 53 (1996) 30-34, 1996.
Inspire Record 429629 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.25831

pp-elastic differential cross sections are reported at 492 MeV from 40° to 90°, and at 576, 642, 728, and 793 MeV from 75° to 90° c.m., with an absolute accuracy of less than 1%. These data, obtained with polyethylene targets, agree with recent measurements at the same energies obtained with a liquid-hydrogen target. © 1996 The American Physical Society.

Analysing power for quasi-elastic pp scattering in carbon and for elastic pp scattering on free protons

Bystricky, J. ; Deregel, J. ; Lehar, F. ; et al.
Lett.Nuovo Cim. 40 (1984) 466-470, 1984.
Inspire Record 1388775 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.37297

The ratio of the analysing powers for quasi-elastic pp scattering in carbon and for elastic scattering on free protons was measured fromT = 0.52 to 2.8 GeV by scattering of the SATURNE II polarized proton beam on carbon and CH2. It was found to have a maximum at about 0.8 GeV. The energy dependence for quasielastic scattering on carbon had not been measured before above 1 GeV. The observed effect was not expected from simple models.

Analysis of Two Prong Events on p p Interactions at 205-GeV/c: Separation of Elastic and Inelastic Events.

We present results of complete measurements of the two-prong events observed in a 50 000-picture exposure of the 30-in. hydrogen bubble chamber to a 205−GeVc proton beam at the National Accelerator Laboratory. Using kinematic fitting, elastic and inelastic events are separated and cross sections are obtained. The total two-prong cross section is measured to be 9.77 ± 0.40 mb, of which 2.85 ± 0.26 mb represents the inelastic contribution. The total elastic cross section is measured to be 6.92 ± 0.44 mb. Our data are consistent with the break in dσdt at |t|∼0.1−0.2 (GeVc)2 observed at the CERN ISR. A prominent low-mass enhancement is observed in the distribution of missing mass squared from the slow proton for the inelastic events. An analysis based on the missing-mass spectrum and the particle rapidities shows that this low-mass enhancement accounts for about 77% of the total inelastic two-prong cross section. The diffractive cross section in the two-prong events is 2.20 ± 0.25 mb, in agreement with certain two-component models.
