We present a search for electroweak production of single top quarks in $\approx 90$ $pb^{-1}$ of data collected with the DZero detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. Using arrays of neural networks to separate signals from backgrounds, we set upper limits on the cross sections of 17 pb for the s-channel process $p\bar{p} \to tb + X$, and 22 pb for the t-channel process $p\bar{p} \to tqb + X$, both at the 95% confidence level.

Antiproton-proton elastic scattering was measured at c.m.s. energies √s =546 and 1800 GeV in the range of four-momentum transfer squared 0.025<-t<0.29 GeV2. The data are well described by the exponential form ebt with a slope b=15.28±0.58 (16.98±0.25) GeV−2 at √s =546 (1800) GeV. The elastic scattering cross sections are, respectively, σel=12.87±0.30 and 19.70±0.85 mb.

The antiproton-proton small-angle elastic-scattering distribution was measured at\(\sqrt s \) GeV at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. A fit to the nuclear-scattering distribution in the range 0.065≤|t|≤0.21 (GeV/c)2 givesb=(16.2±0.5±0.5) (GeV/c)−2 for the logarithmic slope parameter. Using the optical theorem and the luminosity from Collider parameters, we obtain σtoto(1+ρ2)1/2 =(61.7±3.7±4.4)mb.

The DO collaboration reports on a search for the Standard Model top quark in pbar-p collisions at Sqrt(s)=1.8TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron, with an integrated luminosity of approximately 50pb-1. We have searched for t-tbar production in the dilepton and single-lepton decay channels, with and without tagging of b-quark jets. We observed 17 events with an expected background of 3.8+/-0.6 events. The probability for an upward fluctuation of the background to produce the observed signal is 2.0E-6 (equivalent to 4.6 standard deviations). The kinematic properties of the excess events are consistent with top quark decay. We conclude that we have observed the top quark and measure its mass to be 199~+19_21 (stat.)+/- 22 (syst.)GeV/c**2 and its production cross section to be 6.4 +/- 2.2 pb.
Cross section refers to top quark mass equal 199. (+19, -21, +- 22) GeV.
The paper presents studies of Bose-Einstein Correlations (BEC) for pairs of like-sign charged particles measured in the kinematic range $p_{\rm T}>$ 100 MeV and $|\eta|<$ 2.5 in proton--proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 0.9 and 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The integrated luminosities are approximately 7 $\mu$b$^{-1}$, 190 $\mu$b$^{-1}$ and 12.4 nb$^{-1}$ for 0.9 TeV, 7 TeV minimum-bias and 7 TeV high-multiplicity data samples, respectively. The multiplicity dependence of the BEC parameters characterizing the correlation strength and the correlation source size are investigated for charged-particle multiplicities of up to 240. A saturation effect in the multiplicity dependence of the correlation source size is observed using the high-multiplicity 7 TeV data sample. The dependence of the BEC parameters on the average transverse momentum of the particle pair is also investigated.
Systematic uncertainties on $\lambda$ and $R$ for the exponential fit of the two-particle double-ratio correlation function $R_{2}(Q)$ in the full kinematic region at $\sqrt{s} = 0.9$ and $7\ TeV$ for minimum-bias and high-multiplicity (HM) events, $n_{ch} \ge 2$ and $n_{ch} \ge 150$, respectively.
Results of fitting the multiplicity, $n_{ch}$, dependence of the BEC parameters $R$ and $\lambda$ with different functional forms for $\sqrt{s} = 0.9$ and $7\ TeV$. The $n_{ch}$ fit of $R(n_{ch})$ is applied to $7\ TeV$ minimum-bias events at $n_{ch} \le 55$ and to $0.9\ TeV$ minimum-bias events. The constant fit of $R(n_{ch} )$ is applied to $7\ TeV$ minimum-bias events for $n_{ch} > 55$ and to $7\ TeV$ high-multiplicity events. The exponential fit of $\lambda(n_{ch})$ is applied to $7\ TeV$ minimum-bias and high-multiplicity events. The error represent the quadratic sum of the statistical and systematic uncertainties.
Results of fitting the transverse momentum of the pair, $k_{T}$, dependence of the BEC parameters $R$ and $\lambda$ with the exponential fitting function for $\sqrt{s} = 0.9$ and $7\ TeV$. The error represent the quadratic sum of the statistical and systematic uncertainties.
We have measured ρ, the ratio of the real to the imaginary part of the p¯p forward elastic-scattering amplitude, at √s =1.8 TeV. Our result, ρ=0.140±0.069, is compared with extrapolations from lower-energy data based on dispersion relations, and with the UA4 value at √s =546 GeV.

Total cross section from fit to data.
We have measured the antiproton-proton total cross section at √s =1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider; the value obtained is 78.3±5.9 mb. B, the nuclear slope parameter for elastic scattering, was measured to be 16.3±0.5 (GeV/c)−2. From these data, we derive a value for the total elastic cross section.

Total cross section assuming RHO = 0.145 (low energy fit). If RHO is taken as 0.24 obtained by UA4 at sqrt(s) = 546 GeV, the value of SIG is reduced by 1.8 PCT.
Three-jet production in deep inelastic ep scattering and photoproduction was investigated with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 127 pb-1. Measurements of differential cross sections are presented as functions of angular correlations between the three jets in the final state and the proton-beam direction. These correlations provide a stringent test of perturbative QCD and show sensitivity to the contributions from different colour configurations. Fixed-order perturbative QCD calculations assuming the values of the colour factors C_F, C_A and T_F as derived from a variety of gauge groups were compared to the measurements to study the underlying gauge group symmetry. The measured angular correlations in the deep inelastic ep scattering and photoproduction regimes are consistent with the admixture of colour configurations as predicted by SU(3) and disfavour other symmetry groups, such as SU(N) in the limit of large N.

We present the first measurement of associated direct photon + muon production in hadronic collisions, from a sample of 1.8 TeV $p \bar p$ collisions recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) predicts that these events are primarily from the Compton scattering process $cg \to c\gamma$, with the final state charm quark producing a muon. Hence this measurement is sensitive to the charm quark content of the proton. The measured cross section of $29\pm 9 pb^{-1}$ is compared to a leading-order QCD parton shower model as well as a next-to-leading-order QCD calculation.
The statistical and systematic errors are added in quadrature.
We have measured the cross section of γ+D*± production in p¯p collisions at s=1.8TeV using the Collider Detector at Fermilab. In this kinematic region, the Compton scattering process (gc→γc) is expected to dominate and thus provide a direct link to the charm quark density in the proton. From the 45±18 γ+D*± candidates in a 16.4pb−1 data sample, we have determined the production cross section to be 0.38±0.15(stat)±0.11(syst) nb for the rapidity range |y(D*±)|<1.2 and |y(γ)|<0.9, and for the transverse momentum range pT(D*±)>6GeV/c and 16<pT(γ)<40GeV/c. The measured cross section is compared to a theoretical prediction.
