Inclusive jet production at s=1.8 TeV has been measured in the CDF detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p¯p Collider. Jets with transverse energies (Et) up to 250 GeV have been observed. The Et dependence of the inclusive jet cross section is consistent with leading-order quantum-chromodynamic calculations, and comparison with lower-energy data shows deviations from scaling consistent with QCD. A lower limit of 700 GeV (95% confidence level) is placed on the quark compositeness scale parameter Λc associated with an effective contact interaction.

The cross section for the production and subsequent decay to electron and neutrino of the W intermediate vector boson has been measured in 1.8-TeV p¯p collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. An analysis of events with missing transverse energy greater than 25 GeV and with an electron of transverse energy greater than 15 GeV from a datum sample of 25.3 nb−1 gives σB=2.6±0.6±0.5 nb.

Measurements of inclusive transverse-momentum spectra for KS0 mesons produced in proton-antiproton collisions at s of 630 and 1800 GeV are presented and compared with data taken at lower energies. The ratio, as a function of pT, of the cross section for KS0 to that for charged hadrons is very similar to what is observed at lower energies. At 1800 GeV, we calculate the strangeness-suppression factor λ=0.40±0.05.

We have measured dijet angular distributions at √s =1.8 TeV with the Collider Detector at Fermilab and the Tevatron p¯p Collider and find agreement with leading-order QCD. By comparing the distribution for the highest dijet invariant masses with the prediction of a model of quark compositeness, we set a lower limit on the associated scale parameter Λc at 330 GeV (95% C.L.).

The two-jet differential cross section d3σ(p¯p→jet 1+jet 2+X)/dEtdη1dη2, averaged over -0.6≤η1≤0.6, at √s =1.8 TeV, has been measured in the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The predictions of leading-order quantum chromodynamics for most choices of structure functions show agreement with the data.

The production rate of charged D* mesons in jets has been measured in 1.8-TeV p¯p collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. In a sample of approximately 32 300 jets with a mean transverse energy of 47 GeV obtained from an exposure of 21.1 nb−1, a signal corresponding to 25.0±7.5(stat)±2.0(syst) D*±→K∓π±π± events is seen above background. This corresponds to a ratio N(D*++D*−)/N(jet) =0.10±0.03±0.03 for D* mesons with fractional momentum z greater than 0.1.
Mean jet transverse energy is 47 GeV. Branching rates for D* --> D0 PI of 0.57 +- 0.04 (DSYS=0.04) and D0 --> K- PI+ of 0.042 +- 0.004 (DSYS=0.004), from MARK-III have been used.
We present the dijet invariant-mass distribution in the region between 60 and 500 GeV, measured in 1.8-TeV p¯p collisions in the Collider Detector at Fermilab. Jets are restricted to the pseudorapidity interval |η|<0.7. Data are compared with QCD calculations; axigluons are excluded with 95% confidence in the region 120<MA<210 GeV for axigluon width ΓA=NαsMA6, with N=5.

We present measurements of the pseudorapidity (η) distribution of charged particles (dNchdη) produced within |η|≤3.5 in proton-antiproton collisions at s of 630 and 1800 GeV. We measure dNchdη at η=0 to be 3.18±0.06(stat)±0.10(syst) at 630 GeV, and 3.95±0.03 (stat)±0.13(syst) at 1800 GeV. Many systematic errors in the ratio of dNchdη at the two energies cancel, and we measure 1.26±0.01±0.04 for the ratio of dNchdη at 1800 GeV to that at 630 GeV within |η|≤3. Comparing to lower-energy data, we observe an increase faster than ln(s) in dNchdη at η=0.

The charged-particle fractional momentum distribution within jets, D(z), has been measured in dijet events from 1.8-TeV p¯p collisions in the Collider Detector at Fermilab. As expected from scale breaking in quantum chromodynamics, the fragmentation function D(z) falls more steeply as dijet invariant mass increases from 60 to 200 GeV/c2. An analysis of high-transverse-momentum electrons using data from the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) of p¯p collisions at s=1800 GeV yields values of the production cross section times branching ratio for W and Z0 bosons of σ(p¯p→WX→eνX)=2.19±0.04(stat)±0.21(syst) nb and σ(p¯p→Z0X→e+e−X)=0.209±0.013(stat)±0.017(syst) nb. Detailed descriptions of the CDF electron identification, background, efficiency, and acceptance are included. Theoretical predictions of the cross sections that include a mass for the top quark larger than the W mass, current values of the W and Z0 masses, and higher-order QCD corrections are in good agreement with these measured values.

A measurement of the QCD jet-broadening parameter 〈QT〉 is described for high-ET jet data in the central calorimeter of the Collider Detector at Fermilab. As an alternate approach to clustering analysis, this method involves the use of a global event parameter which is free from the ambiguities associated with the definition and separation of individual clusters. The parameter QT is defined as the scalar sum of the transverse momentum perpendicular to the transverse thrust axis. Parton-level QCD predictions are made for 〈QT〉 as a function of ET, the total transverse energy in the events, and suggest that a measurement would show a dependence on the running of the strong coupling constant αs. Comparisons are made to first-order QCD parton-level calculations, as well as to fully evolved and hadronized leading-log simulations. The data are well described by the QCD predictions.
A small asymmetry in the systematic uncertainty has been ignored. Given here are the average values.
The dijet invariant mass distribution has been measured in the region between 120 and 1000 GeV/c2, in 1.8-TeV pp¯ collisions. The data sample was collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). Data are compared to leading order (LO) and next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD calculations using two different clustering cone radii R in the jet definition. A quantitative test shows good agreement of data with the LO and NLO QCD predictions for a cone of R=1. The test using a cone of R=0.7 shows less agreement. The NLO calculation shows an improvement compared to LO in reproducing the shape of the spectrum for both radii, and approximately predicts the cone size dependence of the cross section.
Observed cross section using R = 1.0. The second systematic error is the theoretical uncertainty and includes only the effect of the out-of-cone losses, the underlying event energy, and the contribution of multi-jet events.

We present a measurement of the ratio σB(W→eν)σB(Z0→e+e−) in p¯p collisions at s=1.8 TeV The data represent an integrated luminosity of 21.7 pb−1 from the 1992-1993 run of the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The W+jet angular distribution is measured using W→eν events recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) during the 1988-89 and 1992-93 Tevatron runs. The data agree well with both a leading order and a next-to-leading order theoretical prediction. The shape of the angular distribution is similar to that observed in photon + jet data and significantly different from that observed in dijet data.

A prompt photon cross section measurement from the Collider Detector at Fermilab experiment is presented. Detector and trigger upgrades, as well as 6 times the integrated luminosity compared with our previous publication, have contributed to a much more precise measurement and extended PT range. As before, QCD calculations agree qualitatively with the measured cross section, but the data has a steeper slope than the calculations.

We report on a study of W+ photon production in approximately 20 pb−1 of p−p¯ collisions at s=1.8 TeV recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. Our results are in good agreement with standard model expectations and are used to obtain limits on anomalous CP-conserving WWγ couplings of −2.3<Δκ<2.2 for λ=0 and −0.7<λ<0.7 for Δκ=0 at 95% C.L. We obtain the same limits for CP-violating couplings. These results provide limits on the higher-order electromagnetic moments of the W boson of 0.8<gW<3.1 for qWe=1 and −0.6<qWe<2.7 for gW=2 at 95% C.L.

The charge asymmetry has been measured using $19,039W$ decays recorded by the CDF detector during the 1992-93 run of the Tevatron Collider. The asymmetry is sensitive to the ratio of $d$ and $u$ quark distributions to $x<0.01$ at $Q~2 \approx M_W~2$, where nonperturbative effects are minimal. It is found that of the two current sets of parton distributions, those of Martin, Roberts and Stirling (MRS) are favored over the sets most recently produced by the CTEQ collaboration. The $W$ asymmetry data provide a stronger constraints on $d/u$ ratio than the recent measurements of $F_2~{\mu n}/F_2~{\mu p}$ which are limited by uncertainties originating from deutron corrections.

We present the results of a search in p¯p collisions at s=1.8 TeV for the top quark decaying to a charged Higgs boson (H±). We search for dilepton final states from the decay chain tt¯→HH (or HW, or WW) + bb¯→ll+X. In a sample of 19.3 pb−1 collected during 1992-93 with the Collider Detector at Fermilab, we observe 2 events with a background estimation of 3.0 ± 1.0 events. Limits at 95% C.L. in the (Mtop,MH±) plane are presented. For the case Mtop<MW+Mb, we exclude at 95% C.L. the entire (Mtop,MH±) plane for the branching ratio B(H→τν) larger than 75%. We also interpret the results in terms of the parameter tan β of two-Higgs-doublet models.

We have used 19 pb**-1 of data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab to search for new particles decaying to dijets. We exclude at 95% confidence level models containing the following new particles: axigluons with mass between 200 and 870 GeV, excited quarks with mass between 80 and 570 GeV, and color octet technirhos with mass between 320 and 480 GeV.
Here UNSPEC refers to axigluons, excited quarks, colour octet technirhos, ngauge bosons (W' and Z') and diquarks (D and Dc). M is the mass of the new particle (axigluon, q*, ...). Measurements are given to the 95% confidence limit.

The cross section is measured in the central rapidity region $|y| < 1$ for $p_T(B) > 6.0$ GeV/$c$ by fully reconstructing the $B$ meson decays $B~{+}\rightarrow J/\psi K~{+}$ and $B~{0}\rightarrow J/\psi K~{*0}(892)$, where $J/\psi \rightarrow \mu~+\mu~-$ and $K~{*0} \rightarrow K~+ \pi~-$. A comparison is made to the theoretical QCD prediction calculated at next-to-leading order.

We establish the existence of the top quark using a 67 pb^-1 data sample of Pbar-P collisions at Sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). Employing techniques similar to those we previously published, we observe a signal consistent with t-tbar decay to WW b-bbar, but inconsistent with the background prediction by 4.8 sigma. Additional evidence for the top quark is provided by a peak in the reconstructed mass distribution. We measure the top quark mass to be 176 +/-8(stat) +/- 10(sys.) GeV/c^2, and the t-tbar production cross section to be 6.8 +3.6 -2.4 pb.
Cross section refers to top quark mass equal 176. (+- 8 +- 10) GeV.. Error contains both statistical and systematic uncertainty.
The DO collaboration reports on a search for the Standard Model top quark in pbar-p collisions at Sqrt(s)=1.8TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron, with an integrated luminosity of approximately 50pb-1. We have searched for t-tbar production in the dilepton and single-lepton decay channels, with and without tagging of b-quark jets. We observed 17 events with an expected background of 3.8+/-0.6 events. The probability for an upward fluctuation of the background to produce the observed signal is 2.0E-6 (equivalent to 4.6 standard deviations). The kinematic properties of the excess events are consistent with top quark decay. We conclude that we have observed the top quark and measure its mass to be 199~+19_21 (stat.)+/- 22 (syst.)GeV/c**2 and its production cross section to be 6.4 +/- 2.2 pb.
Cross section refers to top quark mass equal 199. (+19, -21, +- 22) GeV.
We have directly measured the ZZ-gamma and Z-gamma-gamma couplings by studying p pbar --> l+ l- gamma + X, (l = e, mu) events at the CM energy of 1.8$TeV with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. A fit to the transverse energy spectrum of the photon in the signal events, based on the data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 13.9 pb~-1 ($13.3 pb~-1) for the electron (muon) channel, yields the following 95% confidence level limits on the anomalous CP-conserving ZZ-gamma couplings: -1.9 < h~Z_30 < 1.8 (h~Z_40 = 0), and -0.5 < h~Z_40 < 0.5 (h~Z_30 = 0), for a form-factor scale Lambda = 500 GeV. Limits for the Z-gamma-gamma$ couplings and CP-violating couplings are also discussed.

The properties of two-, three-, four-, five-, and six-jet events with multijet masses >600 GeV /c2 are compared with QCD predictions. The shapes of the multijet-mass and leading-jet-angular distributions are approximately independent of jet multiplicity and are well described by the NJETS matrix element calculation and the HERWIG parton shower Monte Carlo predictions. The observed jet transverse momentum distributions for three- and four-jet events discriminate between the matrix element and parton shower predictions, the data favoring the matrix element calculation.

The ratio of the number of W+1 jet to W+0 jet events is measured with the D0 detector using data from the 1992–93 Tevatron Collider run. For the W→eν channel with a minimum jet ET cutoff of 25 GeV, the experimental ratio is 0.065±0.003stat±0.007syst. Next-to-leading order QCD predictions for various parton distributions agree well with each other and are all over 1 standard deviation below the measurement. Varying the strong coupling constant αs in both the parton distributions and the partonic cross sections simultaneously does not remove this discrepancy.
Two values of ALPHA_S corresponds the two different parton distribution functions (pdf) used in extraction of ALPHA_S from the ratio. The dominant systematic error is from the jet energy scale uncertainty.
The inclusive cross sections times leptonic branching ratios for W and Z boson production in PbarP collisions at Sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV were measured using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider: Sigma_W*B(W->e, nu) = 2.36 +/- 0.07 +/- 0.13 nb, Sigma_W*B(W->mu,nu) = 2.09 +/- 0.23 +/- 0.11 nb, Sigma_Z*B(Z-> e, e) = 0.218 +/- 0.011 +/- 0.012 nb, Sigma_Z*B(Z->mu,mu) = 0.178 +/- 0.030 +/- 0.009 nb. The first error is the combined statistical and systematic uncertainty, and the second reflects the uncertainty in the luminosity. For the combined electron and muon analyses we find: [Sigma_W*B(W->l,nu)]/[Sigma_Z*B(Z->l,l)] = 10.90 +/- 0.49. Assuming Standard Model couplings, this result is used to determine the width of the W boson: Gamma(W) = 2.044 +/- 0.093 GeV.
The second DSYS error is due to luminosity.
We analyze a sample of W + jet events collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV to study ttbar production. We employ a simple kinematical variable "H", defined as the scalar sum of the transverse energies of the lepton, neutrino and jets. For events with a W boson and four or more jets, the shape of the "H" distribution deviates by 3.8 standard deviations from that expected from known backgrounds to ttbar production. However this distribution agrees well with a linear combination of background and ttbar events, the agreement being best for a top mass of 180 GeV/c^2.

We present results on the search for the top quark in pp¯ collisions at √s =1.8 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 13.5±1.6 pb−1. We have considered tt¯ production in the standard model using electron and muon dilepton decay channels (tt¯→eμ+jets, ee+jets, and μμ+jets) and single-lepton decay channels (tt¯→e+jets and μ+jets) with and without tagging of b quark jets. An analysis of these data optimized for top quark masses below 140 GeV/c2 gives a lower top quark mass limit of 128 GeV/c2. An analysis optimized for higher top quark masses yields 9 events with an expected background of 3.8±0.9. If we assume that the excess is due to tt¯ production, and assuming a top quark mass of 180 GeV/c2, we obtain a cross section of 8.2±5.1 pb.

We have calculated the double and triple differential cross sections for electron ejection with energy of 14.6 eV in single ionization of H2 by 75 keV proton impact. A molecular version of the continuum distorted wave-eikonal initial state approach is applied, where the interaction between the projectile and the residual molecular ion is considered more properly than in previous applications of the method. For triple differential cross sections, the present results are in better agreement with the experimental data than those of other descriptions when large momentum transfer values are considered. For double differential cross sections the experimental data are reproduced quite well for both coherent and incoherent proton beams.

Cross section times the branching ratio for decay into dimuons.
We report on a search for second generation leptoquarks with the D\O\ detector at the Fermilab Tevatron $p\overline{p}$ collider at $\sqrt{s}$ = 1.8 TeV. This search is based on 12.7 pb$~{-1}$ of data. Second generation leptoquarks are assumed to be produced in pairs and to decay into a muon and quark with branching ratio $\beta$ or to neutrino and quark with branching ratio $(1-\beta)$. We obtain cross section times branching ratio limits as a function of leptoquark mass and set a lower limit on the leptoquark mass of 111 GeV/c$~{2}$ for $\beta = 1 $ and 89 GeV/c$~{2}$ for $\beta = 0.5 $ at the 95\%\ confidence level.

The distribution of the transverse energy in jets has been measured in p p collisions at s =1.8 TeV TeV using the DØ detector at Fermilab. This measurement of the jet shape is made as a function of jet transverse energy in both the central and forward rapidity regions. Jets are shown to narrow both with increasing transverse energy and with increasing rapidity. Next-to-leading order partonic QCD calculations are compared to the data. Although the calculations qualitatively describe the data, they are shown to be very dependent on renormalization scale, parton clustering algorithm, and jet direction definition and they fail to describe the data in all regions consistently.

A search for a heavy charged gauge boson, W ′, using the decay channels W ′ → eν and W′ → τν → eνν ν is reported. The data used in the analysis were collected by the DØ experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron during the 1992-93 p p collider run from an integrated luminosity of 13.9 ± 0.8 pb −1 at s =1.8 TeV . Assuming that the neutrino from W ′ decay is stable and has a mass significantly less than m W ′ , an upper limit at the 95% confidence level is set on the cross section times branching ratio for p p → W′ → eν . A W ′ with the same couplings to quarks and leptons as the standard model W boson is excluded for m W ′ < 610 GeV/c 2 .

A study of the particle multiplicity between jets with large rapidity separation has been performed using the D\O\ detector at the Fermilab Tevatron $p\bar{p}$ Collider operating at $\sqrt{s}=1.8$\,TeV. A significant excess of low-multiplicity events is observed above the expectation for color-exchange processes. The measured fractional excess is $1.07 \pm 0.10({\rm stat})~{ + 0.25}_{- 0.13}({\rm syst})\%$, which is consistent with a strongly-interacting color-singlet (colorless) exchange process and cannot be explained by electroweak exchange alone. A lower limit of $0.80\%$ (95\% C.L.) is obtained on the fraction of dijet events with color-singlet exchange, independent of the rapidity gap survival probability.
'Opposite-side' jets with a large pseudorapidity separation. A cone algorithm with radius R = sqrt(d(etarap)**2+d(phi)**2)=0.7 is used for jet funding. Double negative binomial distribution (NBD) is used to parametrize the color-exchange component of the opposite-side multiplicity distribution betweeb jets. A result of extrapolation to the zero multiplicity point. Quoted systematic error is a result of combining in quadrature of the systematic errors described above.
The global topologies of inclusive three-- and four--jet events produced in $\pp$ interactions are described. The three-- and four--jet events are selected from data recorded by the D\O\ detector at the Tevatron Collider operating at a center--of--mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 1800$ GeV. The measured, normalized distributions of various topological variables are compared with parton--level predictions of tree--level QCD calculations. The parton--level QCD calculations are found to be in good agreement with the data. The studies also show that the topological distributions of the different subprocesses involving different numbers of quarks are very similar and reproduce the measured distributions well. The parton shower Monte Carlo generators provide a less satisfactory description of the topologies of the three-- and four--jet events.

We present a measurement of $\sigma \cdot B(W \rightarrow e \nu)$ and $\sigma \cdot B(Z~0 \rightarrow e~+e~-)$ in proton - antiproton collisions at $\sqrt{s} =1.8$ TeV using a significantly improved understanding of the integrated luminosity. The data represent an integrated luminosity of 19.7 pb$~{-1}$ from the 1992-1993 run with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). We find $\sigma \cdot B(W \rightarrow e \nu) = 2.49 \pm 0.12$nb and $\sigma \cdot B(Z~0 \rightarrow e~+e~-) = 0.231 \pm 0.012$nb.
First systematic error is due to detector effects, the second is due to uncertainty in the luminosity.
The inclusive jet differential cross section has been measured for jet transverse energies, $E_T$, from 15 to 440 GeV, in the pseudorapidity region 0.1$\leq | \eta| \leq $0.7. The results are based on 19.5 pb$~{-1}$ of data collected by the CDF collaboration at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The data are compared with QCD predictions for various sets of parton distribution functions. The cross section for jets with $E_T>200$\ GeV is significantly higher than current predictions based on O($\alpha_s~3$) perturbative QCD calculations. Various possible explanations for the high-$E_T$\ excess are discussed.

We have studied J ψ production in p p collisions at s = 1.8 TeV with the DØ detector at Fermilab using μ + μ − data. We have measured the inclusive J ψ production cross section as a function of J ψ transverse momentum, p T . For the kinematic range p T > 8 GeV/ c and |η| < 0.6 we obtain σ(p p → J ψ + X) · Br ( J ψ → μ + μ − ) = 2.08 ± 0.17( stat) ± 0.46(syst) nb. Using the muon impact parameter we have estimated the fraction of J ψ mesons coming from B meson decays to be f b = 0.35 ± 0.09(stat)±0.10(syst) and inferred the inclusive b production cross section. From the information on the event topology the fraction of nonisolated J ψ events has been measured to be f nonisol = 0.64 ± 0.08(stat)±0.06(syst). We have also obtained the fraction of J ψ events resulting from radiative decays of χ c states, f χ = 0.32 ± 0.07(stat)±0.07(syst). We discuss the implications of our measurements for charmonium production processes.

This study reports the first measurement of the azimuthal decorrelation between jets with pseudorapidity separation up to five units. The data were accumulated using the D\O\ detector during the 1992--1993 collider run of the Fermilab Tevatron at $\sqrt{s}=$ 1.8 TeV. These results are compared to next--to--leading order (NLO) QCD predictions and to two leading--log approximations (LLA) where the leading--log terms are resummed to all orders in $\alpha_{\scriptscriptstyle S}$. The final state jets as predicted by NLO QCD show less azimuthal decorrelation than the data. The parton showering LLA Monte Carlo {\small HERWIG} describes the data well; an analytical LLA prediction based on BFKL resummation shows more decorrelation than the data.
Distribution of the pseudorapidity interval of the two jets at the extremes of pseudorapidity. Data are read from the graph and the errors are statistical only.
Normalized distributions of the azimuthal angle difference of the two jets at the extremes of pseudorapidity in 3 pseudorapididity difference intervals. Data are read from the graph and the errors are statistical only.
The correlation between the PHI and ETARAP difference distributions as used in the analysis.Data are read from the graph and the errors include the statiucal and un-correlated systematic errors added in quadrature.
A measurement of the cross section for production of single, isolated photons is reported for transverse energies in the range of 10-125 GeV, for two regions of pseudorapidity, |\eta|<0.9 and 1.6<|\eta|<2.5. The data represent 12.9 pb-1 of integrated luminosity accumulated in p-pbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV and recorded with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider.

We present a study of events with Z bosons and hadronic jets produced in $\overline{p}p$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.8 TeV. The data consist of 6708 $Z \rightarrow e~+e~-$ decays from 106 pb$~{-1}$ of integrated luminosity collected using the CDF detector at the Tevatron Collider. The Z $+ \ge n$ jet cross sections and jet production properties have been measured for n = 1 to 4. The data compare well to predictions of leading order QCD matrix element calculations with added gluon radiation and simulated parton fragmentation.
The notation (N)JET(S) means greater than or equal to N jets. Cross sections include the branching ratio to E+ E-.

We present a measurement of the forward-backward charge asymmetry of the process pp¯→Z0/γ+X,Z0/γ→e+e− at Mee>MZ, using 110pb−1 of data at s=1.8TeV collected at the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The measured charge asymmetries are 0.43±0.10 in the invariant mass region Mee>105GeV/c2, and 0.070±0.016 in the region 75<Mee<105GeV/c2. These results are consistent with the standard model values of 0.528±0.009 and 0.052±0.002, respectively.
The forward-backward asymmetry resuts from angular differential cross section : D(SIG)/D(COS(THETA*) = A*(1 + COS(THETA*)**2) + B*COS(THETA*), where THETA * is the emission angle of the E- relative to the quark momentum in the rest frame of the E+ E- pair.
The properties of high-mass multijet events produced at the Fermilab proton-antiproton collider are compared with leading order QCD matrix element predictions, QCD parton shower Monte Carlo predictions, and the predictions from a model in which events are distributed uniformly over the available multibody phase-space. Multijet distributions corresponding to (4N-4) variables that span the N-body parameter space are found to be well described by the QCD calculations for inclusive three-jet, four-jet, and five-jet events. The agreement between data, QCD Matrix Element calculations, and QCD parton shower Monte Carlo predictions suggests that 2 -> 2 scattering plus gluon radiation provides a good first approximation to the full LO QCD matrix element for events with three, four, or even five jets in the final state.

We present results from a search for anomalous WW and WZ production in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. We used ppbar->evjjX events observed during the 1992-1993 run of the Fermilab Tevatron collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 13.7 +- 0.7 pb^-1. A fit to the transverse momentum spectrum of the W boson yields direct limits on the CP-conserving anomalous WWgamma and WWZ coupling parameters of -0.9 < delta kappa < 1.1 (with lambda = 0) and -0.6 < lambda < 0.7 (with delta kappa = 0) at the 95% confidence level, for a form factor scale Lambda = 1.5 TeV, assuming that the WWgamma and WWZ coupling parameters are equal.
CONST(NAME=SCALE) is the model parameter, used in the modification of the couplings as follows: g = g0/(1 + M(gamma Z)**2/CONT(NAME=SCALE)**2)**n.
We have measured the cross section of γ+D*± production in p¯p collisions at s=1.8TeV using the Collider Detector at Fermilab. In this kinematic region, the Compton scattering process (gc→γc) is expected to dominate and thus provide a direct link to the charm quark density in the proton. From the 45±18 γ+D*± candidates in a 16.4pb−1 data sample, we have determined the production cross section to be 0.38±0.15(stat)±0.11(syst) nb for the rapidity range |y(D*±)|<1.2 and |y(γ)|<0.9, and for the transverse momentum range pT(D*±)>6GeV/c and 16<pT(γ)<40GeV/c. The measured cross section is compared to a theoretical prediction.

We have searched for a heavy neutral gauge boson, Z ′, using the decay channel Z ′ → ee . The data were collected with the DØ detector at the Fermilab Tevatron during the 1992–1993 p p collider run at s =1.8 TeV from an integrated luminosity of 15±1 pb −1 . Limits are set on the cross section times brancing ratio for the process p p → Z′ → ee as a function of the Z ′ mass. We exclude the existence of a Z ′ of mass less than 490 GeV/c 2 , assuming a Z ′ with the same coupling strengths to quarks and leptons as the standard model Z boson.
