Evidence of $W\gamma\gamma$ production in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV and limits on anomalous quartic gauge couplings with the ATLAS detector

Abstract (data abstract)
CERN-LHC. Measurements of the cross section for W$\gamma\gamma$ production using the $\ell\nu\gamma\gamma$ decay channels in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV with 20.3 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected in 2012. The final states used are a muon or an electron and two photons and missing transverse momentum (MET). In each final state, the inclusive and exclusive cross sections are measured. The inclusive measurement selection does not include any requirement on the number of jets, while the exclusive measurement requires that no jet is found in the event. The fiducial region is defined as (Table 2 of the preprint): - p$_T^{\ell}$ > 20 GeV; - p$_T^{\nu}$ > 25 GeV; - |$\eta^{\ell}$| < 2.5; - m$_T^{W}$ > 40 GeV; - p$_T^{\gamma}$ > 20 GeV (applied to both photons); - |$\eta^{\gamma}$| < 2.37 (applied to both photons); - Photons isolation fraction, $\epsilon^p_h$ < 0.5; - Exclusive: no anti-k$_t$ jets with p$_T^{jet}$ > 30 GeV and |$\eta^{jet}$| < 4.4; - $\Delta R$($\ell$,$\gamma$) > 0.7, $\Delta R$($\gamma$,$\gamma$) > 0.4 and $\Delta R$($\ell$ or $\gamma$, jet) > 0.3.
