DEDUCED FROM MEASUREMENTS AT EPSILON OF 0.20 AND 0.65.
We report a photon-photon experiment performed at the Orsay storage rings. 300e + e − , μ + μ − and π + π − pairs produced with low invariant masses have been observed. For each event, one or both protons have been tagged at a very small angle. The γγ→μ + μ − and γγ→π + π − cross-sections have been measured near threshold, the γγ→e + e − process being used as a normalization. The observed invariant mass distribution is compared to theoretical calculations for each of the three processes. The μ + μ − data are in good agreement with QED predictions. The π + π − cross-section, in our experimental acceptance, is somewhat larger than the one expected from the Born terms only.
EACH BEAM ENERGY VARIED BETWEEN 750 MEV AND 1 GEV.
We have determined the pion charge exchange cross section on hydrogen for π ° mesons emitted at 180° by measuring neutron time-of-flight. Using known values of the p-wave phase shifts we have deduced the contribution of the s-wave. We obtain a value for the quantity a 1 − a 3 (in h = c = m =1 units where m is the pion mass) =0.270±0.014 in agreement within the errors with recent theoretical calculations. We also find a value of 114±55 μb / sr for the cross section in the center of mass system for radiative pion capture at 22.6 MeV (gamma ray emitted at 180°).

This paper reports a complete analysis of data taken at DCI to measure lepton and pion pair production close to the threshold in two-photon processes: e + e − → e + e − (e + e − , μ + μ − , π + π − ). Preliminary results have been previously published including one-half of the total statistics. Final results presented here are in good agreement with QED for lepton pair production. The measured cross section for pion pair production is twice as large as that expected from Born terms only — a two standard deviation effect.
Normalised to number of observed electron pairs. Fully corrected for acceptance, radiative effects etc.
The e + e − → π + π − cross section has been measured from about 280 events (an order of magnitude more than the previous world statistics) in the energy interval 1.35 ⩽ s ⩽ 2.4 GeV with the DM2 detector at DCI. The pion squared form factor | F π | 2 shows a deep minimum around 1.6 GeV/ c 2 and is better fit under the hypothesis of two ϱ-like resonance ⋍0.25 GeV/ c 2 wide with 1.42 and 1.77 GeV/ c 2 masses.
Statistical errors only.
The e + e − → ηπ + π − reaction has been measured in the center of mass energy interval 1350–2400 MeV by the magnetic detector DM2 at the Orsay storage ring DCI. Under the hypothesis of only one large resonance the cross section is not fit in a satisfactory way. The branching ratio τ − → η − π 0 ν τ =(0.13 ± 0.02)% is deduced via CVC from the above measurement.

Thee+e−→K+K− cross section has been measured from about 750 events in the energy interval\(1350 \leqq \sqrt s\leqq 2400 MeV\) with the DM2 detector at DCI. TheK± form factor |FF±| cannot be explained by the ρ, ω, ϕ and ρ′(1600). An additional resonant amplitude at 1650 MeV has to be added as suggested by a previous experiment.

An update of the ALEPH non-strange spectral functions from hadronic $\tau$ decays is presented. Compared to the 2005 ALEPH publication, the main improvement is related to the use of a new method to unfold the measured mass spectra from detector effects. This procedure also corrects a previous problem in the correlations between the unfolded mass bins. Results from QCD studies and for the evaluation of the hadronic vacuum polarisation contribution to the anomalous muon magnetic moment are derived using the new spectral functions. They are found in agreement with published results based on the previous set of spectral functions.
